    Death Note (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2003 to May 2006, with its 108 chapters collected in 12 tankōbon volumes. The story follows Light Yagami, a teen genius who discovers a mysterious notebook: the "Death Note", which belonged to the shinigami Ryuk, and grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages. The series centers around Light's subsequent attempts to use the Death Note to carry out a worldwide massacre of individuals whom he deems immoral and to create a crime-free society, using the alias of a god-like vigilante named "Kira", and the subsequent efforts of an elite Japanese police task force, led by enigmatic detective L, to apprehend him.
    A 37-episode anime television series adaptation, produced by Madhouse and directed by Tetsurō Araki, was broadcast on Nippon Television from October 2006 to June 2007. A light novel based on the series, written by Nisio Isin, was also released in 2006. Additionally, various video games have been published by Konami for the Nintendo DS. The series was adapted into three live action films released in Japan in June, November 2006, and February 2008, and a television drama in 2015. A miniseries titled Death Note: New Generation and a fourth film were released in 2016. An American film adaptation was released exclusively on Netflix in August 2017 and a sequel is reportedly in the works.
    Death Note media, except for video games and soundtracks, is licensed and released in North America by Viz Media. The episodes from the anime first appeared in North America as downloadable from IGN before Viz Media licensed it. The series was aired on YTV's Bionix programming block in Canada and on Adult Swim in the United States with a DVD release following. The live-action films briefly played in certain North American theaters, in 2008, before receiving home video releases. As of April 2015, the Death Note manga had over 30 million copies in circulation, making it one of the best-selling manga series.

    I see One Punch Man, Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man and Battle Angel: Alita on the shelf there so I have nothing else to recommend. They are some great books to check out and I hope you like them too. I am a huge fan of world building and establishing the rules of the universes that they are set in and I think that is one thing that manga does really well.

    makes me wish Baki the Grappler had an official english release since the artwork is awesome and itagaki's understanding of motion is great but since it's hard to read it's always seen as that manga about the action figure looking people fighting

    Dude, it makes me so happy to hear you talk about this. For a long while I’ve also been noticing a decline in western comics as well. I’ve probably been into manga since I was in elementary school. I never even really compared manga to western comics back then because reading manga gave me joy and excitement while comics seemed like a chore to get through..save for a few here and there that impressed me. Every time I decide to check anything out from dc or marvel it just seems like the writers don’t care about good story telling anymore.
    I think the first manga I ever read was something called dragon drive from shonen jump, but ever since then I’ve been hooked and finding out what exactly my own tastes are. Definitely love the art and grimdark story of Berzerk. I also recently I found two other fantasy centered ones called “The wolf never sleeps” and “The old knight on the Frontier:Bard Loen”. Both are really incredibly good reads if anybody cares to check them out. I like the artwork in those ones too.

      100%. The amount of Marvel stories that end with the power of friendship and cupcakes defeating a non-threat is beyond cringe. I buy old Conan Omnibuses and they odd GN here and there, but it's really rare. I know there's good stuff everywhere but it's very few and far between. The people cast to write for these books are mediocre at best and almost have contempt for the medium and audience. It's european stuff and manga now for the most part.

    If I can recommend you something, from an artistic point of view, the evolution of the art in Berserk is amazing to see as you read the chapters. Another one is Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue, It has an ridiculous draftsmanship level. These are definetly my top 2 goat manga, both story and the drawings are legendary!

    For me personally death Note is a good manga but I'm not a big fan of it I respect it a lot for what is able to accomplish for as many chapters it has cuz it really does push the boundaries of what its able to achieve for the top story
    I would definitely love to see you manga read like ( now when I'm suggesting these particular ones you probably have read them I don't know I just started watching your channel so I really don't know like if you have ready so I'm just throwing them out there I apologize ) berserk, vagabond, blade of the immortal, gantz and claymore just you know just for you to see if you like those

      @@Steininger_Art I'd just start with Case Files 01 with skinny Dredd. The stark visuals and facial expressions are great. Some real density to some of the scenes as well. Really nice varied panel layouts. The stories are hilarious too, it's like a Paul Verhoeven or Schwarzenegger film at times with how absurd it can be.

    I have more or less never been a fan of manga, but at this moment I am following three of them. Apart from Dragonball in my teens, the three mangas I have actually liked are Spy X Family, Goblin Slayer and especially One Punch Man. I do believe that you mr Steiniger would love the design, direction and pure spectacles that the OPM manga gives, just take a look at the Cosmic Garou vs Saitama battle.

    • @Steininger_Art

      Was looking for Goblin Slayer but could never find #1. Spy X Family looks cool too.

    • @MajorGore
      @MajorGore Před rokem

      @@Steininger_Art If you want to know about goblin slayer, see the anime, it's basically the same experience. If you want something more intense in the goblin slayer universe, read year one, it is amazing, more visceral and an actual vulnerable protagonist in an unforgiving world. I have heard a lot of comparisons to Berserk when discussing Goblin Slayer with other reader. Having only read one book and some of the wikia pages I have come to the conclusion that Berserk is more dark than Goblin Slayer but it's a bit too dark in my opinion. The pain and suffering that Guts experience is way worse than that Goblin Slayer gets. For Goblin Slayer every road feels like it will end with a light at the end of the tunnel. For Guts, that end will only lead to another abyss as he walks a road of torment. So they are different stories with Goblin Slayer taking a lot of inspiration from Berserk.
