Whopper Plopper Review and Hack

  • Whopper Ploppers have been around for a while and I have never fished with a whopper plopper but I have been curious. Here I review the whopper plopper, and I do it, the way an engineer would review and evaluate any machine. I’ll give you a good look at the lure, give you my immediate impressions then test out those impressions on the water. Then I do a bit of a hack and I think I actually make the lure a little bit better. And, no lure review would be complete without hooking into a fish.

    Another GREAT video !!!
    I was wondering if you would make a video on how to make your wire bending tool that you designed

    I'd love to see how you approach making a popper with a cupped face - maybe an angled face?
    I'm just beginning on my lure making adventures. I used your aluminium tape method to make the scale pattern. I used with shears rather than the scalloped ones you had. I still worked really well! Thanks for the idea.

      So happy to hear your getting something you can use from my videos. You should check out the videos of the lure I make on the lathe they might give you some ideas you can use. Keep making-n-um....

    Damn... another one with audio issues? After your intro (0:21) until the music at 9:42, the video is completely silent for me....
    Been binging your content for the past couple weeks and love your videos and the approach you take with your explanations and planning. Thanks!

      I don't see that issue when I play it. Here's an experiment, turn on the closed caption and if you see the text of the dialog during the time it's silent, then the issue is on your end. Otherwise I'm stumped. Good luck and sorry you are having problems with my videos.

      It's silent for me too.

    Since there is only one propeller blade, the tension is released, so the lure nose is not being forced down continuously.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  Před 5 lety

      You're right not continuously but the propeller spins fast enough to cause it to nose down. I think that their longer lures probably don't have this problem. But I'm not going to go spend $16 to find out. Thanks for the input.

      @@EngineeredAngler It definitely noses down, but that is what I take advantage of. I use a stop and go retrieve, with an occasional jerk of the rod. The jerk causes the lure to dive, just a bit, then rise to the surface. This is a great way to fish this slowly around structure. There are propeller lures that have the angled nose, and those ride the surface well. Just going on my own fishing experience here. Love your videos.

      Your totally right...I really wasn't saying the lure didn't work just showing simple ways to change the behavior

    Use braid. Line won’t go under

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  Před 4 lety

      I do use braid...the line really doesn't have to sink. With long casts, just having the line on the water is enough to pull the nose down. Of course if you lift your rod tip high, you can avoid it most of the time.

  • @gagamisko5186

    Most people use braid line so don't sink

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  Před 5 lety +1

      I was using braid...and a mono leader that floats...still dips down unless you hold your rod tip really high.

      @shc249 Před 4 lety +1

      @@EngineeredAngler Hold it high. Roland is a big fan of holding the rod high and he kills fish.

      In a kayak it gets tough. That's how I noticed it dips under water on long casts.
