I have made, repaired and restored thousands of things over the years. When I was doing this CZcams didn't exist. A friend gave me a Go-Pro camera so I decided to video some of the old tools I have owned for years, as I restored them. I occasionally repair tools so I included those repairs and recently I decided to make some tools for fun and video the making process.

Nice repair. looks like they put a bit of thought in to the design and did not cut cost in production. Somewhere there is a WEEE bin dying of hunger. 🙂
Yes this Panasonic is really well made.
Good
Thank you.
superb video. I have a few of these screwdrivers that also have duff batteries. They are a superb screwdriver from memory. can i ask where you got the battery replacement or the voltage of the replacement battery? Many thank in advance
The battery is 18650 Li-Ion. 3.6v approx. I try to buy them from proper battery retailers on the web rather than Ebay because there are lots of fake batteries in circulation.
@@DaftOldMan many thanks
I found sowing machine oil is good for oilite bearings so give it a try, I used to repair hoover motors and Kenwood motors, and they have oilite bearings in them, nice job, I like the ring adapter good idea, what did you use I must convert mine, thanks Bob in the UK
I have an ancient tub of "thin machine oil" what ever that means. I tend to use that or 3 in 1. I like your sewing machine oil suggestion. I will try some. The ring adapter was an offcut of some thick walled pipe I think.
The leds on show an imbalance of the cell voltage, should have disappeared when charged.
Thank you
Hi do you know where i can find a replacement motor?
Measure the motor dimensions and look on ebay or ali express for 18v or 20v motor
@@DaftOldMan thanks mate
The weee bin must be crying out for food.😂😢
Recently I got plenty of projects that may end up in the bin.😁
I like your video old man.
Thank you.
May I ask why you used 6 volt charger here, even though the original charger voltage in the other videos for you was 11.5 volts?
No load output was 11.5v but actual charge voltage was 6v so a proper 6v charger is all you need.
Use silicone for your LED windows it work very well
Thank you. I will try that.
Great Vid, as cant see your charger would an Imax b6 charger be a good addition to your arsenal??
Thanks for commenting I have an Imax b6 but I rarely use it.
If you fancy selling one let me know, my workshop was broken into and my tools were stolen so now at 78, I am looking to replace some of the same Thanks, Bob in the UK
Sorry to hear that. You should find an email address on my home page. Contact me via that.
Debes agregar una placa bsm para prevenir daños en la batería y explosiones .
¿Viste el video? Tiene un BMS.
Thank you
Thanks for commenting.
Lol. But why.
Because I can. 😁
why didn't you use BMS? Using Li-Ion batteries without BMS is dangerous, isn't it?
The BMS is in the charger which is the next video. I do not use BMS for power output as I find they are not very good at managing high power output. I use BMS to charge the battery.
the two speed option could cause a problem with one battery becoming flat before the other and reverse charging it. Nice repair.
Yes the two different voltages seem an odd way to get two speeds. I guess the original NiCad batteries would not have cared about a bit of reverse charge. I don't suppose the Li-Ion cells will like it at all.😁
Where's the voice over gone ? Nice job.
No idea. I must have been having a bad day.😁
Great detailed and thorough fix! Only thing is the lowest speed became too slow. I believe the 2 screws holding the board control the lowest speed if you tighten or untighten them. I am not sure. I recently replaced the x2 capacitors because they were smoking and bulging and I believe I adjusted the lowest speed using these 2 screws. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for commenting.
Is it possible to produce 220v AC with this?
No I do not think this is possible
Another excellent video. I actually did the same thing you did with a Black and Decker driver. I made several mistakes before I finally got it to charge via USB. If I had seen this video prior to me starting to fix it, I would have avoided several of the mistakes I initially made. As always, thank you for the great videos.
Thank you for the kind words. I make plenty of mistakes too.😁
the dreaded blue tack! the leaver of oily deposits on your board. Nice mod you need a light pipe I wonder if you can make one out of hot snot.
I need to buy some perspex rod.
Great Job!🎉
Thank you. One year later and the hairdryer is still going good.
Nice conversion, I have a couple B&D and a couple Skill I will for sure be doing this upgrade. I noticed that you didn’t put the plastic spacer back in, is there a reason for that? Thanks for sharing, Wayne
I don't think you need the spacer but some hot melt glue might help hold everything tight.
my bosch screwdrives was bought for 8months, used within 10 times and happened like this video :(. I hope I can get your help too:((((
Good luck with repairs.
Did you ever manage to locate the gears ? I’ve got 3 chewed ones
I never did find the gears. They seem to be an odd size. I tried making some from nylon rod but it didn't work.
@@DaftOldMan I found some similar looking metal ones on eBay but not sure they’d fit (Chinese)
@@mcfcmanc Count teeth, outide diameter and inside tooth diameter must be exact match or they will not work. I hope you have found some.

I got 2 Bosch IXO and very happy with it. Both of the Bosch IXO motors do i have replaced with a Johnson HC383 motor. Mostly on Aliexpress sold as Dechang HC383 for arround 5 euro. But it's a lot more powerfull and a higher rpm. It works perfect and the battery delivers enough power. I recommend to give it a try.
Thank you. Than information is very helpfull
Hello I have a problem where the drill switch is very unresponsive. Model CDI 1800. When I press the switch down I get nothing but as I slowly release it, it works a bit. Sometimes full speed and sometimes half etc its very random. Also if I just press it lightly it may work but I doesn’t work when I press it all the way.. I took it apart and the contacts are clean. Battery is at full charge… sprayed some wd40 on the switch.. could it be the brushes or maybe a faulty switch? Should I follow these steps and take out the brushes to clean them? Also they dont look like the traditional brushes you can buy replacements for, are they?
Try some contact cleaner in the switch and on the motor brushes. That may help. Have a look here czcams.com/video/rYktODWoO08/video.html
@@DaftOldMan thank you for the quick reply! I will try that
shame no cogs.
I love using this. It makes me smile every time it starts to turn like magic.
Nice bit of cleaning
video for clean freaks.😁
Just got a a901 from a colleague. This video helped me to strip it back to clean some stubborn crumbs. It is filthy inside so im gonna deep clean it and re grease it when we get better weather. Would you suggest petroleum jelly on all moving parts?
Professionals use proper food safe grease but I think petroleum jelly is good enough as it is safe to eat if any gets in food. Car grease is not food safe.
I am lucky that I just retired from 48 years as a mechanic and the business that I worked at went out of business and told me to keep all the inventory. This includes a bunch of brand new alternators and some are huge. This will be fun to tinker with this summer 😊
Good luck in your retirement. Alternators are fun to play with but require more energy to turn than you would guess.
Yanlış bağlantı. Sağlam olsa 14 v sabit verurdi 3000 rpm
Well saved, that one could easily gone in to the WEEE bin, as it looked like it had been wee'ed on 🙂
luckily it was an easy fix.
El mas Completo video que he visto y necesitaba ver. Mas que nada porque un dia lo desarmé y lo dejé inacabado. Hoy me falta alguna pieza que ya he odido identificar . Gracias.
Buena suerte con tu reparación.
Nice job there! I found on 2 units that weren't charging that the 12 to 13 volts output were too high compared with my original unit. So I changed the capacitors and that seemed to work. It was to provide my Grandson, with a charger, who'd lost his unit in a house move. Unfortunately neither one was the right size across the pins. Cheers John.
Bosch were really silly with changing the width of the charge pins on different models. Thanks for commenting.
The outer pinsnon the direction switch are the mounthing of the outher case of the switch. Thats why there is contineuity on them. The mittle 3pins are the pins on the switch. Center in common en legt and rigt ar the switch sides
Thank you for commenting.
Hello. Are you planning to open a screwdriver shack? It is funny that it takes a Ryobi screwdriver to open up and close a Bosch screwdriver lol
Ha Ha. I repair screwdrivers because they are usually cheap to buy. The videos cost me money to make so the cheaper the repair, the less I loose.
@@DaftOldMan 😀You will have a supply of screwdrivers for years to come. It is a shame, in my view, that the gears are made of plastic.
That was a nice clean example. Another great fix.
I promise that is the last Ixo screwdriver video ever.😁. But I have got two Ixo charger videos.

Спасибо за комментарий. Я считаю, что вы правы.
Were the charging units ok? I've got one giving 12.5 volts output and the machine refuses to charge...should be about 7-8 volts... Inside the secondary of the transformer gives 8.5 v ac before the rectifier block but arrives at the output pins at 13 vots.. too much so the gun won't accept a charge.. any ideas?
Two chargers just needed cleaning but one needed repair. Video in a few weeks. Your voltages sound correct. I have tested three chargers and they all put out about 12v unloaded. The screwdriver circuit board must bring this down to about 4 volts to charge the Li-Ion battery.
Have a look at the IXO range of accessories and you'll understand what the rubber 'thing' is for …
Thanks for commenting. I will have a look.

@@V3T9 Wow. I had no idea. Thank you for informing us.
Do i take it that the first plastic cogs are turning faster and with less torque through them than the metal cogs in the later stage of the gear reduction train. Will we soon be seeing the history of Bosch Ixo screwdrivers, to see how they have changed over time would be quite interesting.
I wonder if plastic gears are for quiet running. A history of bosch ixo's....I think my videos are boring enough already.😁
I guess this is the 4th generation of the IXO. Version 3 also has the insulator on the battery. But in this version the direction switch is definitely different than the older IXOs.
I have no idea which is which. I have eight of them and 4 chargers and still do not have the correct chargers for some of them. Bosch loved changing things.
this is a generation 1 or 2 IXO
this is an IXO 2nd generation. It already has the LED but not yet the catch for the attachments. This only existed from generation 3rd onwards. Generation 4th then has a USB charger.
Thank you for the information.
