When this opened in November 1989, it truly was a big deal and started the Vegas building boom of the 90's. A lot of naysayers in the beginning said Wynn was finished, it would never work and he took on too much debt and not enough time to pay it off either. The Mirage proved them all wrong and while other resorts since have eclipsed the Mirage in size, newer design, and technology, it still is a impressive resort and my favorite to stay at. Say what you want about Steve Wynn, he knows how to build a unique and beautiful resort and Vegas wouldn't be the same without him.
Such a well-crafted comment. Steve Wynn is the Midas of Las Vegas.
I agree!!!
Yep, and then he did it again with Treasure Island. I stayed there after the first few months TI was opened! It was the place to be. I hate to see both of them in the shape they’re in 30+ years later. 👍🏻👍🏻
Agreed. I saw him when I was 14 giving an art tour at the Bellagio he was charismatic the room hung on his every word he was a passionate visionary for sure
Mirage is my favorite hotel but use to be so much better back when Steve Wynn owned it! MGM detheming that property was simply stupid. Also, the volcano use to have simulated lava near the cascades of the fountain which simulated lava flow, the fish tank use to have sharks, and they had white tigers on display in this awesome large enclosure that is now a restaurant. Best part was if you go where the sports book bar is they kept the tiki hit motif (last I was there 3 years ago). That motif of tiki huts populated the entire casino. Going to be there soon. Can't wait!
This is really interesting information. I had no idea that MGM diluted the mirage's features. Sounds like this hotel was a show-stopper back in the day.
@@Coolist it was the best. It is the basis for modern Las Vegas. Was the first hotel opened on the strip in 20 years. Check out the old pictures of the front - the entryway from the strip use to have beautiful stonework. MGM removed it and it now looks cheap. Also, the strip entry way use to have moving walkways and the water use to be adjacent to them for the duration of the moving walkway. MGM removed the moving entryways to save cost and replaced the water with fake grass. Think of what Harrahs did to the front of Paris. Those planters use to be fountains and people use to stope and take pictures in front of them. Harrahs (now Caesars) and MGM do everything to cut every expense. They don't care about design - it's all about the bottom line. My opinion - All MGM should have had to do to the original Mirage was replace carpet, paint and and keep the motif the same. That property was perfectly decorated!
I'm so happy I stumbled upon your channel! You've quickly converted me into a fan. I booked my trip for Thanksgiving and I was struggling with going back to Aria or trying something new (I'm an MGM guy myself). This video convinced me to try out the Mirage. I opted for the Mirage Suite because I just don't need the space of the Tower Suite.
I'm staying there Oct 10 can't wait. I upgraded to that room last time.. it was 120 more for 3 nights and worth it..
Great location, phenomenal pool. For an older Vegas Strip hotel, the Mirage is an awesome choice. One of the best values out there.
Agree 💯
Sad to see it closing on July 17, 2024. It was my first Vegas hotel experience as a child and I remember loving the theme and being absolutely obsessed with that pool. ❤❤ long live Mirage
Wow, a whole brand new look. It look amazing!
I stayed in one of these rooms before they updated the furnishings from the original opening. It was unreal then looks even more fantastic now. thanks for the post.
This was a fun stay and video. The tower suite at the mirage was one of my favorite rooms of all time at Vegas. The value was tremendous.
This is the only place we stay ever since our honeymoon weekend... we love it there....
The Mirage is such a special place - it has aged so well and has such a loyal following.
Ugh, I can’t wait to get back to Vegas!!! Your vlogs make me jelly lol
I'd like to get back to Toronto and Montreal eventually! Edmonton too :).
Booked to go here for 7 nights in April, your review really helped us make our mind up on where to stay.
Great reviews, keep up the good work 🙌
That intro music was killer! Your right on the money about the Mirage . While I’ve never stayed there I always stop in while I’m in Vegas . Will put the Heritage Steakhouse on my ever growing restaurant list . The volcano show is definitely cool. I try never to miss it . Glad you had a great stay . Another excellent video …😎😎😎
Yo! That intro Music was 🔥. I wish I could use it in every video lol.
Heritage steak is a great place to eat when you're looking for an escape from the Vegas madness but you still want an excellent cut of beef. It's a place Refuge/solace that most people don't know about or consider, making it a hidden gem.
I could live there, unbelievable🎉♥️♣️♦️♠️
That’s my wife and I’s favorite hotel for all the reasons you pointed out. Can’t wait to go back next year. Great video and keep up the great work!
Thank you NEO! The mirage is a really special place, even after all these years.
Mirage is my favorite in Vegas. I usually stay in this exact room with volcano view (A7). Tub is amazing. Heritage Steak is always great.
I like your style. That was one of the best Vegas tubs ever, and easily the best prime rib I've ever tasted.
@@Coolist for sure man it’s hard to go back to a standard room after that suite! I think Heritage is underrated. Sister restaurant to Craftsteak at MGM, which gets a lot more love for whatever reason.
I've only been on the casino floor but I'm very intrigued! Thanks for the video! Will be spending a night here!
Hey Theresa! You'll really like it! I think Delano and mirage are probably the best value luxury options (for mgm) on the strip.
I was there on Oct 13, 2021. My room had a nice view of the volcano. I really enjoyed my stay!
Love your channel, you explained everything really good, and also the quality of your vids are great..thank you so much for sharing..blessings 🙏
Thank you Juan! Really appreciate that comment.
Stayed there in 1997. Saw Siegfried and Roy. $90 a ticket! Seemed like a fortune back then. Beautiful Hotel. Going back in September 2023 when the Steelers come to Vegas. Won’t be the Mirage much longer…
Love staying at the Mirage. Great hotel and great location.
My goto 4 Star property. It has aged well and is highly underrated.
Great video, love the Mirage! It really stinks that Hard Rock is going to ruin the volcano display. I agree it's the best thing on the strip and it will be sad to see it go.
Love your videos! Would love to see a series where you stay in the cheap rooms as I could never afford to stay in these nicer rooms.
Hey Jamie. I was actually thinking about doing a budget luxury series, and not just in Vegas, but places like Bali and Thailand too.
@@Coolist That would be freakin cool!
GOD BLESS YOU JAMES. THE MIRAGE IS AWESOME. I HEARD THEY ARE SELLING IT 😊
My friend and I go to Vegas every year (pre-covid) and The Mirage is our go-to to stay! They always send us incredible room rates after our first trip. Aside from the pool, Otoro is the #1 reason why we stay there. We'll be there for 2 weeks in August!
I like your style. O'toro is indeed a reason to stay there.
How was ur August stay?
Otoro is a go-to for me also and one of the reasons I choose the Mirage. Tip: pool view room on 16 is really a strip view too and the elevator is an express. Even on a busy Saturday you shoot from the casino floor to your floor-no stops. Nice.
Love love Vegas❤
An oasis in the desert. I love the giant aquarium wall that's in the check in lobby and the giant dome atrium at the entrance. It was a great idea to put heritage steak right in the atrium, it has such great atmosphere. Your reviews have really gotten me pumped for my return to Vegas on the 28th! I'll give you the youtube heart this time ❤
Steve Wynn was so ahead of his time. It's crazy that the mirage is even relevant 30 years later.
Where are you staying for your next trip?
@@Coolist It sure is. New hotels like RW are built with the theme removed because people consider it classless, but Mirage and Caesars definitely proves that wrong.. Next weekend I'm staying at the secret suites of Vdara. After that in August I'll probably do this room at Mirage for my weekend getaway
Vdara is such a smart place to stay - total veteran choice. It's essentially like staying at aria with enhanced solitude, quietness, and peace. All of the benefits of city center whilst being shielded from the drawbacks.
I love the Mirage. We are Mlife Gold and we were comp'd 4 nights. We booked for MLK holiday weekend, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon. At check in we were upgraded from basic comp room to Tower 1 bdroom suite for $150/ night and no resort fee. Sometimes you can get great deals last minute like that. Nice that the wet bar has separate fridge with ice maker for your use, in addition to their mini bar fridge with all the overpriced goodies.
My favorite hotel. Was there last month!! Probably my 7-8th time staying there. The shaded area of the pool is my favorite and always the tower suites for me. Next time maybe the stay well suites!!! Love love 💘 Vegas!!!!!! Heritage restaurant has the best wagu steak l've ever had!!!😋😋😋
I can tell you are a savvy veteran when it comes to the mirage 😎
Amazing property! You will be missed Mirage!
Fantastic video. 👏🏻
I could have stayed at mirage years ago but choose to stay in the mgm grand again. Looks like I made a mistake. Definitely a property I would stay at.
Great work james.. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks David. Personally, I'd go with the mirage and Mandalay Bay over MGM every time.
Your review are amazing....I was just at the Mirage a few days ago. The Beatles LOVE, Cirque Du Soleil Show is one of the best. This hotel is quite spectacular......
I'm catching up on your videos!
I've stayed at the Mirage probably a dozen times and I've never been to Heritage. Good review!
I loved it! It surprised me to the upside - best prime rib I've ever had 🥩
Good vibes w/ this guy.
Very cool intro you certainly know how to capture the coolness.
I was here in the 90’s when the city started to boom with the theme hotels. The Mirage attraction was called Fire on Water. I’m going in October for my daughter’s birthday, because of your review we will be staying here. I live in Wisconsin, picked up on your channel because my deceased husband had the same name. I like your channel and good to see you have grown. Want to make it kick off even more try cruising, unless you’d be stepping in someone else’s territory.
,
Getting better every time brother! 🤙🏼💯
I think so too - thanks CC!!
The Mirage changed Las Vegas significantly, mostly for the better. Steve Wynn, for all the good and bad (plenty of both) is a visionary. Mirage is no longer the ultimate hotel on the Strip, but they have remained a quality hotel over the years, and is still a great value. All the hotels Wynn created then sold off have lost a certain amount of magic, yet there is so much to love with this hotel, which I rank around #6 on the Strip.
Love the pool, the volcano show and the waterfalls. Glad to hear you enjoyed the restaurants, as there has been a lot of turnover in their dining outlets. The location is excellent, sad to say their casino has not been good to me.
That room was fabulous, especially considering it is more than 30 years since opening. Don’t love that green-yellow decor, but it fits the theme.
Thanks again for a great review!
Steve Wynn was a prodigious visionary. He was so ahead of his time that the properties he designed are still relevant 20-30 years later, even after losing their magic.
Considering the heavy competition on the strip, a #6 ranking is impressive. In fact, I'd probably have it around there also. After #5 is there things get difficulty for me.
1) Wynn / encore
2) Venetian / Palazzo
3) the cosmopolitan
4) aria / Vdara
5) Caesar's palace
@@Coolist That is an impressive list, your reasoning is sound! From a different perspective (older, travel often with people with disabilities, medium budget), I would rank Strip hotels:
1. Venetian/Palazzo
2. Wynn/Encore
3. Planet Hollywood
4. Bellagio
5. Park MGM
6. Mirage
7. Vdara
8. Paris
9. Mandalay Bay
10. Harrah’s
Aria, Caesars Palace and MGM Grand are eliminated solely based on size, far too much walking for people with disabilities. Mandalay Bay is low solely based on location. Park MGM is probably ranked too high, but I give major points for their non-smoking casino. The Cosmopolitan... probably some of the best rooms, definitely the best views, nice dining options, but I just don’t like the vibe there. Go figure. 🤷🏼♀️
Epic!
Stack is incredible! I went to a work function here and it was out of this world!
Just celebrated my 50th there first time at the Mirage....OUTSTANDING hotel ...was in the same King Suite on C...I didn't have a bath TV on the wall ..oh well my only gripe was no microwave and having to go down to lobby to get my guest for the party... otherwise BEAUTIFUL will def do again and yes a guest bath would help
In my experience, microwaves are a rare occurrence in Vegas , even when staying in high-end suites.
Great video, amazing camera work. I was at the opening in 1989 and have been coming twice a year since. I can't believe Hard Rock is taking this down in a few years.
Great review and hotels made by steve wynn are timeless
Steve Wynn is the Midas of Vegas - every property he touched was gold.
This is a great hotel and the king tower suite is amazing. If you have a larger party the king suite also can come with connecting room door
We go next week. Steve Wynn didn't sell the Mirage to fund new ventures, he lost his properties due to the MGM Corporate buy out back in the day. He then came back with his new properties.
Good music. I remember staying at Harris with my dad in 1989 watching them finish building the mirage. It was a very big deal back then.
The mirage was a game changer back in the day. It was so ahead of its time that it's still relevant today.
What’s a Harris?
@@jimboland4161 youll figure it out.
I keep going back to Vegas because of Mirage, it was much prettier when Steve Wynn owned it, really really like the "ZEN" feel
Thank you.
I’m going at mirage at July 31st I love we’re all the plants are
That's prime time Vegas summer 😎
Hey!! Love your videos and they have me getting the Vegas itch again for sure. You have any experience with or would be interested in doing downtown hotel reviews?
I want to live in that room! 👍
I have booked the Mirage for 3 days in August / cant wait my favorite property in Las Vegas / your video was great / the music you used was epic / what was it ? Your video could be a sales ad for the Mirage it was so good / hope to get a tower with a Volcano view / you are correct best location in LV / thanks
Thanks man - enjoy your time there. I definitely did..
That room is so nice 😁
Hey Barbara 😊! That was one of my favorite rooms of all time! ✔️
@@Coolist well I'm so glad you loved it😍🥰💟
Always loving it🤪🥰💘
Love The Mirage, but the standard rooms are small and in need of a refresh. Definitely spend the $$$ and step up to a suite. Even the smallest suite is a huge step up from a standard room. Location can't be beat and so many great restaurants. The Pantry is my favorite spot for breakfast and Osteria Costa has great Italian.
The tower suite is a no brainer if you can get it for around $200/night like I did. I walked by both The Pantry and Osteria and they were packed - people love those places.
Hey Coolist, what property would you recommend a stay during the first week or two in December?
May.19th baby!
I’m heading to Vegas in September for the first time since 2017, I’m not staying at The Mirage but I might have to try out some sushi in there 👀
If you like sushi, you'll love O Toro.
Can't believe Hard Rock is going to rebrand the Mirage.
I’ll be here next wk
Awesome 👏🏻
Question was that an Evening Jacket or a robe at 7 mins in where if a dinner jacket did you get it
While not the "nicest" hotel on the Strip, the Mirage has long been my favorite. I just feel at home there. I know the time for change has come; while I'm choosing to be excited to see what Hard Rock does renovation-wise in addition to the guitar tower, I do mourn the end of an era. I wonder if I'll still seek it out in its new iteration or look more towards Bellagio.
Going to mirage in May before they closed, I have been at vdara, cosmopolitan, elara, and venetian. My question to you is what 3 restaurants would go to I'm starting with jean georges can't decide others.
I love the Mirage so much and I'm really sad that its closing.
Enjoyed your video, the mirage is a great hotel to stay at in Vegas.
I have to ask though, where did you get that coconut drink at with the mirage logo on it? I've been a couple times and have never seen that before
The market/store next to the guest elevators on the way to the pool.
I know the stigma of Mandalay but can u do a proper trip to that one. Mandalay is my family's spot yearly. Id love to see ur take. Thanks for all the dope ass content man
going to vegas this 4th of july, staying at gold coast,t.i & last stop, the mirage ... 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 ...
It'll be a short walk from TI to Mirage 😎
Righton, is it weird that I was drooling a bit over that Prime Rib ? Good call on the rating I've never stayed there but now you've piqued my interest and we've been to Vegas about 18 times usually once or twice a year there is a lot going on there and I would say that it seems to have that feel of the recent past that allot of people like and it's actually a nice change nowadays. No bottle of Patron this time?🤣
It would be weird if you WEREN'T drooling over that steak. 😎.
If you are looking for something different, then you should definitely stay there at least once. In my opinion, a competent Vegas guy like you should have a stay at every Wynn property (mirage, Bellagio, treasure island, etc) for historical and homage purposes. Plus every property he designed is a great stay.
Ha, I stayed away from the patron (on this trip). 😊
How much did you pay for that suite if you don’t mind me asking! I’ve stayed there several times and have never been disappointed! I love your editing skills!💙💙💙
My "how much did it cost video is coming up next."
I really enjoyed making this video - glad you liked it.
If the mirage and all the other hotels you mentioned rate a 4 out of 6, which hotels do you rate higher, and what are their individual ratings?...
Where do you get your suit jackets at
I'll be there for steak & sushi 😋 😋
Boom 💥
Vegas vacation
Legendary movie
Dude! I’m going there next month, staying at the Stay Well floors, king room.. first time staying at stay well.., I stayed last time at a resort tower, 2queen beds. Dude! Where did you get that fresh coconut juice? I usually buy the one in a can, lol!
At the market right by the guest room elevators. Have an awesome trip 😎
@@Coolist oh ok Thanks! I’ll buy one.. I sure will, staying for 4days.. 🙂
Where do you buy the coconut?
Weekend of Summerslam, 3k to book direct, 1,600 through suiteness. Did you book direct or through a third party?
I booked mine through expedia…
Hi could you please tell me how the pool thing works ie do you have to keep an eye on all your belonging phones 📱and 💰money whilst your at the pool .even more for you when you are on your own.
It's an honor system, but it does get violated and things to get stolen. I never leave anything unattended on my chair that I can't live without. That means I always take my money and phone with me, even to the pool.
@@Coolist thanks for the reply
We stayed there for a few days 2 weeks ago. Nice place - but most of the on-sight restaurants are NOT open yet. This is an inconvenience. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.
Really, closed still? That is frustrating. When I was there, Stack was still closed, but I think that was the only one.
Forgot to add into my comment thank you Steve w y n n for building the Mirage if it wasn't for you building the Mirage Siegfried and Roy wouldn't be able to perform their I presume that a lot of other celebrities might have performed there too not sure but thank you so much I hope that you are healthy and staying safe sorry to hear that a beautiful hotel and casino from what I seen on CZcams will no longer be and at The Secret Garden will not be there any longer to
Dude I’m staying here as well! Not sure if you’re still here. Hope you don’t mind if I ask for a pic if I see you! 🤙🏼
Yo Walfy! If you ever see me, absolutely do say what's up. Hope you're enjoy Vegas!
@@Coolist Good early morning man! I definitely will! Be safe and stay hydrated. This heats no joke 🥵 Heading home today but I’ll still keep an eye out!
It was a 5 star as part of Wynn management
Just a note to all Canadians traveling to Las Vegas, only Ben there once and we stayed at the mirage… it was quite nice, nothing super amazing but a nice hotel… I was excited to eat at Tom Coliccios steak restaurant, it was very good but basically the same as eating at the Keg, for the meal we had, the strip (which is my fav cut), mashed potatoes and wedge salad with $ conversion costs $107.88 and for the same meal with equally good service that meal costs $54.00 at the Keg, So lovely meal but absolutely not worth over $100.00. Lots of of great réassurants in Vegas that are 1/2-1/4 of that price…sorry but it’s not that hard to cook a great steak, mash some taters and cut up a lettuce w blue cheese….
It sad that's Siegfried and Roy are no longer around to perform at the Mirage it's also sad after hearing the rumors I hope that they're not true but I believe that they are that the Mirage is being torn down and the Hard Rock Hotel is being replaced by it and also I heard that The Secret Garden of Siegfried and Roy that was the home of the white tigers lions and other exotic pets will no longer be there it's also sad that all of their belongings including their beautiful mansion it's going to be sold I guess the money that comes from the sales will go to preserve and protect the exotic pets that were left behind after their passing I know they're both in heaven looking down and watching over they're beloved pets I know that what God brought together when they met on the cruise ship God kept together in death rest in peace Siegfried and Roy you will always be in my heart never got the chance to meet them and now I never will rest in peace siegfried.and.roy
Between the Mirage and Planet Hollywood, which do you recommend for overall experience? It's my wife 50th Bday and I want to make it special for her. Thanks in advance!
They are both really nice properties, but I think Mirage is a hair better. The only thing I didn’t like about Mirage is that they wanted to charge me to bring a small fridge to my room, whereas Planet Hollywood had a fridge. Both were the standard rooms.
@@nealxl6256 we ended up staying at the Paris and our room had an amazing view of the Eifel Tower and Bellagio Fountain show!
RIP The Mirage 🪦🌋🥹 end of 2024
That’s not the king tower room that I saw is that the volcano view or something?
Pool view
Hey
Go there while you can. The new owners will be leveling The Mirage to the ground and building a new guitar shaped Hard Rock Resort.
What??? No!
Spent two weeks on business there. Clean place but No fridge, no coffee pot, no microwave, bare minimum essentials store. The only good thing about it was it was close to the Venetian.
The Venetian/palazzo as well as Wynn/encore don't offer any of those items in their rooms either. In fact, most properties don't. I think you needed a condo hotel like vdara or Elara.
@@Coolist thank you for clearing that up. I had never been to Vegas and didn’t get to choose my hotel. Next time I’ll be a little more prepared
Not a fan of the TV at the end of the bed. Otherwise a very nice suite.
The Mirage isn't the ultimate 4 star hotel in Vegas... the Wynn is (imho). But my ALL TIME favorite was the Desert Inn, which might be partially why I'm so fond of the Wynn. But the Mirage is a close second.
Wynn 4 star? Get back to reality. It's a multiple time and perennial 5 diamond property.
I had to go to the bathroom, so I went to this large hotel just to take a piss there.
Just so you know Yorkshire is pronounced York-Shur, and if you ever need to say Worcestershire (as in the condiment) it's Wust-ter-shur (wust pronounced like just). I'm English btw.
Bruh, the volcano show is ok! It's not that bomb!
💣
Yo, Coolist! What's your highest rated Vegas hotel so far?!!!
Hey! Does Diablo’s on site at the mirage have the same giant boozy drink that has 6 shots on it? Or is that exclusive to Luxor? It’s okay if you don’t know lol. I’m staying right by mirage so if I can get it closer that would be cool!
$50 in 65 seconds its heartbreaking lol
I don’t like the anti-steak policy. It should be a must have steak policy
Some people don't have heavy wallet like you. We come in groups and don't spend a lot in the room. Mirage is easy walking to other casino and free parking.
Back 3 weeks more like a 3 star now...
Sorry was 4 star headed to 3 star or less
It's a sad day for the las vegas strip, THE mirage resort hotel has been treated for a guitar 😢 Let's celebrate by dropping off black cats !
