      Freddiephiles are so obnoxious. And FYI Roger and Brian disagree with you ON THE SINGING QUESTION. For them it's ADAM, ALWAYS ADAM. Especially considering Freddie disrespected and destroyed his voice very early on and was unable to EVER do the extensive difficult performances that Lambert does hundreds of times in a row. OR doing 100 takes for one line in a studio album. But have fun pretending he seriously cared about his "VOCALS" in those shows lmfao.

    Much of Marc's "sounds like Freddy" is just a happenstance of physiology. It wasn't til after years of hearing folks say "wow, you sound like Freddy Mercury" that he even started to listen to Queen. He's a natural mimic...he "does" a lot of other singers very well. But after being chosen to front the Queen tribute band, he naturally made the distince effort to sound like Freddy as much as possible :) To hear more of his "own" voice, you might want to do a comparison with his and Tom Waits version of "Take it With Me" Just a thought :) Marc is almost exclusively self taught...by listening to the radio, picking out bits he liked and trying to figure out how to do it.

      I always find it amusing how many comments on Marc's "non Queen" covers still say he sounds like Freddie. Marc has a great ear for finding similar phrasing and styles to replicate instrumentation and vocals. "Playing by ear" as a method of learning singing and playing instruments (as opposed to classical training) doesn't seem to be recognized as much as it once was. That's a talent/skill on its own right.

    I just love how this series has made Sam sing a lot more along with the songs... So good!
    Freddie's instrument was one of a kind... Adam make a good job not trying to initiate it, by taking the song to hinself and giving a new seasoning to it... Marc also make a good job by trying to imitate Freddie, for that's his goal: to reproduce the song... As Sam always says, we all have just different instruments and good or better is all about our goal while singing...

I had never heard of these guys and one day, they happened to be the "praise band" at the church I'd been attending, playing a few of their own songs. Apparently, they would do that, go on a tour of bigger churches in the northwest US and play a regular show in the evening at the same place.

    It'd be really cool to see you analyze Marc Martel singing Nessun Dorma. I think he achieves a pretty decent classical sound for someone who doesn't primarily sing classical music, and it'd be nice to have your input, since you have a more formal classical background.

    • @ZENOBlAmusic
      @ZENOBlAmusic Před 3 lety +1

      The problem with Marc's Nessun Dorma is that he is copying Pavarotti. People who don't listen to opera don't realize, that Pavarotti actually performs Nessun Dorma in a subpar manner. Nessun Dorma was a role written for a dramatic or spinto tenor, the highest note only goes to B4, because the song is about power. Pavarotti was a lyric tenor who became a bit tired of the youthful highly romantic roles you find within the lyric tenor fach. The roles for dramatic tenors are generally more mature and powerful. Pavarotti pushed himself into these roles. This is not Marc's fault, but like Pavarotti he also just a lyric tenor, that should likely just stay away from Nessun Dorma. Compare Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma against a real dramatic spinto tenor:
      Pavarotti (no offence against Pavarotti he was a great lyric tenor but not suited for heavy roles):

    • @bharp4390
      @bharp4390 Před 3 lety +3

      @@ZENOBlAmusic Yes, I am aware that the role of Calaf is better-suited for heavier tenor voices. In the case of Marc Martel, though, I'm not really worried about that. Marc Martel performed the song in the privacy of his own home, not in an opera house, so fach is irrelevant. and I am more interested in the modifications he makes in his own vocal mechanism when he's singing more classically-oriented songs.

    • @bharp4390
      @bharp4390 Před 3 lety +3

    I have gotten to see both Marc Martel w/ Black Jacket Symphony and Adam Lambert w/ Queen in concert and they are both amazing! Freddie was the one who set the standard obviously and I was never able to see him. However, my opinion is that Adam is one hell of a showman and tells you he's never going to be Feddie f'n Mercury. He has amazing technique and knows how to play his audience like a fine tuned violin. The end of his somebody to love in Nashville was some sort of breath control sorcery. Marc is phenomenal and has amazing presence but he's definitely more of a mimic and that was him the entire concert. He doesn't have the same stage presence or fine tuned artistry.

    • @papabearM3
      @papabearM3 Před 3 lety +3

      Oh, Angela! What artistry are we talking about here? Adam holding one note for 15 seconds? LOL You are easily impressed! I also have seen both Marc and Adam live multiple times. Marc is a fully-fledged musician who is busy creating music on stage live, Adam struts around , grabs his crotch and wails. Marc all the way! Again and again! He lacks absolutely nothing! The man is an astounding singer and musician! Who cares if he peacocks around batting his eyelashes!

    Freddie's voice is like a brass instrument; bell-like and resonant. The other two are like a woodwind instrument; reedy and piercing. Both Marc and Adam are brilliant but, Freddie is a rare cut above the rest. Great vid!

    I love listening to the original Queen recordings and live concerts and I also love Queen + Adam Lambert. Honestly I really like the way Adam performs the Queen songs. On STL and KQ Adam has turned them into awesomely fun songs to watch and listen to. On WWTLF and TSMGO Adam has turned them into masterclass performances. I think it is incredible that one band has been lucky enough to have two amazingly talented frontmen. Freddie who helped create a timeless catalog of music that has influenced multiple generations, and Adam who has helped keep Queen as one of the best live performance bands in the world.

    Possibly a "just me" thing, but I have trouble holding the sound and visuals from the first singer in my mind by the time we get to the third. So I think I prefer two-singer contrasts over three.
    I saw a lot of forward jaw in the guy whose tongue-out position you commented upon. Do those go together? I thought lower jaw thrust was potentially problematic and was surprised when you appreciated the tongue forward.
    You generate a lot of content, and since I quite like the vocal analysis details and don't much care about historical detail I like your model where you don't always know things.
    I think I may be a jaw mover, and not doing it is hard--I feel like it helps me reduce the extra throat squeezing extrinsic muscles by doing the jaw thing, but I don't know if it's a real benefit or just a coping crutch.
