    ***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
    Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
    We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

      I concur on the apple cider & kombucha "oops" vinegar rinse! I have long thick naturally curly hair and super hard water. I didn't believe the detangle claims made about it on another site & had to try it for myself boy was I pleasantly surprised and my hair is so bright & shiny since I've switched. Am still trying shampoo alternatives too.

      You can make your own scooby using unflavored raw kombucha from the grocery store, add that to black tea and sugar, date the container and let it sit in the pantry, It will happen I’ve made it.

    Second ferment is super easy without buying juice!! Use a couple pint jars with lids, mushed up a few berries from ur raspberry/blackberry brambles (if u freeze berries let them thaw a bit) add the kombucha to the jars and close the lids tight for 2-3 days... you will have a super carbonated sweet 2nd ferment kombucha drink!! For all the city folk out there reading this... fresh or frozen fruit works great!!

    • @coloradokid8321
      @coloradokid8321 Před 2 lety +4

      @@ameliakat9982 - No, you do the second ferment at the same room temperature. HOWEVER, you need to use special heavy duty bottles (like the ones with a spring top that you use for bottling beer). Or you can reuse store bought Kombucha bottles and lids that you buy at the store (like GT’s). The point is you need bottles that won’t burst during the carbonation process! If you let ferment longer than a couple days, then you should “burp” the bottles very carefully every 24 hours after the first couple days. Then you want to refrigerate (as the cold temperature will reduce the Carbon Dioxide pressure before opening). It’s always good to open your bottles over a bowl or sink (in case the CO2 goes crazy).

    I've been making Komucha for about 30 years. I do it all very similarly to Sarah. I do have a tip, thought. When your water is hot in the sauce pan, brew your tea there and you can add the sugar at the same time. Next, fill your jar about 1/2 to 2/3 full with your cool water, add the hot sweet tea, starter kombucha liquid then skoby. So, what's the difference, where's the tip? you might ask. Well, doing it Sarah's order of operation (with hot water going into jar first) I have cracked several jars. Also, I have found that my kombucha seems to be more clear, doesn't get cloudy.

We were stationed in Hawaii for 6 years and as a hairdresser, I worked on beautiful long hair. Many times I was given a small bottle container filled with this ginger, to use as shampoo. Just look it up and you will get all the info you need to make your own shampoo using the Pine Cone Ginger plant. Love what you share!!!! Many Blessings!

    Great video, I have been drinking about an ounce of kombucha every morning for 6 years. I make it in a half gallon jar now and that way I don't have too much. I do asecond ferment with berries from my garden or in winter I use elderberry juice that I also grow and juice. I started to make it totally with green tea and love the flavor. I also think that it's bringing back the color in my hair.

    Safety tip: generally you shouldn't add boiling water to a glass container unless you know it to be made of borosilicate glass (e.g., Pyrex). The glass can unexpectedly shatter due to the thermal shock. You would be better off brewing the tea in the pot, filling the container with the filtered water, then adding the tea to the water.

    Perhaps you can stretch your kombucha vinegar, when washing your hair, if you put it in a squirt bottle, apply it to the scalp, massage it into your scalp, and using your hands or your comb/brush to distribute the kombucha vinegar to the rest of the hair...my little suggestion.

I'm not a homesteader but trying to find a little patch of country and searching for better or easier ways along with new possibilities. I tried to garden here but in town instead of worrying about keeping the deer out, it's people. My plan is to start with chickens after garden is going. Later on maybe moving into the possibly rsising goats and rabbits. Not sure I'll go past that. Of course all my choices will mainly depend upon the property I get. Could use some prayers that God would put the perfect piece of property in my hands. Thanks!

    I've found that a kombucha scoby is a very forgiving thing :) Had a batch in the back of the pantry that had been neglected for at least a year (probably more) and decided to see if I could get it going again. It's now humming happily along again, just as if nothing had happened. :) I do a second ferment and like to use fruit to flavor it - we had a bumper crop of plums this year and I'm still using it in the kombucha. Ginger makes a delicious flavoring too and has benefits of its own. Must also admit I buy blueberry syrup from the store and use a couple of spoonfuls of that in some bottles. Yummy! Unfortunately I have no chickens (hubby is not keen on the idea), so when I have a spent scoby it goes into the compost.

    We are having Summer now and it's a good season for cold fizzy, healthful drinks.

    you can use the K. vinegar for flavoring foods or salads. and I take the old Scoby's and a little water in my vitamin and put around my tomato plants they thrive on it. Blessings Herby
