Oh gosh, I did that myself, blue roses , purple windflower and purple hyacinthe took me ages. But I can proudly say all flowers on island are cloned, hybrits or grew from seed by myself.

it'd be cool if you could bring a dug up flower to Leif or Blathers and they'd tell you what the genes are? that way you wouldn't end up with a bunch of flowers with unknown genetics. It'd probably never get added, but it's a nice quality of life idea

@@jamietheangryoctopus5938 I'm not into botany, so I can't give a real world answer. but I wouldn't care if they didn't make the mechanic connect to science because how does blathers examine a purple chunk of rock that looks the same every time you dig one up, and then it turns into a whole different place-able fossil? 😳 if the flower genes are written for each flower on your island in the games code, it shouldn't be impossible to have an npc tell you what those genes are from a programming standpoint. It doesn't have to be realistic because it's a game imo.
@@jamietheangryoctopus5938 we could also assume they like. Analyzed the genome via CRISP or something, or did some science-magic stuff to basically proof out the genes? Like, had it breed with a bunch of pre-known flowers to determine what its genes are/likely are. (this is commonly how genetic makeup is proven in animals, like snakes!) Either way, the process itself isn’t as important as the convenience would be. Maybe someday someone will figure out a way to mod it in?

I remember one time I wanted to make a “lavender farm” but I had no idea how to get purple hyacinths. For some weird coincidence it was really easy

I managed to get every flower, working together with a friend, over the course of the first 8 months I played, with no time travel. The Blue Rose actually wasnt too hard with some trial and error, but getting the green mum... I aint gonna lie, I took one from a streamer. After about 5 months of trying, we finally DID look up, and realized we had been doing things a bit off ( I was using my wild world and new horizons experience) but we actually had the green mum set-up perfect. Except for the fact we didnt know about the whole using seeds thing. That one piece of information could have saved us months potentially.
yeah! it's often a misconception that since flowers look alike that they can be used for breeding just the same. glad you got it figured out eventually lol
I'm the opposite - I had am easy time w green mums, but despite doing extensive research, I still haven't gotten blue roses 😭

I absolutely love that this is what you've been working on, I've been totally redoing my island, and wanted new flowers but didnt want to put in work so I put up the Beautification ordinance, arranged seeded flowers around my lil town basically just let the flowers breed when villagers water them or it rains. It's been super fun to see progress from villigers working jn the background. Gives them a little more life. Love the depth you go to in these vids.

I put the beautification ordinance in place in hopes of taming my weeds since I time travel so much, I have noticed a small difference in weeds but holy shit the first time I time traveled forward, my gold rose setup had like two gold roses because of all my villagers. 😭😭 I didn't expect them to be able to water the blacks to make gold!
I did that, but honestly, my flowers are getting out of hand lmao
@@autopsyturvy i think you can make gold roses from the rain watering them instead of using a gold watering can, but there’s a smaller chance they’ll appear by rain
@@avaaa_m02they need to be watered at least once with a golden watering can. This sets a flag which enables gold roses as a possible offspring, but it doesn't necessarily happen at the first opportunity
Green mums are rare? I literally have a bunch on a part of my island that I never bred for. They just happened to exist and I thought, cool. They will go nicely on this hill

Same here with the purple pansies! My island flower is pansies and when I went to terraform I noticed a ton of purples. I think that's because all the flowers that spawn originally must have a similar property to freshly planted flowers from seeds. I can't think of any other reason (plus pure dumb luck that the perfect combo of flowers were right near each other)
The funny thing is, I legit have so many blue roses accidentally so seeing him struggle with it was a bit funny lol

I spent ages trying to get green mums on the island I shared with my kids. Then I moved away and they neglected the flowers. I went to their island last week and there were 2 green mums, I almost cried
Now that you have all the flowers, what if you plant one of each, and water them until your island is covered, and see which flowers win out? Will the black roses take over once more?

I remember getting my first blue rose. I had been mistaken about how to get hybrid reds and bred purple roses with orange roses, both bred from seed roses. Now, this combination can breed hybrid reds, but it can also breed NON-hybrid reds. So I had a garden of just about a dozen maybe-hybrid red roses, which I watered every day, and I put all the pink, yellow, black, and orange roses that popped up in an undeveloped part of my island.
After months of breeding those maybe-hybrid red roses, I found a blue rose. Except it wasn't in my garden of roses I was breeding, it was on the edge of the patch of abandoned roses which had been slowly multiplying after every rain.

So I have a confession to make I actually have a bunch of green mums that I made on accident. I littlerly had no idea they were hard to make and I just... somehow stumbled upon them one day while walking around my island lol

The purple hyacinth, purple cosmos and blue rose that almost broke me!
At the time I didn’t know that flowers could clone (I’d played wild world where they didn’t), so using the checkerboard pattern really messed me up. I ended up breeding everything in isolated pairs, which is probably the best way to do it.
This would be an interesting one for more speed runners to do, it’s all about genetics and probability!

Congrats on another successful challenge! I can't believe you got the green mums so quickly; I had a field of about 30 hybrid purples before they gave me even one green! I literally got a golden rose to spawn due to random chance from two black roses being bred by rain *before* I got green mums!

Green mums are so easy once you learn it 😭 People just get really confused about how to actually do it, the importance of starting from seeds, and the special purples vs. regular purples that you’d get from two white mums. When you do everything right, it’s only 3 steps, with a really good chance of the correct breeding every time, and no ambiguity on whether or not your flowers have the right genes (unlike with blue roses)
Actual torture would be speedrunning every Nook Miles goal:)

I JUST got rid of my rainbow flower field yesterday and now I am inspired to try it again because I think I missed a couple colors of flowers. A good side project I suppose 😄
Breeding flowers was my main thing in animal crossing, and while the purple pansies were torture, the fricken blue rose was awful. I also threw away my breedjects, however I would always plant them in a breeding formation anyways away from my main breeders. I freaking slaved over my hybrid reds and it was the dang breedjects that gave me a blue rose. I was both relieved and angry lmao
first of all: SUPER impressive and insanely quality content, thank you so much for the watch!! second of all.... lol he managed to snag a bunch of the most popular villagers in this hybrid run seemingly by total happenstance. Raymond, Beau, Lolly, and Zucker.

ive been flower breeding since i started my island back in march, and now i only have the blue rose, gold rose, and lily of the valley left. i absolutely feel your pain with just how long the blue rose took, especially since roses were the last seeds i got my hands on as well. ive been following an infographic i found on flower breeding from a datamine, which only mentions the purple/orange rose method for making a hybrid red, and since the two hybrid reds i got from that havent produced a blue rose yet i might have to try the yellow/hybrid pink method of getting hybrid reds... god, what a pain. i salute your efforts.
Question, are the rarer flowers worth more to sell?
As much as a nightmare it was getting every flower I kinda miss doing it cause it was just another daily thing you should do in animal crossing... then again, I don't envy anyone who still hasn't gotten blue roses...

Rain also has a specialty to it. It counts as "golden water" from a golden watering can, being able to breed black roses into golden ones.

For anyone else flower breeding, to avoid the hybrid/clone dilemma, if you need a hybrid for the next step, just use pairs instead of the "diamond" pattern, breeding only the two you need together. That way you know 10000% its a hybrid :)
I remember when the game first came out, mums were my island flower and I ended up with tons of green ones from just rain and letting them do their thing. I sold them all because I thought they were ugly, I didn’t know they were so rare 😅

You should try to get every single villager to move into your island at least once! It's over 400 i think, but I'd love to see that process! (if you have amiibos, i guess it's your decision whether or not they're allowed)
Blue Rose took me forever to get. Took 5mths to get the first one, so very proud at that moment LOL. Not sure how I got the Green Mum but once I did, they cloned like crazy. I watched this on your Twitch channel, crazy that you were able to condense it down to less then 30min.
they should add sub-hybrids (like red-green, blue-yellow) that can only be breeded by hybrids to make this challenge a living nightmare

I love gardening in real life and in animal crossing. Im currently trying to get some black cosmos as well as the green mums for my island but I've been more occupied with getting DIY recipes for food lol. Anyways, this was a great video as always and I look forward to more in the future

Congratulations. I'm surprise that you got blue rose so easy. When I tried to breed a blue rose for myself, it take around 4 months, I was already giving up. I had too much dificult to breed purple roses so it was hard for me since the beggining

I randomly got purple mums from planting two white together and I was so confused I just left it but now I want more so I'm gonna plant more together! hehehe

I have an island called Fleur Isle and its full of gardens of every type of flower (grown by me). They just kept cloning after that so I separated each color all into their own gardens. I use them to plant on my other islands and also to pick for DIY projects. The last flower I grew and had to really work for was the purple pansy.

If you're lucky, you can start with hybrids due to base flower colors spawning in a certain position. I remember when I started my island I had 2 orange lilies and a pink lily that I found without any prior knowledge about flower breeding
Love how the most challenging one for me to get is a purple wildflowers but I have almost every other color under the sun. Guess I need to get on that. 😅

I fully admit I'm not the smartest person, but they made the flower thing way too complicated lol. I've been playing consistently for 3 years and still dont have them all. I wish the hybrid-but-basic-colored flowers had like a teeny difference so I could tell what's what. It gets overwhelming to try and remember and I dont time travel.
I started with mums on my island, and while I was trying to get the last hybrids for roses and tulips, I noticed that after several months of negligence that some of the wild mums on my island produced a natural green mum because some yellow hybrids started to spread. I never thought something like this would happen
Took me legitimately over a year to get blue roses and purple windflowers
It hurt
I thought the green mums and purple panders were easy because they happened pretty quickly on their own

With 2.0 and lief being at Harv’s island, it’s so much easier now 😭😭

I remember when I 1st started to collect all the flowers. I ask my sister how she manage to get all the hybrids, then she sent me a detailed excel file how to make hybrids hahaha I was too stunned to speak hahaha she made spread sheets for each flowers hahaha

now if you just have this all on one island, you might see how many hours it takes to get the whole game "done" (all flowers, 5 star island, full villagers and players, all nookmiles, all golden tools, all museum items, etc)
I'm seeing a few people in the comments talking about speedrunning all DIYs. It sounds hard on paper, but is even harder in practice considering you need to:
-Catch and donate all bugs and fish
-Get 5 stars
-Shoot down 300 balloons
-Help Gulliver 30 times
-Break 100 axes
-Get very lucky with villagers in their houses
-Get even luckier with special Kap'n islands
In conclusion, please do this Dagnel.
