I made an AI upscale GLA Units & Generals | C&C Generals

- I used Stable Diffusion AI image-to-image (image2image) to create high quality / redraw versions of Command & Conquer: Generals / Zero Hour unit icon photos / live-action cameo!
Here are the low-resolution portraits of Global Liberation Army infantry & NPC characters, drawn / upscaled to HD realistic looks!
AI generated art made using Stable Diffusion w/ Realistic Vision v6.0, CyberRealistic v4.2, GSMaleto Photoreal v4 models, Arabian Male Lora style, and the ControlNet extension. Upscale models used include: Supir, 4x Ultra Sharp, Universal Upscaler, FaceUpDat, R-ESRGAN, Remacri, SwinIR.
There are also some speech synthesis based on unit quotes ;)

This video took soooo many months to make. I mistakenly converted the in-game images to .jpeg, which caused the image fidelity to be even worse than the originals, and created patches of pixellation & discoloration etc. It wasn't until I was almost done with everything that I realized I didn't convert to .png instead (which would have preserved way more details from the in-game portraits). So this could have taken WAY less effort and yielded more accurate upscale results :/

Funny thing is, no one would dare to release game with these kinda characters and their monologues today. Sad world we live in.

great work man, these look absolutely amazing! i've tried with Stable Diffusion, but after generating hundreds of images, i gave up.. either you're a godlike mathematician who managed to bend AI to his will, or u have godlike patience (or both). have to say, very impressive work! 😍
thanks! It took 3 months and 7 days for me to finish generating these. It is super time consuming, but there are definitely tricks to it depending on what you’re trying to accomplish. Each picture needs to be treated differently too. Took some research and figuring out

I like how Prince Kassad's gun becomes some kind of watch or pendant.
The upscaled picture turned it into a pendant, but surprisingly when given the upscaled pic, the image-to-video AI always recognized the "pendant" as a gun in every generated result

the ai voices capable of mimicking that are very close to the original are a godsend for adding new voice lines for modded units of old especially rts games

I think sometimes the AI nails it, but other times its comically way off.
1:20 - The flag got turned into a person, woman into a man and the gun is floating on its own. I think its actually comically appropriate that the GLA can conceal themselves within the folds of a flag.
1:36 - This person would probably do better in life by being a self exploder. Wow that's unfortunate. Their gun got turned into a wall too lmfao. Epic. This just looks like a diseased person in need of help.
