- Best of Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur is an amazing collection of Hindusthani Classical Songs. He is known as Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur. Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur sang for more than sixty years. He did a private concert in Delhi just five or six months ago before his death. On that occasion he apologized to the audience for not being able to sing for even two hours.
Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur was born on 1st January, 1911, in a village five km. west of Dharwad, Karnataka. His father, Bheemaraayappa Mansur was the village headman and a farmer by occupation and a patron of music. Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur had four brothers and three sisters. His elder brother Baswaraj owned a theatre troupe, and thus at age nine Mansur did a small role in a play. Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur did not possess a royal bearing. He did not attire himself in princely fine clothes. He did not care to be the centre of attraction. He was content to be inconspicuous. He continued to look like a shopkeeper's accountant. He did not speak like an oracle. He rarely referred to his triumphs. He won not only the respect but the affection of his contemporaries. He had an unfailing geniality and lightness of heart. Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur was well known for his command over a large number of rare ragas such as Raag - Deshkar Khaya, Raag - Yaman Kalyan, Khat etc, as well as his constant, mercurial improvisations in both melody and metre without ever losing the emotional content of the song.
This compilation has two beautiful renditions of Raga Deshkar Khaya and Raga Yaman Kalyan by the maestro. This one is a rare jewel worthy of a true Hindusthani Classical Music lover.

He was past seventy when this LP record was released in 1980-81. We were amazed at hearing an old singer sing like a young man of twenty-five. This was something unprecedented: a real triumph of the spirit over the body!
Heavenly voice. Whoever gives thumbs down, no idea why someone would do it
Have lost count of the number of times I have listened to this. I love the sangat by his son, Rajasekhar Mansur which makes this one of the sweetest things to listen to.
Felt like I remembered a love from a previous lifetime... Magnificent...
Panditji is a divine singer. Such a clarity in singing and rendition

I am from Goa.... I don't understand anything at all about Indian classical music. But I love this rendition... Both ragas.
अप्रतिम देशकार
I am in tears whenever I listen him. Divinely.
WONDERFUL RENDITION . PANDITJI IS GREAT EXPONENT OF GWALIOR AND JAIPUR ATRAULI GHARANA
A spiritually moving experience. He just carries you along,, like across gentle continuous waves, to another world....

Completely mesmerizing .. I’m looking for the lyrics... thanks in advance. Thanks a lot for posting this.
Hello, could you please give us the thema, and some words, even a few ones ?
Jérôme Nemo I think the lyrics in Hindi go “hun to tore karan jaggi” meaning You are the reason I woke up. I’m guessing it is a love song
Swarganga.org/bandish_details.php?id=53
"Hun tou teray kaaran jaagi"...i keep await because of you (the beloved yearning and remembrance)...jaagi can be translated as the lady waking up but in my opinion its her inability to sleep
I just added the lyrics above and saw your comment. Here:
