I'll agree to disagree but still, can appreciate your opinion. I don't think he (or they) holds a candle to the beauty of Simon and Garfunkel's version, and I guess that means a LOT of people will be coming after me pretty soon. Kind of feels though, like I just stuck my hand in a hornets' nest. However, what I see in the comments (here) is a WAVE of people who must have heard this version first, which I think explains why they like this one so much over the original.

@@SAGE_Dust Well, I did sit and listen, and I guess this man and group are just not my cup of tea. I really don't like this version or this singer's voice, and I don't think he conveys the thought feeling, emotions or provoking delivery that S&G did.
Now, I have to say, I am not as fond of the "acoustic only" or "in the park" versions of the S&G version as I am of the remixed one from the 2nd album (with the amped guitar and drums), but I think all 3 version are better than this one. Not many people realized he had such a beautiful voice until this song...when you could actually hear his voice...lol...as most of their songs are so aggressive. Draiman...one of the best male vocalists on the planet. When he sings....you know who it is. He can go from angelic head voice to rasp/distortion on a dime and back....not easy to do. Also did you notice he can put vibrato on the rasp too? VERY difficult to do. You both had a great take on it.

I wish I could have shared this with my dad. The night before the Vietnam War draft, he told me about going to a midnight meeting at the church at the center of his college campus. All the lights were turned off except the candles, they played this song on the pipe organ, and everyone sang since it was new enough to still be on pop charts. So many more than "10,000 people" went down into silence in the next few years, after that night, and this is the best musical approximation I've heard of the rage we should still feel about that.
I'm glad you get to share this across generations. You're very lucky.

The first time I listened to this version, the sheer intensity and amazing vocal prowess of David Draiman’s interpretation of Paul Simon’s lyrics brought tears to my eyes as well, young lady.
For an extremely emotional experience, you should react to Eva Cassidy’s live acoustic versions of Over The Rainbow, the Judy Garland classic from The Wizard of Oz and her cover from the same evening of Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time. It’s just her playing her acoustic guitar (which she does exquisitely) and singing in one of the most angelic voices ever. Over The Rainbow left this old biker/truck driver with tears streaming down his face. So beautiful!

Paul Simon himself posted about how much he loved this version. I prefer the Conan O'Brian show live performance to this official video. David Draiman was sick with a bad cold and still sounded amazing.

Supposedly Draiman went on Conan to prove that he could sing this without autotune, because some people accused him of not actually hitting the notes and tones naturally, so he wanted to do it live as prove. Unfortunately, he was sick that day also, so the person controlling the audio for the show did lay on a little autotune to clean it up, to the annoyance of Draiman

Visceral, isn't it? The instrumentals (that drum), the video (brilliant) and that voice! Well, I was kind of wedded to the original .... until I heard this and it's a performance that cannot be ignored. Gets you at all levels. David's delivery of the message was superb.

Disturbed has really pulled this off and turned this song into their own. Even Paul Simon said he was impressed with it and even put it up on his social media and contacted them to give high praise.
If you want to hear another decent cover by Disturbed, first listen to Land Of Confusion by Genesis before listening to their version.

I see Simon & Garfunkel as knocking on the door, asking you too pay attention to where we are heading, and David kicks the door in and demands that you see that we've arrived! We NEED this song, this version ... and yet, as moving as it is ... we won't pay attention again, because we just are not bright enough to see past our nose. We are ridiculously self-absorbed and buried in our individual pleasures and worries rather than our collective ones.

I liked what your Mom said at the end. To me the end of the song showed hope. Hope that the people can finally see what is going on and the mess they allowed to happen can be fixed. Great reaction! This is one of my favorite songs. I too didn't hear it until earlier this year, but I'm so glad I did.
