Dentistry is the biggest money racket in the U.S. all dentists are extortionists i think it is completely rediculous how much it costs and that there is no kind of government funding for it for people who need it and qualify becus it is a health hazzard and risk it is one of if not the most painful thing a person could experience and go thru, there should be some kind of funding for U.S. citizens for dental period point blank!

Totally agree.Dentistry is a rip-off, but unfortunately we must pay through the nose (so to speak). I’ve made inquiries at Premera (my medical insurance carrier) and they won’t cover any dental work, unless of course I pay for a separate dental plan.
I currently have some insurance coverage via Dental Health Services, but they will only cover a portion of my extractions. My dentist referred me to an orthodontist for the dentures, but he’s not a part of the DentalHealth Service insurance plan. So, more money out of pocket and I’m retired and on a fixed income.
Having bad teeth is definitely a health issue and should be something covered under Medicare, Medicade or one of the private insurance companies. Dentistry costs remind me of what our pharmacies are doing to us.

Couldn't agree more! And the fact of having bad teeth causes other medical problems, which has been proven to be the case. With that in mind, you'd think the government put in place affordable dentistry. So they aren't spending even more money down the road for the medical implication that arise later in someone's health because of their dental problems. In other words they would actually be saving money. It something that is way overdue because it's obvious the dental profession prices won't be coming down any time soon.

I agree with your last 2 suggestions - cut spending and save money. Unfortunately, many people who "can't afford" dentistry are really people who don't want to pay for it. People have to look into their lives and eliminate things that cost money and give little benefit - like cigarettes, trips to the pub, and eating out. If you can afford to have take-out from Burger King on a regular basis, then you should be able to change your habits and put the same money into dental care.

I'm also taking lifetime low dose chemo, I take it daily and get an infusion every 8 weeks as well and my teeth are literally falling out of my mouth now. I'm so horrified and while I do have health insurance,, it does not cover any dental work at all. @knit44 Walmart brand coffee. Also, cases of coke cost like 5 and some change, whereas the supermarket brand is like 2 and some change, or something like that. If you buy bottled water, start distilling your own water and using a reusable bottle. If you spend $60 in gas weekly- try cutting back by about $10 and limiting travel by doing all of your errands on the same day, buying groceries for the week to limit your back and forth trips, etc. Little things will add up and make it easier on you.

Well here in North Texas there is a clinic that offers dental like extractions, fillings and I don't know what else. But I doubt dentures and they ask you to donate like $10-$15 or whatever you can afford. So you could do that and then go to affordable dentures and have it all done for under $1000. The clinic is called H.O.P.E. now I don't know if they have them everywhere or not. I believe if you work for the public you can call your local health dept. And they can help you with dentures and extractions. I have known of a couple people that has had it done. One worked at a grocery store and another at a gas station. Now I doubt you will get sedation but if your desperate it's something. I need it done but am deathly afraid of the dentist and can't afford it and want to be knocked smooth out to get all my teeth pulled. And I love food and don't want to be on a soup diet for months. You wouldn't think I would be afraid as I had 2-3 teeth pulled and a bridge place on the top front back in 2006 by a Mexican lady in a recliner at a house. But that probably isn't nowhere as bad as having 20+ teeth pulled at one time.

Most people don't realize too that if you're a self-pay patient (meaning you don't have dental insurance) you can negotiate with the office because basically if you have let's say Delta & the office is a participating practice they have to go by Delta's fees for each procedure. so say the doctor charges $1,000 for a root canal if they participate with Delta, Delta says we only pay $750 for that root canal. Then the office has to submit the claim to Delta and wait for the payment. So as a self-pay patient you can at least get them down to the fees that the insurance companies pay out, because they know they're going to get paid quicker and usually with less hassle. I hope that made sense! I know it can be a little bit confusing if you don't understand how dental Insurance works.
And just a sad FYI on the whole field dentistry and insurance the average benefit is $1,200 and it's been that since 1976!!! 😕
Your other option would be dental schools depending on where you live in the country. Usually the cost is around half of what it would be if you went to a regular practice. I know the thought of having students work on your teeth is a little scary but they are always supervised and they have to do the best job possible because if they don't they're not going to make it through school!
(I was dental assistant for 10/15 years and sadly I'm dealing with some pretty severe dental problems! So it can happen to anybody! Even those of us who are supposed to know better! I really wish there was a way to revamp the whole field so finances wouldn't be such a problem & a deterrent to dental care! It most definitely affects people not only physically but mentally!)

It cost $80 cash in the door then for and extraction another $90 not including if you need it cut or if it's hard to get out or if you need gas or anything. Also I went to have a bad tooth out a couple yrs ago and the kid seriously gave me like 22 xray. That's not exaggerating. I left after that and was sick for 4 months and my throat was so sore for so long. It was aweful I was so young I didn't know what was going on or if it was normal or what. I wish I'd been older and more knowledgeable then as i am now or id have stopped him or atleast made them pay for me a dr and make sure theres no damage done from the xrays. I know it may be hard decision to make, but it's a good option to go abroad to make dentures. In Europe prices are much, MUCH lower - from 500$ to 1200$ per denture, depending on what you prefer. Same with implants, there's a major difference in price, but no difference in quality.
The most expensive is the flight itself (~700-1500$, back and forth).
My family in US always do their dental work in Europe, but it's hard to make it that way if you have small kids etc.

Shoot I need a dr so bad it's not even funny. I can't even get a dr to see me to get me on blood pressure meds and my heart being so bad is 1 reason they deemed me disabled. Along with RA Lupus and fibro myalgia I'm in constant pain, my organs are getting damaged from the disease, and it causes teeth to go bad also. So any tips on getting this dental place your talking about to help in my situation would be great. I know some like medicaid won't even work with me bc I don't get a check which really makes no sense bc it's for poverty level people and I'm at $0 lol I think that's poverty level lol but who knows right lol. Anyway sorry for such a long message just wanted to give as much as I could to you since you've dealt with them and disability and might already know if it's useless for me to even call them at all with $0 income. Or if it matters to them an bc I am disabled if they would try help me anyway. Thank you for posting about them so people can get some help even if I can't though.

I spent over 20k in 10yrs on root canals and crowns which all started to fail in 2016 when I was 31 after moving from Florida to Kansas. January 2017 I had all my top teeth removed and all but 2 bottom teeth removed. Medicaid paid for the teeth removal and bottom partial. I went to Affordable Dentures and paid $1k using Care Credit for top tier Denture which included Temp Denture and 7yr warranty. I've lost a lot of bone and tissue on my upper almost 2yrs later, as when I sleep my two remaining teeth cause me to clench at night when both denture and partial removed. Both my grandma and mother have implants but they didn't need until in their 50s. I'm allergic to Denture Adhesive so implants are becoming a necessity. After getting several consults for implants I found Affordable Dentures and other places like Clear Choice should be avoided. Also do not get mini implants on the Upper as the bone is too soft and they will eventually fail. Every consult Implant Specialist advised me this. I ended up going to a consult with a local Dentist who works with an Oral Surgeon for Implants. My consult isn't until October 30th, 2018 with the Oral Surgeon to get the approval for the treatment plan. Both offices take Care Credit which I have but not enough credit to pay for the entire service. I learned about Green Sky which both offices take and was approved for 14k with fixed 14.99% APR paid over 80 months. The expected cost of 4 on 4 upper with the top of the line Denture and two lower Anchor implants to snap in my bottom partial securely is 10k to 14k. 4 on 4 is a non removed Denture that is screwed in to the implants and only taken off by dentist every so many months for special cleaning. Affordable Dentures treatment plan was only for 4 upper full implants in the front due to bone loss. They would modify my original top Denture to be a snap in but not removing the palate and it would still feel unsecure while eating because no support towards the back. I was told $5600 from them and quickly discussed with my family which we all agreed if I was going to be spending that much I should go all the way to what makes me healthiest and most confident. I plan on Vlogging my journey as well. I have my moms dental insurance statements from the same Oral Surgeon as the allowed amount they can charge her dental insurance and plan on using that when negotiating my treatment plan cost. Kansas is going to be different compared to other states so I highly recommend finding someone in your state with Dental Insurance if your Self pay so you can negotiate your cost down. Pricing of implants has been decreasing, more private dental insurances pay 50% cost of implants but Medicaid does not pay for anything except routine Adult Dental visits like cleaning, fillings X-rays and extractions in most States. Goodluck everyone and Thank you KalinJax for all your videos. I actually fly into Jacksonville often bc of my Custody battle for my son. My sons father and I lived in Jax together many years but I am orginally from Gainesville. Go Gators!

Another tip: dental school, if your state has one. Creighton dental school in Omaha NE is awesome and you don't have to be from Nebraska to go. You have to call to be put on a waiting list, it takes about 2 weeks, and then you have to go to have a few xrays taken to see if they will accept you, but if they do then you can get work done for super cheap. The only caveat: when you do go in for an appointment, it takes half a day, because they are students they do go a lot slower.

What sucked was you can't always schedule. some work on a walk in basis only. You could be there for hours. If you have poor insurance that doesn't cover some procedures or no insurance at all it's better than nothing.

In New Zealand there is a place called the peoples centre, and if you work with them then they can give you a quote for work and income. Work and income only provide $300nz per year for tooth problems but they can advance you a loan which you pay back at like $10 per week. My quote to have my teeth out and dentures is total $2500 (nz). I know this doesn't help anyone but people in NZ, but I figure if there is anyone from New Zealand its worth it to know this information :)

Even the worst-case scenario with lowest income can afford basic work like fillings, crowns and extractions in Bulgaria. We are poor country and everyone who works legal work have insurance for 2 filling and one extraction and as well this basic work do not cost that much . For instance one extraction cost 15-20 $ .If you can buy a cheap pants or shirt you can easily afford filling extraction. I am just angry to hear that there is suck cruel place. Иван Илиев I completely agree. I moved to a new state last June. I didn't understand why so many people were walking around with rotten teeth and some missing. Even Medicaid doesn't cover dental unless it's an emergency. so if your tooth is rotting out of your face, tough. The dentist won't take your insurance until it's a life threatening abscess. Disgusting! This is people's self worth and health on the line. I have insurance but it's crap. If I have a preexisting condition insurance doesn't cover it. I feel like it should be affordable or free. I've see people who were devastated they get turned away for care. They have to live and feel like crap because they can't afford 150-200 a tooth. that's a filling. Something needs to change.

The poor pay taxes and then get the shaft. We pay the highest amounts for health and dental, yet we can not afford to take advantage of using it, I pay $65 a month every month for dental, and one dentist will send you to a periodontist and he will send you to a orthodontist, next thing you know nothing is done and you have exhausted your lousy $1500 n insurance payments, might be better off keeping that $65 a month in the bank and pay cash to the stinking dentist.

I couldn't afford to fix my teeth so I went to Costa Rica and had them done. I was also able to keep most of my teeth whereas the U.S. dentists wanted to pull all my teeth and give me the All-On-4 solution. Surprisingly the dentist I went to in Costa Rica was way more experienced and had advanced CAD/CAM technology on site. In less than 2 weeks I got 8 implants, and had the rest of my teeth prepared for crowns and then several sets of temporaries were made. I also had bone grafts and PRP (plasma rich protein made from my own blood), and I chose I.V. sedation because I wanted to sleep through it all. I will have one more implant when i go back in 5-6 months for permanent crowns. I'm getting 24 zirconia crowns. No one should have all their teeth pulled to save money, which is what I was facing. So with all the airfare, hotels, rain forest tours, eating out, dental bills I am still paying less than 1/4 what I was quoted for only having my upper teeth done....and I get to keep most of my teeth (but they will have crowns). I stayed at the hotel above the clinic (Casa Marco.) The staff is English speaking and very helpful. I love being able to smile again and it will be even better with my permanent teeth.

in general, eastern europe, very good qulity, cheap prices. In Hungary they will do all 28 teeth, removal and implants with bridges for 12.000 usd. Only 1 implant is 600usd. If u live and work in Hungary u will pay 25usd automatically for the social insurance, and for that u can access all the healthcare. Ex: root canal treatment is free, or 60usd in private, surgical extraction are free for everyone, or 70usd in private , fillings are free or 25usd in private, implants are not free, its 600usd for one, huge discount though if u need many, crowns are not free, they are 80usd, general cleaning all ur teeth is free 2x a year or 40usd in private. It is worth to go in a hotel, or u can even rent a whole apartement, outside of the capital city u can rent one for 200usd/month, go in june-to august and u will have a hot sommer with all the open swimming pools too. 50.000usd for a feckin dentures.....omg, and they are not even really permanent and u need all the care every 4 months....? omg!!! u can have implants for way way cheaper, and they are for forever! and even if u started to loose bone they can fix it for just a bit more price. If u live in Hungary and u know the dentist for years they even do all the extraction and all ur 28 teeth implants for 8000usd!!!!

There are many dentists and post graduate doctors and dentist who were migrated to canada in the name of fsw. Many of them are just waiting to get into the workforce because of regulatory bodies. Even they cannot work and do some voluntary work in a healthy way by getting legally involved by Canadian health schemes. It is shameful for a citizen and residents of developed countries to be in a position of unable to avail treatments and just because of some lobby oriented regulatory boards.
Help those fsw to work for the people at least in a voluntary non profit way.

I went to some joker here in Amish County, Pa where I lived and he quoted me over 30 thousand dollars. Get the Hell out of here! If you are near Philly, go to Temple or U of Penn dental school. Or there is a clinic in Amish Country that does some work pretty cheap.

I struck out entirely. After watching your video today and going through all the comments I spent the day tracking down each lead. Dental charity, Dental lifeline network, need help paying bills dot com, ect and for one reason or another I didn't qualify. Some programs were available but in other states not Calif. one had a program here but was only available in one county. Seriously they only offer help in one county in the entire state of CA. If there are any other suggestions please let me know.

medcaid here in Texas, sends you to low dental work, at first I had to get my teeth dine from a plane crash, then I had gotten chaps then great dentist did my top dentures they were great ones, then my chaps came off after over the time frame he said, then I went to a quack, and wore badly made dentures for three yrs, three sets were made,I am on SSI now and I do not even have a car ,and now they sent me to a dentist that made me new dentures they are cheap and now I'm told I have no none left.Just saying it's not all it's cracked up to any good dentures. I feel really bad I can't eat and my mouth hurts ,just thought I would give you some input on the dentures made here for you in Texas.

There is this attitude in the US dental work, especially dentures is a cosmetic luxury, not a medical health need. Every kid who needs brace should be able to get them so using dental floss isn't a struggle My teeth ended up so tightly crowded even a dentist has to work to get floss in between them. AFAIK the ACA/Obamacare doesn't address dental care. In the event I live within a reasonable driving distance of the Canadian & Mexican borders I'd look into those countries for services. Either way it's a 24 hour plus drive for me & probably not practical in the long run, unless your hauling down a car load of family for dental work.

+LambsSlayDragons Can you tell me a bit more about this place in SC you mentioned? I'm in Gastonia, NC (15 miles outside of Charlotte). I have no insurance & no income at the moment. so "poor" as you stated. I suffer from Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS) & need extensive restoration due to the damage this disease has caused my teeth. I can't do dentures because of this disease either. I'm looking into implant surgery. I already have 1 implant from years ago. If you have anymore info on a place in reasonable driving distance that'd be great. Thx in advance.

Any updates on sextons clinic? It's hard to find reviews on it online and reviews are mixed to say the least, but people around here have gone there since I live an hour from the facility. Asking for my elderly mother

      Ashley,
Can I ask why you were unable to get dentures? I am asking because I have struggled with an eating disorder for years and have done extensive damage to my teeth! Now I’m looking into getting dentures and your comment is freaking me out!

It's so shady that Medicaid won't cover dental for adults and regular dental insurance caps out at 2K when dental health directly affects the rest of your body health.
