@@Realkeepa The plaster hardens. Even if it cracks, it is still way heavier and harder than the cotton wraps. It would effectively feel like being punched with a few ounces of concrete.
Billy Collins Jr was a tough tough man to take such a beating bare knuckle for all those rounds. I believe with that kind of chin and talent he would have been more than just a serious contender, a lot more.

I commented this on a video dedicated to the Resto/Collins scandal, but I'll say it here too.
In a fair world, the name "Irish" Billy Collins would've been heralded as one of the great champs of the sport. For his future to be so shamelessly ripped from him in the way Luis and Panama did was a grave travesty. I hope that in the next life, he shares a seat amongst the greats at their table.

Joe Bugner, known as Aussie Joe, was often derided for not having a big punch for such a big skilful boxer. Few know that early in his career one of his opponents died after the fight. Joe had the big punch, but he never again used his full power.

As a fan I watched live when Resto and Collins fought. And was perceptive enough to be puzzled as to why Resto's punches seemed so much more damaging than Collins
And I watched Ray Mancini beat to death his opponent.
At that time I was a fighter and yes, it affected my next fight as the ref gave me a quick standing 8 count for a couple light blows

Yeah when you get a sudden 'feeling' its your body trying to warn you. We are sensitive to things that we have forgotten how to perceive, but it still comes through sometimes in the most extreme situations or in our dreams etc. The knowledge of this type of "6th sense" has been purposely destroyed and hidden away, people are much much easier to control in the masses that way.

When Leonardwas given the decision over Hagler I threw my hands up in the air and quit watching boxing. Just too many bad decision. When Tyson replaced Kevin Rooney as his trained as required by Don King he got rid of the best trainer in boxing, lost to Buster Douglas and destroyed his career.

Edwin Valero walked to the front of his hotel and told them his wife was dead pretty sure he stabbed her if i remember right I've never heard this version of the story
Actually, pretty poor that the focus is on losing an exciting fighter, rather than the murdering animal he was. His wife had already suffered a collapsed lung and been hospitalised from one of his rampages before he took a knife to her.

Should have mentioned James Butler who sucker punched his opponent when he went to shake his hand at the end of the fight. After being released from prison boxing commentator Max Kellerman's brother decided to house and help him and was rewarded by being beaten to death with a hammer.

I always forget how to spell his name but what happened to Valero was so sad. It was obviously a setup. Valero had a good heart and was at one time becoming the best in the world.
Was training at the Grand Olympic boxing club when he was there. Dude was a killer. Would’ve taken Manny out. I’ve watched both spar several times. Valeros timing was phenomenal.

I wanna look further into Valero's record. Never heard of him, but 27-0 (27 KO's) is one hell of a resume.

Everyone knows about the 2 fights between Ali/Liston. Some still argue that the 2nd fight was legitimate. It wasn't, even a casual fan knows better. The controversy began regarding whether or not the punch landed that floored Liston. After a replay proved it did land, many people went from doubt about the punch landing to believing it was a real fight. The truth is that the punch landed but it could never have knocked Liston down. He was hit by bombs to the face from a young Cleveland Williams and he went nowhere. He had a bloody nose proving he was hit hard, but he walked thru those bombs and KO'D Williams in 3 rounds, then in 2 rounds in the rematch. Ali fans say that Liston went down from the punch and stayed down to avoid another beating like he took in the first fight. That's absurd, the light tap wouldn't have put Liston down and Liston had no reason to ' fear another beating' because their first fight was also fixed.
Most don't believe that the 1st fight was fixed but they're wrong. An astute fan can plainly see Liston punching too late, pulling punches, holding wide open shots to the head, throwing a high number of body shots that can easily be held without scrutiny. In the 3rd round alone Liston started his right hand forward on 2 separate occasions, then held it back, switching to a light body shot each time. He had Ali cornered in that round but let him walk out. He held back an overhand right when Ali was wide open, dropping the punch softly as if a parachute was on his arm. Once Ali bent over at the waist in front of Liston, using both gloves to cover the side of his head. Ali didn't try to move, he resigned himself to being hit hard. Liston towered over him, but he never threw a power shot. Instead, he threw a soft body shot. These examples all took place in the 3rd round. The same thing played out in the other rounds.
Proof of sorts can be seen in the last round before Sonny quit. No fighter has ever surrendered a world title sitting on his chair in the corner, it's important to know that. A tough guy like Liston was the last man that would have done that, unless there were unknown circumstances. Watch the last 45 seconds of the last round in their first fight. Ali is not being aggressive; he's not pressuring Liston at all. Liston threw 6 punches in those last 45 seconds. He threw 5 jabs and one left hook, all with his left hand. The round ended and within a few seconds Liston had decided that he was going to quit. The question is; why would a man with a shoulder injury so bad that it forced him to give up the championship that he chased for several years, throw 6 punches all with his left when he had no reason to throw any punches with his left in the last 45 seconds of the last round? There's no answer to that question, a badly hurt/damaged shoulder would prevent any fighter from using it if he could avoid using it. Liston used it freely throwing 6 punches, including a big left hook, then within seconds he quit. He never showed any discomfort in that shoulder at any time during the fight.
There's other evidence as well. The FBI watched boxing closely in those days because cheating was rampant. Agents were assigned to the first Ali/Liston fight in Miami, 1964. The result of their investigation wasn't known until the Washington Post issued a FOIA request only about 10 years ago. They obtained the resulting FBI report. It said that they believed unanimously that the fight was fixed but couldn't bring charges because of a lack of hard evidence. There's more evidence to indicate a fix but I won't go into it.
The fixed fights you don't know about; Ali had one more fixed fight. It was against Zora Folley and was the last fight before his forced retirement/suspension. I knew something was wrong after watching a few rounds. They circled each other too passively, neither seemed interested in punching. When they did punch it seemed controlled. At one point they were so close they almost rubbed against each other, yet neither threw a punch. Ali threw a right hand that hit Folley, then another that either barely grazed or completely missed. Folley hesitated after the first right, then went down after the 2nd right even though it didn't land. He ' caught' himself to break his fall as he landed on the mat. Then he lay flat and didn't move. At about 6 he jumped to a squatting position, whirled around to look at his trainer, then quickly jumped to his feet at the count of 8/9. It was as if he needed his trainer to tell him to get up.
The next round Folley went down again. When he tried to get up he did a strange tumbling act all the way across the ring to a corner, then stood up. By then the referee had counted him out. He stood motionless staring at the referee, not complaining at all, just staring at him, then looking at his corner as if unsure what to do next. Neither of the punches that put him down were hard enough to knock down a good HW fighter. Look at the first knockdown, you'll see a right hand followed by another right hand. Neither was a hard shot and Folley went down after the 2nd punch, a punch that either missed or barely grazed his cheek. Watch in slow motion and you'll see the 2nd punch did not land, or not solidly for sure.
For me what happened right after the fight was the most telling aspect. Ali quickly went over to Folley and put his arm around Folley's neck. He walked Folley to the ropes and stayed right there for longer than you would expect. Finally, he let go of Folley and Zora disappeared from the ring in the blink of an eye. He wasn't hurt so why was there no interview in the ring, which is mandatory I believe? Nobody said a word to Folley, not even his own people. Ali was ' guarding' him from everyone. Why? Because the fight was fixed and it was feared that Folley, a soft- spoken guy not interviewed very often, might say something wrong and 'spill the beans'.
There has to be a reason if a fight was fixed. Ali fans will say there was no reason, that Ali would have beaten Folley easily. They're not taking into account what was at stake, however. Ali knew this was his last fight before suspension, that was a fact. It wasn't known if he would ever be allowed to fight again, that's also a fact. If Ali had a chance to fight again, he would need all the leverage he could get to bargain with. That leverage depended upon one thing; Ali had to remain an undefeated champion of the world, only dethroned by circumstances. Let's say that Ali lost his last fight to Folley. What leverage would he have as a once-beaten ex-champion? Very little. The leverage depended upon him remaining undefeated and remaining the 'peoples champion'. The people, at some point, would likely insist that he be allowed to fight again to prove if he's still the unbeatable champ,..........or not.
It boiled down to that there was too much to risk. Ali's die-hard fans think he would have beaten Folley easily, therefore no reason to fix the fight. I say nonsense, Folley was 79-6 at the time, had won 10 fights in a row, 4 of those against tough opponents. He had been ranked in the top 3 or 4 for a decade and he had a decent punch. It was no sure thing that Ali could beat Folley, not with so much at stake especially. Ali would have been the favorite of course and probably would have won but he needed more than that. He needed a guaranteed win, and there's only one way to get that.
Ali wasn't going to be himself either, if you think about it. His suspension was hanging over his head, his boxing career was in jeopardy, he was even being threatened with time in prison. Any man would have difficulty training hard and difficulty concentrating during the fight with these things on his mind. It made good sense to fix the fight and since Folley was willing and probably paid a handsome bonus to go along, they did indeed fix the fight. It guaranteed that Ali maintained the leverage he would need if he was ever going to fight again. There was a lot at risk. Ali needed a sure thing so he chose not to take that risk....................
Tyson had many fixed fights but this is already too long so I'll spare you those stories. I'll only say it's very interesting how Tyson's fights with Holyfield had something to do with fixed fights, and it all makes perfect sense. I'll make another post re: Tyson's fixed fights.

The resto story is so sad . HBO did a terrific documentary about it . It was so obvious Panama masterminded the entire thing and he went on with his life and career while luis was derailed .in the documentary luis goes to Miami to speak to Panama this was about a year before Panama died and he asked him just be honest and just admit the truth just so Louie would have peace of mind and the world would know. Statue of limitations were over so he wouldn't of even got in trouble for admitting it but Panama still denied it. He was manipulating luis by telling him he would get him a job and saying he's like a son to him

If someone in the boxing world says something positive about Don King, they would probably be black balled.
