    The cigarette lighter plug is rated at 10 amps plenty for start up. I
    My diesel heater starts every time. I purchased from Amazon a 15 amp plug and I have the same Bluetti has you Ac 180. Most of the glo plugs take about 9 amps on start up. My start up is 120 watts
    watts. Starts right up. Make sure your plug wire is adequate Guage. To small will cause problems After start up it drops down to 35 watts on high setting. Lowest setting 7 watts. You could also have problems with the diesel heater itself but the cigarette lighter plug will handle it and it does have a built in circuit breaker on the side.

    Some of the newer portable power stations have a 20-amp Anderson DC output that is perfect for running one of these diesel heaters. As you saw, they draw 15 amps or more, while heating up the glow plug. We use one to keep my wife's she-shed toasty while she makes amazing stained glass art. :)

      I have the SS2 as well. It heats great. Only thing I don’t like is that if you accidentally spill fuel on the outside of the tank, you will smell it when it heats up as the intake for the air is inside the box. I’m trying to figure a way to seal the intake to the box to keep the smell out… otherwise it is great.

  • @bobbailey7024
    @bobbailey7024 Před 7 měsíci +1

    The variation in the wattage is probably in the inverter. The glow plug has a fixed minimum resistance which it should draw about 10amps at 12 Volts (120W) which increases, thus reducing the current, as the glow plug heats up. There's no way the current draw / wattage should vary like that in the glow plug. If you hang an ammeter in series with the power lead into the heater, that will tell you the current draw then multiply that by the voltage to get the watts.

  • @georgewacaser4559
    @georgewacaser4559 Před 7 měsíci +2

    This is an interesting experiment Brian. It may be educational to see what happens when the ambient temp is much lower. As you know, diesel is harder to vaporize at lower temps, as well as the fact the battery powersource becomes less efficient the colder it gets. The result might be the current draw being greater for a longer period ?

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  Před 7 měsíci +1

  • @retnav92
    @retnav92 Před 7 měsíci +1

    A bit confused. I've watched numerous YT videos of folks using the diesel heaters for camping, and this is a first concerning the additional piece you're showing. Just recently bought a Vevor 8w vertical model diesel heater, but have yet to test it. Won't be using it until late March/early Spring chilly nights next season (2024). My plan is to simultaneously heat a Hiker Trailer and a roof top tent, via a wye connector hooked to hoses. Power source will either be EF Delta 2, or a Jackery 1500. Maybe I need to run a test way before next season. 🤔

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  Před 7 měsíci

      All depends on your heater really. I’ve seen some people able to use the 10amp cigarette 12v output on a power station and it starts the heater fine. I’ve also seen (and in my case) my heater pulls way more than 10amps and it trips out the power station. Probably a 2kw or a 5kw heater would maybe be fine, but as tested, this heater got up to around a max of 250 watts being pulled to get the blowing warm.

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors

      Yeah, that’s the smoke generated from the diesel heater after it shut down due to the battery tripping off. It was coming out of the air intake which was near that fan. The only issue with the converter is that it drains the power station too fast. I have an ecoflow river 2 pro and it can barely handle one night with this burner. After the ignition the consumption is about 25- 35 watts. With my older 5kw burner the consumption after the ignition was 10watts.
