Andy it depends how linear the throttle is and how long the pedal travel is.
These things can help on some cars, but they aren't a miracle cure or magic bullet. Get the setup right though and there can be a noticeable positive difference (get it wrong though and car can become undriveable)
Modern cars do the same thing in sport and sport+ type modes BUT they often change gearbox and engine mapping at same time.
Those things are utter pish , make zero difference .
I don’t know what model you’ve bought, or what car you have but I can assure you this has made a massive difference to my cayman 981. 👍
It doesnt change cars power.
It simply takes the output from the electronic throttle and changes the sensitivity.
If it changes the signal how can it not work ?
The problem comes if you expect more than it can offer.
It wont transform a car.
It can't make it faster.
All it does is mean you need less throttle for more revs/speed.
Mash your foot to the floor and it won't matter if the things fitted or not, but it can to a degree make a car feel more responsive.
@@alsatch_ you know its all just throttle mappings right? they just make the throttle super twitchy to make the car feel "quicker". you'll have no real extra power.

Great video, just received mine and can confirm the increase in response, makes the car much more lively and interesting to drive - surprising because i hadn't realised just how much lag Porsche had tuned in!!
Yes loads of people have done it but i don't trust anything aftermarket in between drive by wire controls and what they're controlling. Who's to say there isn't some failure mode that puts it in permanent full throttle. They certainly haven't invested in the kind of testing that Porsche would have.
Just front loads the accelerator pedal. If that is the feel you like.
I put a similar product on my 981 Boxster base, and it made a huge difference. My brother-in-law put one on his Mini Cooper S, and it turned it into a little rocket. These things are brilliant. Love your videos, Al.

I've never read so many daft comments. Nowhere in the video does he say it adds HP. He says it makes the throttle response more immediate. While this may make some people feel that the car has more power, it doesn't add HP, it adds responsiveness to the throttle. If you want more HP RaceChip has a different product for that.
Is this not similar to the well known sprint booster, except it’s done through an app.
Yup. There’s a few versions made by different companies. Sprint booster, pedal commander and racechip XLR.

@@alsatch_ well before my tune normal mode was underwhelming and sport was good. Now normal mode is good and sport is great. Especially above 5k where she really pulls.
Unfortunately not available for a lot of Porsche models. I tried to find an XLR for my Panamera, but not available. Similarly for various models of 911 I tried. Pity - I'd have liked to give this a go.
They are definitely available for panamera. You need to select your model, and then stroll down the page past the section where it tells you that there are no performance chips available, below that is the XLR product.

I select my car make and model etc and then go to the XLR page where it says 'not available for your car' and offers a button to 'continue shopping'. If I scroll down to the bottom of that page, the only option is to 'continue shopping'. I can't add an XLR to my cart. I have a Panamera 2015 (970.2) 3L diesel 300HP. My wife has a 981 Cayman - we both really enjoy your videos and your down-to-earth presentation style. PS. There ARE performance chips for the Panamera (the GS and GTS), but no XLR is listed anywhere.Weird. It would be a big favour if you could successfully add a XLR to the cart for the Panamera diesel 300HP - that would prove that the problem lies with me!
Hi Al - ever since I saw your video on the XLR I wanted to improve the laggy throttle response on my Panamera, but as I commented before, the XLR isn't available for the Panamera 3.0 diesel 300 bhp. However, I have now bought a PEDAL COMMANDER for the car which does the same job. Just thought I'd update my earlier comment with this good news.
It appears the website doesn't offer the 981 version here in the U.S., only 718!!
Definitely not available for all Porsches. This the reply I received from RaceChip's Customer Service people:
"Thank you for contacting the RaceChip Customer Service.
Unfortunately, we didn't develop a XLR for your Porsche Panamera. Sometimes the results are not satisfactory, which is why no XLR is offered. We are sorry."
Pity as the look on Al's face during his test drive with XLR really made me want one! :)
Ah that’s a bummer mate. Sorry to hear that. I did a check and see that it is available for some panamera models but not others.
Quick check shows it’s available for the 970 GTS and 971 Turbo and a few others, but also a few models that it’s not available for. There are other companies who do similar products called sprint booster and pedal commander so it might be worth contacting those guys to see if they can offer anything. Cheers and good luck 👍

Nice video and car lol, I purchased one a few years ago and I have to say best purchase for my car so far. It definitely transformed the car and makes it more fun to drive. I also wanted to say that in regards to the eco mode it comes quite useful especially on snowy or icy roads to help prevent tire slippage and when I take my car in for any type of service (like tire rotation and balance) so the techs don't get to carried away with the accelerator lol.
Deffo need the little controller I have the sprint booster and you can change it whenever you want which is a lot easier
I like the fact w Sprint Booster I can put a code in to dismantle the car or to put it in valet mode too.
Apparently the new gen is on sale from 5th Ocober with 2 versions one with B/T and one without either £219 or £189. Also has new funtionaility I believe.

Interesting. On my Lexus isf it was either too responsive or not responsive enough between modes so I got a similar add on to this. . Personally I don’t have the that issues with my 981 but maybe that’s because I have the sports chrono option.
Could be a better response on the sport chrono models yes. My 997 has the sport chrono and I don’t feel the need for this kit in that car. Thanks for watching 👍

No. This is strictly a throttle response enhancement. If you want additional HP you have to buy a tuner or you can get the RaceChip GTS Black piggyback box.
Darn - not available for 991.2 C4S.
I’ve just done a search and it is there. Select your vehicle from the drop down lists and scroll down past the initial message.
Effectively remapping the throttle response curve, right? So what you experience is closer to WOT when giving less input. No change to power, but you’re getting more throttle input to the engine with less physical movement.
I would be a bit concerned to use this in track or intense canyon drives. Having more linear throttle response is important for better control. A logarithmic throttle response is fun on the street, but can be tricky in more technical driving situations.
Hi Al. Happy Sunday! Your videos are very informative. I’m new to your channel. What throttle response kit (Made by Race-chip) would you recommend for a 2008 Porsche Cayenne S with 140,015 mi.? In addition, is the mileage worth purchasing? And how many years would you say I could drive it before it reaches 200k mi? Please advise!
Another excellent video. Does this unit make the throttle "touchy" or hurt low speed drivability? You know, in instances where you need to feather the throttle, like maybe inching out a sloped driveway to avoid scraping.
I use a Sprint Booster in my 987.1 S... I find Sport 8 the best.

Yes they are available for the 997 c4s just have a look on their website. I don’t think you could use the tool to tone down the TR on your cayenne though. Thanks for watching 👍

He logs in and out of multiple accounts to spread hate upon me and my channel, and has conversations with himself to make it look like other people are agreeing with him.
Some messages are quite tame, and some are aggressive. He changes his style often.
You might also notice that some of the comments have a high like count, this is because he uses a ‘bot’ to like his own comments, to make them look popular (generally a hate comment) so it looks like a lot of people are agreeing with him. He will also use this bot to like other comments that have a hint of negativity to them.
He was also posting online that he was a retired police officer, this was fake and he has never been a police officer.
This person also came to my place of work, threatened to kill me and was reported to the police for it. He was told that he would face harassment and stalking charges if I was to press charges. I said that I didn’t want to press charges, I just wanted him to stop.
It stopped for a while but it seems his obsession with this channel has once again developed.
He has sent letters to my neighbours about videos on my channel.
It doesn’t stop there. Because I also have a CZcams channel for my business ‘DIAGNOSTIC WORLD’ which a lot of you know, and I have personally served a lot of you when buying scan tools and has been great chatting to you all. Link in description LOL 😂
He has also migrated to that channel, spreading hate and making fake reviews on the products that are perfectly good & perfectly legal.
Glenn needs serious help, and if this does not stop, I will be once again be going to the police, this time to press charges and will see him in court. I have evidence spreading back years, print outs and screenshots of thousands of hate, harassment and slander/defamation of character comments on the channel.

Save yourself the money and modulate the throttle more aggressively for the same effect!

What is the difference between having this fitted versus Porsche Sports Chrono fitted at factory?
Not sure. I think the throttle response is going to be better on the sport chrono models so this might not be needed on those cars.
Really considering getting one of these for my 981. Once its in a setting, do you need to always have your phone in the car for it to remain in that setting?
No. Once it’s set up you don’t need to touch the phone or even have it in the car, it will keep to your setting.
You would only need to use your phone again if you wanted to change the setting but I’ve found a setting that i and haven’t touched the app since to be honest. Thanks for watching 👍

This looks like a new device that imitates the sprint booster. What is the car sports chrono setting when you are using it? Are you always on sports mode while changing the settings ?

Just add this to my 2005 997 tip, and I can confirm yes! Difficult to keep it under 3k revs though while it warms up as it completely changes the shift pattern. Found the race mode too much for normal driving as every little touch of the gas throws your head back like you’ve floored it. Sports is good to give a great balance between driving round town with no delay when you want acceleration 👍

It was really easy, in fact my 11 year old wanted to help so he actually did most of it (true!) I did the connecting of the leads as does need a bit of pressure to get the ‘click’ but really easy to do. The difference is very profound and seems to want to live in the power band through all gears. The only negative is that even town driving 30/40 mph, it wanted to hold the gears and take the revs above 3000 before getting warm. At the moment I have it in eco S mode (the app lets you tweak each of the standard settings) and even this has made it more punchy but with the benefit of the gears change slightly sooner (in the lower rev range). If I’m on a longer drive, I will put in sport once warmed up. Another benefit is the noise, because it changes gears to keep in the 3-7k range even with normal driving, the engine roars a lot more without having to put your foot down 👍

A hundred grand Porsche , which has been described as one of the best cars ever made by the company , doesn’t need a £200 box that doesn’t deliver any more power .

You should look into non-molestation orders. My (soon to be) ex-wife tried to take one out against me based on a load of nonsense but they have a use for someone who’s genuinely being harassed. It sounds like this guy has a serious issue and is a risk so don’t take it lightly. You can apply to the court using a simple form and if you have the evidence it should be relatively easy, but it does take time.

I’ve got this in my Boxster 981. Bit awkward to fit for me but wow just wow. It changes the whole experience. I got mine with the controller and once I had my setting I’ve never touched it since. Legit 💪

@@alsatch_I eventually installed my pedal commander which gladly still comes with a control unit as well as a phone app. It is handy to have a physical control unit. The device is superb.... Rapid acceleration !
Wondering if there would be a difference with this chip between a manual or PDK in responsiveness. I have a 987s cayman (manual) and with an older tech car, I am wondering if the difference you feel on your 981 would be different to my porsche?
It’s a good question, I’m not 100% sure on the answer but hopefully somebody will be along soon. I would lean towards it making a positive difference even on a manual though. Thanks for watching 👍
I'm in the US and we have here a device called Sprint Booster that works the same way as the unit you've installed and it makes a world of difference in throttle response just like you are experiencing. I don't know if they offer the Sprit Booster in the UK, and if so the cost for it. Sprint Booster has a lock mode and a valet mode for those who may want that aspect also. I have one in my Gen 2 Cayman S (2010) and a Toyota Tacoma (2013) and it is a version 3 with more adjustments (10) in each of the modes.
Yeah I’ve read up on the sprint booster. I think this XLR kit falls into the same situation where it is illegal in California and other places but I’d bet nobody takes any notice of that. Thanks for watching 👍

I’ve just had a quick look at they do offer them for the 997. If you scroll down past the bit where it says they don’t have any products for performance increment, it should show the XLR kit.
I can’t speak for all 997 models, I just entered my 997 c4s and there was definitely a product for that model. 👍
