As much as I respect the titans. I can’t help to think how lucky they were to even be in the Super Bowl. The music city miracle was one of the luckiest plays in nfl history, 2nd only to Malcom butlers interception. I’m sorry Titan fans but it’s true.
I watched this with my late grandma when Kurt Warner hit Issac Bruce for the game winning TD I was jumping up and down in my living room. When Mike Jones made the game saving tackle I lost it. I met Mike Jones and London Fletcher just a few months later. Mike Jones said he could hear his high school coach screaming in his ear. He said his coach always stressed the perfect tackle and that’s what it was. I won’t ever forget the 1999 St Louis Rams.
Such a great game. The top player for the Rams was Kurt Warner, who threw for a then Super Bowl record 414 YDs and 2 TDs while completing 24 of 45 passes. The top player for the Titans was Eddie George who rushed for 95 YDs and 2 TDs on 28 carries.
That play by McNair @ 17:35 is insane, I think it's better than the Eli Manning escape + Tyre Helmet catch play in Super Bowl 42. Just no one remembers this play because of the outcome.
+Arch Hades agreed. i still think this SB should be considered the best of the last 20 years, but everyone seems to forget about this one for some reason. Not a Rams or Titans fan btw.
Agreed. Eli’s play, while iconic, wasn’t necessarily special. You could even make the case that Eli panicked a threw a jump ball up in the middle of the field and got lucky. But this was one man willing his team forward. Steve dropped back, saw the Rams dropped 8, got caught in contain, spins out of contain, gets caught in between the Rams two biggest ends, walks through them trying to sack him, and then keeps his eyes downfield to fire an absolute MISSILE to Kevin Dyson. If the Titans win, that play is talked about as one of the two or three greatest individual efforts in football history. But they ended up one yard short and it’s forgotten.
Few sports moments have ever affected me like the Isaac Bruce touchdown in the 4th quarter. It was the moment where winning became real. Even with the stress of the following Titans drive. The touchdown to take the lead was the key moment. To be in St. Louis & to see that moment was unbelievable. The only other time in a Super Bowl I was ever as shocked was the Plaxico Burress catch vs the undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl 42.
John Masucci whoooa calm down buddy. First off Pete Carroll has drafted well, won the NFC West and won a Super Bowl of course he isn't Jeff Fisher. He's a winner. If you watched this game you know full well beyond a few mishaps the Rams could have blown the Titans away. At that time OT came down to winning a coin toss & the rams had Hakeem running kicks back. If a coin flip is a 50 % chance it's a fair to ask if Fisher asks a one two punch of a prime Eddie George or Steve McNair to win the game.
John Masucci Your elaboration is a bunch of dribble. Pete won a Super Bowl and he lost a second one. On the play sheet it was a fair call Bevle made the play call. Pete owned up to it like a man. The call was terrible not because it was a pads but because it was a slant in the redzone. Kurt Warner found that out too on the last play of a superbowl half against the Steelers.
John Masucci You have your opinion on the play call. The same old tired opinion from old tired coaches that continue to not win games. Sean Peyton won a SB because of an onside kick. I know FISHER would have kicked the FG. And if he lost the coin toss he would have lost in OT. Like I said the old OT rules were a bit×h. There's a reason why the college game has increased scoring in the NFL. It's not only the formations but the aggressive play calling. When you aren't the better team there's a reason you go for 2 in OT. But I get it you stick to the play sheet the same play sheet that cost Iowa winning a playoff spot: 1:47 sec no timeouts just gave up a 4th and 2...ball on 2 yd line...if your opponent scores they only go up by 3. You and most conservative folks attempt a goal line stand. When the proper call is to let the team score and attempt to get a FG in 1:30 to go into OT.
+John Masucci *Are you f***king kidding me? Who do you think Jeff Fisher is, Pete Carroll?* Jeff Fisher could only WISH to be Pete Carroll. Carroll's teams actually make the playoffs all the time, and he's actually WON a Super Bowl. Jeff Fisher is a joke whose teams almost never make the playoffs and who hasn't won jack shit in his coaching career besides one AFC Title.
+Ben Unanaowo I don't think McNair was underrated at all. I think he was properly rated. He didn't put up huge numbers, but he won and was consistent. And let's not forget that he did win Co-League MVP with Peyton Manning. He was recognized. He was a borderline hall of fame QB.
I don't know if this was best Super Bowl, but it sure as hell was the most thrilling! The 'Greatest Show on Turf' vs. 'Air McNair' was more about tough, smothering defense and ground and pound old school football. Warner took a beating but kept slinging the rock. McNair and George were just incredible. Had the Titans won, no one whould be talking about Eli Manning and David Tyree, they would be talking about that amazing play between McNair and Dyson. How many quarterbacks could have escaped from 2 massive defensive linemen DRAPED on then dragging him down only to power free and deliver a strike that kept that drive and the Titan's hopes alive with :06 left. That play only topped by the dramatic desperation tackle of Dyson, 1 yard short of tying the game by Mike Jones (who?). I don't know if I've ever been as hyped up during a SB as I was during the second half of this game. Outstanding!!!!!!
If Tennessee hadn't used all 3 of their timeouts they could give the ball to Eddie George for a touchdown to tie the game at 23 or win with a two point conversion 24-23

In my opinion, whoever won the coin toss. The Titan defense was an inch away from either giving up a score or getting a stop, as indicated by the score they gave up despite being 1 inch away from sacking Warner. The Ram defense was completely out of gas and if the game went into overtime, they would've been demoralized that they gave up the touchdown to deprive the team of the championship that they were previously 6 ticks away from.
