- How to make Kombucha Fermented Tea. I've been making this probiotic rich beverage for some time now. After teaching how to make this to a small class of people in my kitchen I decided to do this video to help a broader audience. I know there are many people who have great videos about how to do this. My video is about my process that I've come up with to keep a constant supply of this amazing healthy drink in stock.
Some people ask me where to buy the 1 gallon glass jars. I got mine second hand, so I can't say where to buy them other than an online supplier like Amazon. amzn.to/3YL5WPH

best Kombucha video on CZcams
I really appreciate that!
Rawsan Mati... agreed!
Rawsan Mati I was about to say the same myself
Rawsan Mati absolutely. I can't find a better one
So do I! In fact, the whole house seems pretty neat! I already asked him for it, so get in line, ok? My kitchen is too small to even swing a kitten in... but heck, I do stuff in it anyway!! Great video!
This should be the first Kombucha video every person should see when they are learning to make Kombucha
suffolkshepherd this is actually my first Kombucha video!! Off to a good start :).
Thank you for that kind comment! Check out my channel now. There are a couple of kombucha videos all shot from slightly different perspectives that might help answer questions. Search for "Daddykirbs Kombucha" you should find them. One of them is brand new... will go public in 26 minutes (from the time of this reply). Happy New Year!
First batch learning mistakes:
1st fermentation 10 days (not enough) it is too cold in our house and scoby likes it when hotter.
2e fermentation, poured 1/3 cup of juice in 500ml bottle (was too much juice) let it sit for 4 days and didn’t screw the lid tight enough so there is not much sparkling in bottles.
Result, kombucha is sweet but very good and we see small scoby’s on top every bottles !
Next will be 1/8 cup juice in 500ml bottle :). Can’t wait to try, we are day 9 of 1st fermentation today :).
It’s my first video 🥰
What’s the mango juice brand you use it
bruh this is the video that gave me all the know how to start my home boochin. 4 years later and ur still making an impact.
Omg dude, I’ve seen a lot of videos on making kombucha but your’s has been the most straight to the point while still addressing the little in-depth process in between that I wish I had known weeks in advance.
It’s rare that I comment on videos, and that doesn’t mean my opinion is special or anything but this definitely gets a thumbs up from me. 😎
I watched 3 or 4 well-established fermenters make kombucha & they all cautioned against using metal utensils with Kombucha...especially not metal strainers, as Kombucha will leach the metal and it ends up in your body.
RIGHT??? He is a great teacher. Doesn’t ramble on and on! Loved it!
@@majaber1 that’s if u KEEP your kombutcha in metal dish. If u just strain it through metal strainer nothing will happen - it is too fast to react
@@bambinaforever1402 what about those jars with a métal tap to serve? Is it a big deal?
Those are made of stainless steel! @@nannebee5384
I've been making kombucha for years. I haven't been sick in years. When my scobies get too big I cut them up into worm sized pieces, the chickens love them.
PS I use organic green tea.
I use organic green tea as well and mix and some honey. Jun Kombucha. My second batch generally gets a little scoby as well. I don't mind drinking it but my friends are a little freaked out. Curious to know what flavours you make
@@ralsharp6013 I grow my own ginger root. Turmeric too.
@@nancyfahey7518 oh crikey, I just had an eyegasm when I read that!! 🤣😂💦
I've tried to grow ginger but it tends to rot..😭😭
Would really love to grow some turmeric.. what do you make out of your produce? I'm salivating in anticipation 🤣🌿
I can grow plump garlic (have u tried fermenting garlic in honey? Yummo) but not so good at the rooted veggies..
I bet your chooks love the scoby worms
anyone else jealous of his farmhouse sink?
It's a very nice sink :)
They r good a practical due to water splashes. The modern kitchens are mostly a joke.

Yes Me! 😅😅😅
This is the best how to make . The guy gets right to the point , so many others TALK WAY TO MUCH , short and simple ! ! ! !
I was amazed to find, finally, a person who knows what they are talking about. Yes, in years of Kombucha culturing and learning to improve its flavour to make it drinkable for everyone, I realised you are the master my friend. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience for all of us aamateurs🙏💐
I have watched a lot of kombutcha videos for months and been confused and hesitant to start but this video is the best one I have seen. Very nice and good explanation. Best kombutcha video I have seen. Thank you!
I love how he went through the process. It does seem way simpler than how it comes off on the net.
I suggest buying a kit on Amazon for like $30 if you’ve never made it before, because the process is so dang simple and you have everything you need. But sourcing all your stuff separately is fine too. The first time I made it I was so terrified of infecting my batch. Now? Lol I just yank scobys out of jars and always brew five gallons at one time. It’s not nearly as scary as it can seem. Within a month of making my first gallon I’d upscale to two. Then three. Then four. Now five. 😂
This was THE BEST video so far about Kombucha I’ve watched. I watched (quite awhile ago) your apple cider vinegar video but stupidly didn’t know about the subscribe button. I hit it today! You explain things a lot better for me than others, your not cocky (like “look at me I know it all) and just an average person and I enjoy that. Thank you VERY much!!
I love how straight to the point this video is 💜
This is the best explanation ever on the subject. Thank you for all the care in all the process. Sharing is sacred.
Thank you. I'm glad you got something out of it :)
I agree. Great job. Very clear and understandable.

wow, covered everything I wanted to know. Excited to try me own!
How did it go?
@GalaxyDreaming I just uploaded another video with some of the same information but from a different perspective. It may be enough to help you feel more confident in the process. That video will go public in about 28 minutes (from the time of this reply).
I recently started brewing my own as well it has come out fabulous, I actually grew my own SCOBY from scratch I let it go for about 6 weeks and bam SCOBY I am currently on my 3rd batch I now have my BF hooked on it... the vid I watched said blue berries don’t work well of course I saw this after I had already started a second ferment with you guessed it blueberries I had some frozen ones I just put them in the ninja with a little kombucha and blended them and added about 2 inches of the mixture to the jar and topped it off with the brew it came out as one of my favorite flavors!! I also did Raspberry and now just started 10 bottles of Guava that was my Fav GT flavor... good luck it’s really rather easy I just received the flip top bottles I ordered from Amazon and they are great I just started a new batch lol
Man, you're a damn good presenter! Absolutely concise and informative. Thank you for this presentation.
Hi! I’ve been using your Kombucha recipe for a couple of months now. Just wanted to let you know it works out every time. Today I just set up a Kombucha “on tap” 11L (3gallon) jar, with a spigot. We’ll see how it works to keep the fridge stalked. But just wanted to let you know that your video worked great for me, an amateur....Thanks!
Great video!!! I followed your instructions and the kombucha came out great. Working on the next batch now. No more buying kombucha at the grocery store for $3-$4 a bottle. Thank you.
Here's to saving money, and to great health!
I agree with the rest of your viewers. Excellent video! And yes the best instructional on Kombucha on the internet. you cover all the bases, rush the boring parts, and talk plainly, friendly, and straight across like we're equals. Thank you.
I love how you were detailed without overwhelming me with info. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I cannot wait to make my own kombatch! We eat fermented foods at our house almost everyday. But this will be our first drink form. Thanks again!
I'm so glad you found this video helpful! There are some more Kombucha related videos in the works. Subscribe and share with friends and family :)
Hands down the best kombucha video I've seen. Thanks a lot man. I understand a lot better now. My first batch was a disaster. I feel confident that the next one will be way better, thanks to you.
Finally! Someone that gives clear instruction and gets straight to the point new subby right here
Great instruction!...I would add that I burp mine twice a day while in the second ferment. keeps the lid from popping or being too tight.
I might be biased because this is the first DIY Kombucha video I've watched on CZcams, but I don't think there could be a better explanation than this! I can't wait to buy my scoby and get going on my first batch. Thank you for the wonderful video!
Thank You, I have completed my first batch making my scoby from scratch and it is delicious. I added tart cherry juice for the 2nd stage and I am looking forward to a summer of tea!
You make the process so clear, professional.
Such a clear and easy tutorial, good job. Loved it !
Thank you, I can’t wait to get started. Your video was the best explained I’ve seen. 🙏🏻
amazing step by step. No douchbagging around like many other videos I have seen.
This is probably the best kombucha video i’ve ever watch on CZcams. Very informative. Thank you so much.
Excellent Video!!! Perfect amount of information, to the point, Loved it!!!
Talk about attention to detail...you nailed it! I have watched others but truly yours encapsulates it all. Thank you!!!😊

Good tip on oils in flavoured teas. Haven't tried making it yet. Thank you thank you for the video!
So excited.... just made my first batch, now going to do 2nd fermentation with pomegranate juice.... Thanks again for explaining everything so well!!
One of the best videos on making kombucha I've found, thanks!
This is perfect. Really good watch. You say the right thing at the right time. You get to the point, leaving no doubt or confusion. Easy to follow, no questions left in my mind. Perfect! Thank you.
I really like this video over all the other kombucha videos! It's well done, very instructional, and relatable! Nice work
+Owen Marcovitz that was a huge compliment, thanks :)
Blake Kirby no problem! Me and my mom are planning on starting kombucha soon. We found this dude selling 8x8'' scobys for 10$ each. Anyway a question I have: how did you get started on this lifestyle? It's such an interesting way of living and I would love to know how you got to this point
Owen Marcovitz One thing leads to another. The more you become aware of how broken our current culture and system is, the more you start looking for alternatives. It all started with a few tomato plants and a small Aquaponics experiment in the backyard of a suburban home...
Blake Kirby we finally got a scoby from a friend who knew I wanted to start doing this for Christmas! I decided I would come back to this video for the 5th time to review my methods. I think I'm set!
Owen Marcovitz You can do it. Always understand that the SCOBY is alive and has needs. Supply the needs and you will be rewarded. Happy New Year buddy!
Gosh I love these instructional videos!
I'm glad you like them. :)
Thank you for taking the time!
Great simple straight forward video the explains the process very well. Thank you
"combucha needs sugar and some time alone - just like some people that I know" :D nice video, great effort,I like ;)

Great complete video. Feeling more confident about my next steps :) thank you!
Best kombucha video I have come across on here by far!
Thank you :)
Not sure how I missed this one. Thanks Blake. Was thinking of buying a bottle to start off a batch from scratch after speaking to a mate the other day about it.
Cheers sir.
+Rob Bob's Backyard Farming & Aquaponics glad I can help. Let me know if you have any questions. Perhaps we can have a Patreon thread of discussion about it :)
I brewed two jar at the same time and one is more sour than other is that because of something happened to my scoby you?
This was great explanation about the process. Thanks.
Really really great video! Engaging and educational.I especially like your comments on the process being right for your family and expressing that everyone should find their own sweet spots.
Mango kombucha!!!! WOW!!!! Sounds amazing!!! This was an excellent video! I haven't made kombucha for a while. Can't wait to share this on my fb page!
It's a wonderful flavor for this beverage. I look forward to hearing if you like it or not :)
Road to the Farm I tried this and mine turned into alcohol. i don't know what % alcohol it was, but 2 jars got me drunk. It was good tho.
awesome video as always, thanks for the great information!
You are very welcome. I'm glad you liked it.
I'm looking forward to use your steps for my first time. Thanks for sharing
very detailed presentation, thank you.
I agree, Well done!
Blessings! Thank you so much! I love how thoroughly you explain everything! Can a scoby be mailed, what would it take to get a scoby from you, they look better than all the others I’ve been shopping for
For me too 😊
After watching a lot of videos and reading various sites, THIS VIDEO actually taught me the process and gave me the confidence to move forward. Thanks so much!
Watched many videos on how to get started, but this boosted my confidence in starting the ferment myself very simple guide, great video.
I agree with the other viewers, best kombucha explanation!!! Thank you!
Thank you :)
"Sugar and time alone, sounds like some people I know." hahaha :'D That made me laugh.
you know it's true ;)
EXCELLENT explanation video of the entire process!
Thank you very much
Straight to the point and very informative, thank you!
That was fantastic thank you. Myself n scoby are best friends now and are ready to get going into bigger jars. Can't believe you can eat it. Was afraid of this slimey culture then after your vid I tried some. Unreal delish yumish. Agree with post below this is the 1st vid to watch if you want to know all there is from scoby to kompucha
Your SCOBY needs sugar and some time alone! That's funny, Son!
Reminds me of me 🤣
Thanks so much! Great info & easy to follow
Great work! I am really loving this.
This video is EXCELLENT. The only thing you didn't say was how many tea bags were in your tea concentrate on the stove. God bless!
That's not an answer that can be set. It really does depend on the brand / size of the tea bags used. Thank you for stopping by!
@@daddykirbs I had the exact same question and your reply isn't very helpful. Can you maybe suggest a brand and size? Anything to point us in the right direction?
Your video is great but without some guidance on the tea, it isn't real useful IMO.
Such a great video, I also love the Naked mango drink for the Kombucha! I have to say another way to grow a scoby which I have done was to buy a bottle of Kombucha. I used GT's Origninal Kombucha. I assume this works best with any non flavored kombucha. I poured the bottle in the mason jar, put a small rag on top of it with a rubber band. Let it sit for 4 - 5 weeks and I'm good to go with a new Scoby!.
That'll work :)
I did the same thing with a flavored one cuz I couldn't find the Raw and it worked I've got a scoby don't ask me how but I have one
Hi Christian Sanchez, first happy 2019, quick question, did u pour in or blend in black tea into the non flavored kombucha to grow a scoby ? or just plain non flavored kombucha alone in the mason jar without adding any black tea? thanks
Thank you for making it clear to make kombucha! The best so far!
Perfectly explained , I saw a few of videos but this one is the best of all. Thank you.
If you have not tried pure pineapple juice to flavor your kombucha, give it a try, it's my favorite. Loved your video, very well done.
I will have to try that!
Excellent video brother, thank you for making it. I already make water and coconut milk Kefir, i need to start making Kombucha too, it's the last of the top 3 super probiotics i want to try. I also love home made apple cider vinegar that my father is making. Fermented foods ftw!
FTW for sure! A little something fermented everyday for super improved health :)
Exactly! Although "little of something" doesn't apply for me when it comes to fermented foods :D
Hey! I got my scoby and kumbucha starter a week ago and i would like to ask you for some help. I searched everything i could find online, studied how it's made, got myself all ingreedients (scoby, kombucha starter, organic black tea, a big mason jar and unrefined cane sugar) and i strictly followed every tip i could find. My scoby sank imidiatelly and it doesn't seem to do anything, there are no bubbles and from the looks itself could be dead? I'm already making water and milk kefir for quite some time now and i'm doing quite well to keep little budies happy and healthy, so idk what i'm doing wrong with Kombucha... Here are some pictures if you can tell me something more. I would surely
be grateful for it! :)

how did u go with the scoby?did it grow?
how long had u cultured the kombucha for ehen u took pics?my first scoby took ages cos I used a bottle of store kombucha to start my first.i just bought a dry scoby from culturesforhealth so I hope it works as it seems dead too.
Finally a great kombucha instructional video! Straight to the point, easy explanation and measurements. Thank you kind sir!
Thank you so much for your amazing video. It really helps to better understand how and what to do.
Probably one of the best kombucha videos I've watched. Thank you!! I've seen people add vinegar to their kombucha starts if they don't have enough leftover starter kombucha. What do you think about this?
I've heard of that too, but have never tried it.
ACV is a different bacteria, are you making vinegar or kumbucha.
DWV is basically dead and at best will lower the PH slightly which might help prevent the wrong bacteria.
My thought, if you don't have enough starter, then make a smaller batch.
Really enjoyed this video. Very informative. Thanks!
1 question - does the second fermentation process change the probiotics/health benefits/alcohol level? Or is it solely for taste?
Taylor Roth it doesn’t impact anything negatively but 2nd ferment is for you to choose your flavor and it also eats up more sugar by the fruit or juice you use. If you only ferment once(in your gallon) then it has no flavor and is less carbonated
That was really fun to watch! Thank you!!
Great instructions! Thank you!
It is my first time making kombucha and I am just about to start my second fermentation in a day or two. I am not quite sure what to do once it is carbonated enough to store in the fridge. Do I just put it directly into the fridge from the pantry? Or do I have to open it then close before I put it into the fridge? Or open it, strain it and re-bottle it? I want to keep the carbonation, but I have never really been clear on this from all of the tutorials and videos I have been watching/reading. I always assumed you would just put it directly into the fridge after, but some other tutorials have confused me.
BTW this is by far the best and most informative video I have watched! It made me confident enough to finally make my own.
Just move it from the pantry to the fridge :) You can loosen the lid for a second if you are worried about pressure build up. That won't eliminate all the carbonation in the beverage.
"Sugar and time alone." Ha ha!! Loved it, great video, thank you.
Haha, thanks :)
Yup
Great video! I’ve been watching kombucha videos all day trying to make sure I understand the process. This video took care of all of the questions I still had! Thank you so much!
So glad it helped!
Best explanation I've found yet. Thank you so much!
Have you had any problems using the metal caps on your bottles on the second fermentation?
These are plastic mostly. The ones that come off the recycled tea bottles are plastic lined metal. So far I haven't noticed any problems.
Thank you so much this was very helpful. The only thing I'm confused about is..... when I have my scoby and some starter tea to keep it happy. What if I am not looking to make another batch for a while. Do I just leave it alone somewhere, or get rid of it?Thank you x;)
The SCOBY will sit happy in some black tea in the pantry for much longer than you might suspect.
thank u x
Blake Kirby I can keep it only in some black tea with no sugar? Or like a normal fermentation process?
Love you. Love your video. Thanks for the excellent advice. You did indeed cover everything. THANK YOU!
Very good . Disperses information clearly and succinctly. I might even make it myself. Thanks
