Wario swore off women after one of the Wario Land 4 bad endings, truly a sigma male grindset moment.
It doesn't even have to be a bad ending, the "quality" of the queen's form (forgive me, WL4 fans, but I simply forgot her name...) is dependant on how many treasure chests you've collected, so by getting 10 chests for example and getting a kiss on the cheek from her princess form (which is honestly cuter than adult form), Wario truly realizes that it's all about the treasure, the rest will come by itself.

To me, this is always the canonical Wario. I know there have been instances where Wario's acted a bit lusty for women in the past, but as far a I'm concerned, he doesn't care about being a hero or getting the girl. He's only it in for the MONEY!!!

I mean, let's be honest, it's a really human and based decision. This is why Wario's such an underrated character. Somehow, he's always a mood. Personally, I miss the raunchy surrealism of Wario game's plot and sense of humor.
Kind of puts the ending of Maniac Mansion into perspective where Dr. Fred asks if there's anything he can do to repay the heroes and they say, 'Cash would be nice'.

As much as I love these cinematics, Wario is a bit too stiff in them, compared to the utter insanity he exuded in Wario Land games, and even WarioWare. I guarantee the animators had to keep him extremely on-model, considering they were dealing with the "Bowser doesn't hold a cup that way" Nintendo.
It's not too bad to have some rulesets about a character or series (like the Simpsons to keep things consistent) because it could end up with a Steven Universe situation where you could see aberrations or really inconsistent characters.
But I agree, making him a bit less like a Whomp would've been better.
Treasure managed to make him feel cartoony in a good way and that was in 3D.
So I know I made the Sir Galahad joke here, but I have to tell you something. Yes, she's kind of bad, but it's an endless bag of money! It's basically Bucknard's Everfull Purse, but you don't have to wait for it to refill. There's only one in the universe and/or multiverse, and that's all there ever will be. He pretty much HAS to choose it.
