I used a "rubber wrench" which is commonly used to take oil filters off. Worked better than the wrench which cracked the ring.

What happens if the cover won’t come off with channel locks? I’ve also tried a strap wrench and nothing. Is there a tool specifically made for these or something else I can use?

This is great. Do you know how to replace if it doesnt have the fitting that you removed with the wrench?

If it doesn't have a threaded fitting that removes with a wrench, its most likely a pull out fitting in which case just pull using the same tool in the video. (tool is called channels lock pliers )

Is it possible to easily replace directional return jets with multidirectional ones that have an eyeball? I've read about the importance of having them angled to create a vortex but both of mine are fixed pointing straight from the stairs on the shallow end to the skimmer in the deep.

Good info!!! Do you have to loosen that ring to adjust the eye direction?

Yes, you do have to loosen the ring to position the eyeball.

The eyeball part of mine doesn't tighten down and changes direction every time the pool pump turns off for the night. What could be going on that it's not locking down? (new pool owner).

I have an older in-round pool, and my return jets are smaller in diameter where they screw in. Do you know anywhere that carries these older style return jets?

Are there any part or model numbers on your old return jets? That might help us narrow down the search field.

What’s the tool that changes out the entire fitting?
