I grew up in the Appalachian mts of West Virginia. All throughout the 70s l was growing up in a little mountain community called Jolo. Near a small town called Bradshaw. Deep in the mountains of McDowell County WVa. When I was around 10 or 12 years old, I remember there was a snake handling church down by the creek near a place called 3 forks. My friends and I would hide in the edge of the woods across the road and watch in the summer when the doors and windows were open. They would play music and dance with those snakes just like the video. When I saw this it brought back a lot of childhood memories. If I didn't know what I do about this being very real, I would say the snakes were fixed surgically, but their not. I saw with my own eyes live. They milked the snakes and drank the poison to build up immunity so the bites were ineffective. TRUE STORY

I'm from the south and in our church we offer thanks to God for giving us enough common sense to leave venomous snakes and angry women alone. I'm a firefighter and God protects us by providing good training and equipment and the common sense to use it. If I run into a fire without those, that's not the sacred act of a believer, it's careless stupidity by an idiot. But, to each his own.

Got invited to one of the churches a long time ago. Wasn't told what kind of church it was. When the brought the snakes out, the young lady I was with screamed, "DO YOU FEEL IT?" I don't believe in offending creatures of life. It's written in the Bible not to offend, the snake was offended and struck back. The scripture refers to those that unknowingly interact with poisonous snakes in the wilderness and you accidently come upon them. They don't bite to consume but protect themselves. These snakes are made and give you ultimately more venum as they become stirred up.
You put two actions together and 100% believe they are related when they may not be. Perhaps his faith was to be with God and his heart had been failing over recent years, he had become a prime candidate for a heart attack

There are two differences, though-1:We had between 400-500 people attending our Church on Sunday Morning, Sunday Night, Tuesday Night, and Friday Night. We had Prayer Services, too, where probably about 20-25 or so came out to pray, and get ahold of God, on Thursday Morning, and again on Saturday Night. No music was played at those Prayer Services, but The Lord was there! We had a lot of great times in the Lord!
2:No. We didn't handle Snakes, we didn't play with Fire, and we didn't drink Poison. We just got together, worshipped God, and let him take over the Service. Plenty of times, we'd go to Church at this Church, we'd start the Service at 700 on Sunday Night, and 7:30 during the Tuesday Night, and the Friday Night, Services...and there were times, when we didn't get out of Church, until 10:00 to 10:30 that night...and there may have been a few times, when we went slightly longer than that!
As you can tell:We enjoyed ourselves!
I sure do miss those days...but one sweet day, I plan on going home to be with Jesus, up in Heaven. Time will be no more, and we'll be rejoicing, while the ages roll on, forevermore!!!

My Aunt's family was in a snake handling Church. I told her the only way I handle snakes is with a 12 gauge. She didn't invite me to church.
Kesley, your response to your aunt was pithy, but really the snakes aren't evil. They don't want to bite us. Like every other animal, they're afraid of humans, and with good reason. (They could be blown to bits by a 12-gauge.) All we need to do is (a) leave the snakes alone and (b) should they invade our homes or property, have a good (not necessarily religious) snake handler move them to a safer place where they can live out their little lives.

But living in Malaysia was different. I lived in a nice house with a lovely old amah (maid), thanks to a British Council guy, who rented out a couple of rooms to me. While I was on vacation, a cobra got in the house. A neighbor came over and killed it. A normal reaction there, unfortunately.

I've followed Christ for nearly 35 years and had fellowship with believers of a sound mind, and this kind of behavior is anomalous and unrelated to the Spirit of Christ. Katrina ("Trina") Coots, the pastor's daughter, is the one playing the keyboard and singing. She was killed in a car wreck in 2017. She was able to just walk up and play the piano when she was a little girl, no lessons needed. RIP, Trina.

I just happened to find this story online and this video was in it. I think all these folks also use Paul's being bitten by a snake. But what these people fail to realise is that Paul didn't deliberately pick up a snake to be bitten, so that God could be tested.

Paul accidentally got bit while collecting wood for a fire, he didn't intentionally pick up the viper or adder. To me that is tempting God and I think it is wrong. The commission of Jesus Christ is to "Spread the Gospel" not hold venomous snakes.
