- In this video my daughter Amy and I tackle the 27 mile White to Dark Peak Route from Bakewell to Hope. The route was devised by Country Walking Magazine to mark their 25th anniversary and it takes in some great Peak District scenery.

great to see you back. Missed you.
Thanks for watching Denis, it's good to be back :-)
Great to see a new PD walk -- what beautiful countryside through which to hike. And even better to do so with your daughter.
Quality father / daughter time. She used to hate climbing hills when she was a bit younger but she enjoys it much more now. Thanks for watching
Good to see ya back in the Glorious Peak District Dean! ATB

Thanks for watching Richard, it's good to be back :-)
Been watching a few of your adventures but first time commenting. Very inspiring and looking forward to seeing many more outings from you. Very helpful website too and appreciate the time and effort you put into all of this.
+David Smith thanks David, I've had a bit of a break over last few months to help my daughter focus on her exams but I'm back now :-) The website has been neglected a little over the past year but it's on my list of things to whip back in shape. Thanks for watching, ATB Dean
Glad your filming again great video 😀
Thanks for watching Gary, it's good to be back :-)
Great video again Dean nice to see you back on you tube, what a good route you had , I do love Monsal Trail . Good look to your daughter in army.
Thanks Darren, she is very excited about the Army so we are continuing with the fitness. We walked 7 miles in under 2 hours last night, I was shattered by the end of it and she was fine :-) It's great to be back on CZcams again, thanks for watching mate. Dean
Excellent bro some lovely views along the way too. Hope all goes well with your daughter with her up coming career.
Thanks for watching Ken. My daughter really enjoyed the walk so i'll try and get her out there again for more fitness / fun :-) atb
Great vid and a cracking camp spot for the night.
Thanks for watching, we were quite lucky with that camp spot. I knew there were little hollows on the moor but wasn't sure if we'd find one big enough for 2 tents that wasn't too rocky :-)
Spot on dean as normal, great video.
Keep them coming pal.
+Mr Fraz Thanks for watching mate, new one coming Monday :-)
I’ve only just got around to watching this, really enjoyed it. I fancy doing this, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Mark, it's a great route
Great video mate really enjoyed it. Good to see you back, it looked a really nice walk. Fair play to Amy for joining the Army, hope she gets in. Will always be a regret of mine for not trying. A great view where you pitched, and always nice to pack away in the dry. Well done on avoiding the rain lol, I went in lady bower the other day and stood next to the bell mouth overflows 😀 thanks for sharing mate ATB mark
+Mark Taylor outdoors Thanks for watching Mark, it felt good to take the camera with me to the Peaks again. Been out walking and in bikes with Ray but left camera at home. Amy is doing well with her fitness so far, kind of wish I was joining myself as it all sounds amazing :-) ATB Dean
Yessssss - he's back - I had dropped you a note on the last vid, brilliant Dean - thanks for "coming back" from the wilderness - we need these oasis of quality in all the rubbish at the moment . Great job
It felt good to be back out there with the camera, I spotted your comment on my other video while this one was uploading. Thank you for your kind words, can I use your quote on my CV? "Oasis of quality in all the rubbish", that's how it feels at work too haha :-) It made me genuinely LOL
Cheers Dean - yes with pleasure , these are just true "eye candy" for us and think you can see from all the comments you really do make a difference . My daughter is 12 and we are based in Thailand but when over next year will be following some of your paths - and if you ever out this way again would be a pleasure to host you . You can honestly take real pride in these , take care
Thailand is a beautiful place, I really enjoyed our time there and would love to return one day. which part of the country are you based in? Hope you have a great time when you are over here. I love making the videos, I also love the editing process and making the music too so can't wait to get back out there again and record some more :-) Really appreciate your kind words and the support from all who watch the vids. all the best, Dean
Cheer Dean, Bangkok been here nearly 14 years , always a welcome
We only spent 3 or 4 days in Bangkok but really enjoyed it.
Dean, as ever an amazing video, great filming and story. my intake of UK that always brings a nostalgic feel to this Balkan based guy. Thanks again!
An Englishman in the Balkans likewise...live in the Middle East now but used to walk these hills a lot. Thanks dean.
+An Englishman in the Balkans Thanks for watching David, it was great to be back out with the camera again in the Peak District. I'd been out lots but needed some family time without the camera. Hope you and Tam are well and enjoying the summer (if it's not too hot there) ATB Dean
+High Light Thanks for watching, normal service should resume now so will have more content coming. Have another 4 videos to edit :-) ATB Dean

+An Englishman in the Balkans my girlfriend was looking at holidays near you the other day, Croatia and up to Zagreb :-)
Another great video with fantastic Description👍
Thanks Chris, it's a really great route
Was literally just thinking last night i havent seen deans vids for a while then by magic one appears today :-) good vid as always
Thanks for watching Paul, I knew it had been a while since I last uploaded but can't believe it was 2 months. thats the longest i've gone without uploading for about 5 years I think, family had to take priority though but i'm back now thankfully :-) ATB mate, Dean
Awesome pal, Keep up the videos. Wild camp on higher shelf stones in my new tent was really good!
Thanks for watching. Higher Shelf stones is a really great spot, nice and remote with no crowds :-)
That gate fastening looked like the terminators hand - good to see you about - Amy' is a brave girl, but it is a good life in the forces if you can take to it - ATB
+Flat Broke Frank haha :-) I was in danger of dropping the camera so it was definitely a 2 hand task. Thanks for watching Frank
Brilliant Dean, always good to see you back on the Tube.
+Paul Barnett Thanks for watching Paul, it's good to be back :-)
Great to see you out in the peaks again, truly glorious, thanks for taking us along, cheers craig

looks like a fantastic route, I will definitely have to give that a go. Dominic
+Domabventure thanks for watching Dominic, it's a really great route. We enjoyed it :-)
Great video-I've never heard of this route before but it's nice to know that there's a long distance path in the Peak District. It would be even better if there was another route from Hope to the far north of the dark peak district.
+TheHikersGuide it's a really great route, I'd definitely recommend it. If you wanted to head north from Hope you could use the Pennine Way from Edale and get over to it via the Great Ridge :-) Thanks for watching
So glad to see a new video Dean. I always check my feed for a new Dean Read vlog. This one was great as we did part of this route back in 2011. Awesome. Keep the vlogs coming.
+Russell Hawker Thanks for watching Russell, it's felt good to be back out in the Peaks with the camera again :-) ATB Dean
Great video as always Dean, looks like Amy, Ray and yourself had a great hike and overnighter. First time I've seen the Alpkit store in Hathersage. Atb
+Paul Sheard I've not been in the Alpkit shop yet myself, I'd be too tempted to buy stuff I don't really need or have already got :-) Thanks for watching Paul
As always, an inspiration. Can't wait for my 3 daughters to be a little older so they can join me on my walks and camps. Look forward to the backlog of videos.
My daughter and I have some great memories from times spent walking and camping. thankfully she has broken through the moody teenager stage now and i'm cool enough to hang out with again :-) hahaha. thanks for watching and I hope you can get out with your daughters this summer
Over 800 views in less than a day mate .. kind of tells you something !
Keep posting mate .. thoroughly enjoyed this video dean .. reminds me to get out more with my daughter too .
All the best 👍
It does mate, I hadn't checked how my channel was going if i'm honest for a month or so. I've come back to having over 8K subs and some lovely messages of support, means a lot to hear from people. I'd been having a love hate relationship with the internet since early this year and there were a few things which happened on CZcams that made me think... why bother.. it's all about the memories though and savouring the experiences so that my family, friends and I can watch them in years to come. the fact that people want to watch them too is a real buzz and something that makes me feel really lucky :-) Thanks for your support mate, hope you and the family are ok. ATB Dean
Another excellent video Dean! Looked like a cracking trip. Super wild-camp spot!...Atb Nige
Thanks for watching Nice, it was really good spot to camp. nice and sheltered so we could remain out of sight. hope you're doing well and happy birthday for the other day :-)
Hey Dean, I just wanted to say thank you for posting your videos. I have often watched them to relax in the evening. I have never been to England but have dreamed for years of seeing the beautiful countryside there. My family (the Skippers) apparently came from Lincolnshire to America in the 1600's. As someone who loves hiking and camping I look forward to possibly coming to England and doing some hiking and hopefully wild camping. Keep those videos coming!
Hi Andrew thanks for watching. I hope you manage to get over to the UK to do some camping and to explore. I've been daydreaming today about walking stateside. The 100 mile wilderness near the northern terminus of the Appalachian trail takes my fancy :-) All the best, Dean.
Looks a cracking route that Dean, looks like it's going on the ever increasing list of walks & camps to do..That was the night i was on madwoman's stones & it was a cracking evening despite no sunset, but some of the colours in the sky through the clouds was beautiful to see as dusk turned to night. And yes it did rain the following morning i got a good soaking..Good to see you back out mate & looking like your'e enjoying it once more, tfs take care & atb..Andy.
Thanks for watching Andy, even though the weather was changeable we got really lucky. I much prefer midweek walking :-) haha. hope you're doing well mate, ATB Dean
Another great video Dean,i'm gonna have to do this route.
+Mark Stones thanks for watching Mark. It's a really great route and passes some great places. Also good transport links too, we left our car on a side street near Bakewell station on the Monsal Trail and got bus back from Hope. Hope you have a good one if you go and do it, ATB Dean
Inspirational as always Dean :-)
Thank you for your kind words David and thank you for watching. ATB Dean
A superb watch and listen Dean as always and great to see Amy out with you. Good luck Amy with your entry in to the army. Happy wandering. Paul :)
Thanks Paul, it was great to have some quality father / daughter time. she really enjoyed it so i'm hoping it won't be our last trip out this summer. Thanks for watching

Well done good video 👍🏻 thanks.
Thanks for watching Andy
Hi Dean
Great to see you back with a camera in your hand, your certainty got some decent mileage in. I did think it was going to be midge fest 3 at one point.
Regards
James and Kirsteen
+Wasdale Man thanks for watching James & Kirsteen. I'm glad the midges only arrived towards the end of the evening, I hate the little things :-) My daughter enjoyed the walk so hopefully we'll be out again soon, she is currently in Northumberland enjoying herself on an adventure holiday. All the best, Dean
As always great vid Dean ...well worth the wait Glad your back mate 👍
+Will Walkley thanks Will, it was great to be back out with the camera again :-) ATB Dean
great video dean i didnt know there was an official white to dark peak route but i have been through that part several times this month ,you passed the yonderman cafe i always pop in there for breakfast .also i am really glad you have better luck than me with trekking poles i have given up using them and my current main tarp pole for my lux hex v4 a is the 5 foot msr pole
The White to Dark peak route is something I remember reading about at the time but didn't take much notice, I kept seeing the waymarkers on signs out and about so it was something I thought i'd like to tackle one day. We literally decided we would do it on the morning we set off. I've been lucky so far with the trekking poles, had considered buying the pole but I wanted to have poles with me too just incase I needed to use them to protect my knees. hope you're doing well, ATB Dean
You covered some miles in that one! Nice to have you back.
+Philip Nicolson it was a great trek, I was ready for a sit down afterwards :-) thanks for watching Philip
HEY Glad your back missed your Vlogs & good Vlog to come back with too
Congrats to Amy for Joining Amy well done you :) x
+David H hi David thanks for watching. Sorry for the lack of vlogs recently, hopefully normal service will resume now and I'll be uploading more :-)
One for the "to do" list there Dean, looks like a cracking 2 day walk. I've missed watching your videos seems like it's been a while, looking forward to more adventures, thanks for sharing. ATB Ben
+Yorkshirewanderer It's a really enjoyable walk, we started late on the first day so it could be made in to 2 pretty leisurely days. It's good to be back out in the Peaks with the camera again :-) Thanks for watching Ben, ATB
Good to see your channel Dean popup in my sub feed, it's been awhile! Great video as per usual!
It's been too long :-) Felt great to be back out with the camera again, Thanks for watching.
Nice video Dean. Good to see another video of yours. I wait for your videos like a kid waits for the ice cream truck!.. lol cheers mate.
+Irving Von Luxembourg thanks for watching Irving, it's good to be back :-) haha
Good to see another vid from you :) Looked like a lovely few days! Looking forward to your next outing :) ATB, Dave
It was great to be back out with the camera again, we have just returned home from Ireland too so will have more videos coming from that trip. Thanks for watching Dave, ATB Dean
I'll keep an eye out for them :)
Hi Dean. Just did this route (except Win Hill due to running out of time to get to Hope), couldn't get over the stepping stones as there's a big tree in the middle of them 😂
+Alistair thanks for watching Alistair, it's a really enjoyable route isn't it. My daughter had a great time.
Just looking up different routes to do in the peaks and saw this one, come on CZcams to see if anyone had a vid of it and of course SIR Read has done it LOL Looked like a nice route. 👍
It's a really great route, nice 2 dayer 👍😎
Lets do this one as a warm up next year, then Hadrian’s or something similar. I’m sure we could convince Dave
Hadrian's Wall, for a warm up and then we will do the Tour Du Mont Blanc in France/Switzerland/Italy. Google that as it looks amazing :-)
That looks a brilliant wander, think I need to walk it myself. :)
Thanks for watching Andrea, it's a great route and I'd highly recommend giving it a go.
Nice one deano, was wondering where you got to? :) brilliant video bud. Thanks for sharing again.
Thanks for watching Pete, it felt good to be back out in the peaks with the camera again :-)
great video as always Dean. More specifically give my best to Amy with her army career ATB Kev
My daughter said "thank you, I can't wait to join" :-) I'll say thank you for watching. ATB Dean
Doing Castleton to Matlock Bath (Limestone way) next week. a good 25 miles
Excellent, it's a great route. I think i preferred the northern section of the Limestone Way to the southern so I hope you have a great time and get good weather . Thanks for watching :-)
Its a route Ive been wanting to do for the last 14 years but never got round to doing it.
+Nazgûl hope you enjoy it, I'd love to do it again
Nice to see you uploading again dean, my illness is improving now too so things are looking up :) ATB RYAN
Thanks for watching Ryan, really glad to hear you health is improving mate. ATB Dean
Great video great music as always your daughter did you proud, a mention to Ray but did you get your coffee and cake at the end ?
Sadly we didn't get cake but we did get coffee. it was late in the day so we had to get coffee from the Spar shop in Hope, it was the Costa machine and it was the worst tasting coffee flavoured warm water i've had in a while :-) haha. the things we have to do to get our caffeine fix haha. Thanks for watching Jeff, ATB Dean
Hi again mate, do you or have you ever considered doing a podcast? Maybe talking about kit, your walks and things you've covered that month etc, you really know your stuff. Admittedly it's more work but you seem as media savvy as they come. Cheers John
+DCSabers Hi John. coincidentally, I have done a podcast in the past and recorded hundreds of hours of audio on a website called AudioBoom. If you head over to my PeakRoutes website you’ll find a dedicated podcast page for my “Peak Routes Podcast” that I made. I stopped doing as much audio about 5 years ago as I was concentrating more on video but all the content is still online. All the best Dean
Hi Dean, another cracking video taking in the beautiful scenery of the Peak District, it's definitely a perfect training ground for Amy to get fitness levels up for joining the Army. I spent 13 amazing years in the Army myself, such a fabulous lifestyle if you can adjust to it, so good on Amy for putting her all into it and I wish her all the best with it all. Have a wonderful time in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland, Slieve Donard is a lovely trek, my question is though, are you going to take the 8 miles circular walk around it or are you going to attempt the scramble over it ? If you go for the scramble over the top, as you approach the peak of the mountain you used to nearly be on your hands and knees scrambling over it, but that was back in the mid 1990's so there may well be a purpous built trek route over it now, either way you will love it up there. Silent Valley is definitely worth a look too as you will be in the near area and also Spelga Dam, there is a "Magic Hill" at Spelga Dam, if you drive your car down it and leave it in neutral with the handbrake off, the car will mysteriously roll back up the hill .. Enjoy! and look forward to seeing the video .. :-)
+ian warner Just seen your comment Ian, will have to remember that for the next time we go there. We had a fantastic time and we'll certainly be returning. My daughter did really well on Slieve Donard so I need to get her out again soon for another adventure :-) Thanks for watching
Thanks for that it looks a very nice couple of days out,I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms so welcome back ,we are going to Liam this week down the river to the turnpike and into thorp looking forward to it then up to mill Dale,is there a root back to ilam or will we have to walk back down the river path ,thanks I advance
Hi Sophie Thanks for watching. You can walk west over the top from Mill Dale to a village called Stanshope, you can then head south and walk down in to Manifold Dale and it will bring you back to Ilam. The fastest way though would be to walk back down the river fron Mill Dale, through Dovedale and back to Ilam. Hope you have a great time. All the best. Dean
have you ever came across a resavour that matches the good old ladybower +derwent? and i think a uk walking magazine should sponsor you. You should have way more then 8k followers its the best content on the Internet .
I don't think I have come across a reservoir or lake that I prefer, Ladybower and the Derwent valley feel like home to me :-) Dove Lake in Tasmania was absolutely spectacular though. I'd not noticed until I logged on to upload this video that i'd passed the 8K mark, really appreciate the support from all who watch and comment. If there are any magazines or companies out there that fancy sponsoring me i'd be happy to quit my dead end job that includes night shifts to walk full time and make videos :-) haha. ATB Dean
Great Video Dean, good to see you out and about again, very informative, fantastic news to hear that Amy is joining the Army, I completed 22yrs,she couldn't have picked a better career! she will love it, I wish her all the success for her basic, glad to see her putting in some preparation, Ive sub, check out my channel ATB Glen
Thanks for watching Glen, i'm hoping Amy will get in the army and love it. She is showing dedication with the fitness and she is even kicking my backside now which is a complete turn around from 5-6 months ago :-) haha. ATB Dean
Good job Dean #second
+HayDos Adventures Thanks for watching Hayden, hope you and your family are ok. I'm missing Tasmania :-) haha
Also..your daughter should go for Navy instead...no bias or anything :P
Haha My daughter was in the Air Cadets but now wants to Join the Army :-)
