Why did nukeproof stop selling bikes in the states?
@@jimmysavage258 Hate to break it to you, they are out of business
Blake from GMBN approves
Although they're sponsored now, he's ridden a nukeproof ht before nukeproof scouts got popular. I take what Blake says, at least about this bike, with a little less grain of salt.
Well he has a few bikes from their sponsors yet he rides the scout most of the time. That says something
all the gmbn guys ride nukeproof because they get them for free.
This message is sponsored
@@brian6speedthey get every bike they want for free
A big factor on how smooth a hardtail feels on the trail is the location of your neutral center of gravity. Imagine your shoulders and two wheels forming a triangle. The more your torso is centered in the triangle the more balanced the bike will feel. If your weight is prioritized to the back of the bike the ride will feel harsh and the bike will feel stiffer. Geometry is only one variable in a long list of variables.
Bro his chunk was literally a flow trail where I’m from
@@keatonverswi Too bad he ain't in Moab anymore. I ride on the east coast of Canada... all we have is old school XC trails, very narrow with lots of wet roots and rocks.
Having owned the previous scout, the thing that makes the scout work so good is the synergy of all the numbers. They made it a bike that is very good all arounder vs a bike that would lean towards one particular type of discipline.
I am really loving this series, the amount of effort you put in is crazy! Would love to see the Marin San Quinton👍
Love this new search! I myself started on the same quest 9 months ago, and after several fails, I ended up with a Norco Fluid HT, and couldn't be happier! Full disclosure, I have rebuilt almost all of it with my favorite parts, but, the frame is outstanding! It's like a BMX bike for big kids.
Love this series! As a hardtail enthusiast it's great to see!
You should give the Canyon Stoic a try, i think it should be comparable to that 2023 ragley
It would be nice if canyon sold just their frames.
I rode a Stoic for a year and loved it. I'm a little sad I sold it to buy a full sus. I might go buy it again when it comes on sale
I agree to this, especially when seeing the Ragley being a very close competitor in bang-for-the-buck (at least European side) - the Trek is on another price level.
fr, stoic frame is really close to nukeproof one
I love the format and how you do the split screen for promotional items. I’m a big hardtail fan as well.
Agree with everything. I am on my second Scout and been riding the elite spec lately. Such a fun and capable hardtail! Rode this beast out in Western Colorado and Moab and it handled the chunk like a dream! Pleasantly surprised by the specced rhythm fork on the elite spec. Only change I did was the hub 18T to 52T upgrade. Highly recommend this bike!
I'd been really looking forward to this one, been riding a Scout for about a year now and I love it. It always feels so capable that I can just focus on improving me. Would highly recommend putting some 2.6" tyres on it for an even smoother ride. I wouldn't ride a hardtail on anything less now.
Just recently (for this season) made a similar build with slight overfork (Pike 150mm), love it. The most I love - it does excuse many small stearing mistakes, and because of quite short chainstay it is easy to control bike...
When you were doing hardtail quest i was hoping that you were gonna do a nukeproof scout.
I was actually planning on getting the scout because i heard it was an awesome bike.
Canyon also made a new Hardtail (Stoic). Looks decent.
Some of the manufacturers list hardtail geometry at sag so it’s more comparable to full suspension geometry. They don’t necessarily tell you they’re doing this and it makes it difficult to compare hardtail geo on paper.
True. And sag, there fore head angle, changes depending on fork travel. And these bikes can run from 120 to 160 forks.
Nukeproof specifies both sagged and non sagged geos.
Thanks for the video on Scout. One thing I feel that needs to be mentioned is that Nukeproof does sell many of their bikes as frame only models.(Only the Mega Watt and Reactor are not currently available as frame only) The Scout is available at $499.00 so they are INCREDIBLY affordable as a frame only option. So if you already have some great components. You can save a HUGE amount of money buying just the frame only and assembling the bike with your components.
So happy I got a 275 frame right before the usa site shut down. My Scout is just about finished, took my time since it was winter when I received it.
@@mikeburgh3956 That's good luck indeed.
Is so nice to see how this series engages and motivates. 👍🏻❤️
Awesome vid as always! Your killing it dude.
I think RAD (ride area distance, it's the distance between your bb and the immaginato line that connects the centre of your grips) is the most important measurement in sizing a mtb, I had my custom steel HT with super modern geo and a reach of 520 with a 665 stack, and a RAD of 860mm. I now got an old banshee scythe with a reach of about 390 and a RAD of about 740mm (by the way I'm 188cm). I measured my ideal rad (distance between the floor and your fists what having your arms pointed straight to the floor) and it ended up being 750mm, from that i could confirm what I felt on the trail and bike parks, with the smaller bike I straight up did a 56cm bunny hop whereas with the bigger bike I could do a 30cm one max, jumping felt amazing on the smaller bike for that reason, also drops and every other thing that involves getting some air. The bigger bike is way better on steep chunk and single tracks because it's more stable at speeds.
Hello Evan! Absolutely love the series! I think it would be absolutely awesome if you could do some stuff in the testing like trying to do a Wheelie/manual and a bunnyhop when some people get a hardtail they are looking for stuff like that. Thank you so much!
Okay sounds good!! I'll shout you out next video
@@EvansMTBSaga Thank you so much! I really Appreciate it!
Got a nukeproof scout frame built up a couple weeks ago. I love it.
I just had one built up too! I’m picking it up Monday
You need to try the Banshee Paradox!!
I bought mine about 4 years ago now and I love it. Definitely worth it
Loving this new hardtail series
Thanks Joe!
@@EvansMTBSaga I’m considering getting a Scout to replace my current hardtail and glad I found this video. I’m 5’10” and looks to be between sizes (M and L). What would you recommend I go for? Is my height close to yours?
Really digging this series. I’m running a Diamondback Syncr AL frame/Fox 34 Performance/NX-11/Guide brakes/DT350-27.5+. It’s a complete Marketplace bargain build. I put it together as my “cry less if it’s stolen” bike for camping.
You should look into the 2010 Salsa Mamasita.
Kinda technically an aluminum/scandium mix with carbon seat stays, it had a LOT of compliance for a hardtail.
It was their XC race frame that year even as UCI racers were migrating to full sus from '08-'12
Literally I hesitating between this, the Roscoe 7 , and the cannondale Trail SL 2... So your videoes right in time, and perfect for see another point of view. Thanks!
I just built up a NS eccentric alu. Really loving this frame. The frame is really inexpensive from chain reaction.
I've recently switched from a canyon spectral to a Santa Cruz Chameleon hardtail. And I've never been happier!
I'd love to see a review from you on the chameleon.
I love this frame and color!
I just got a new hardtail this summer and tryed out both the trek roscoe and kona honzo, and the kona honzo felt way nicer too me, you should consider trying it
I got Mine a few days ago and I'm loving it I don't know if its the best but I can't get enough of it
Love this hardtail comparison!
You should try a GT Avalanche .
One of the best value for money out there!
is the Banshee Enigma or Paradox on the list of hardtails?
Surprised the scout did that well! It looks good in that yellow. I'd paint my roscoe in a golden rod sorta yellow if I had time. My roscoe looks real similar to the one at the end of the video. Excited to see what you think about it!
if you are looking for an agressive hardtail with good geometry, i think the best choice would be a Dartmoor Hornet 2023. It supports from 140-180mm travel which is insane for a hardtail but my friend has an 2018 model. I tried it a few times and its by far the best Hardtail ive ever ridden (And ive tried alot of them)
If youre open to suggestions, the Orange P7 is the best hardtail frame going. I know its steel but its so much more compliant than aluminium. But if it has to be aluminium the geometry of the Crush is very similar and worth a look.
Great video though, keep smashing it 👍🏻
This series is awesome. Nice bike too.
The rating system is a bit wacky, though. If the ratings were gonna be like 3.785 out of 5 that could’ve more simply be rated 7.75 out of 10.
I just built up a Scout 275 and absolutely love it! I came from a Scott Spark 750.
Great series I am really enjoying it I would like to see you try a VITUS SENTIER to see how it compares to the other chain reaction bikes like the RAGLEY & NUKEPROOF SCOUT 😀
Oh I kinda forgot about the Sentier 🤦♂️ hmm
@@EvansMTBSaga The trinity of chain reaction bikes would then be complete 😆😆
I’ve had my Scout 275 soft 5 years, and it’s dialed. I slam all the chunky downhill crap with it, i dirt jump it, it just does everything really well.
Such a great all around bike!
Wha size bike did you get and how tall are you? I’m looking at this bike and it recommends a size large. I’m like 5’11 and 3/4
man love your vids makes my day
Hi good afternoon.could you make a review for the latest model of ragley mmmbop or a kona esd. Thank you
It's actually possible for a hardtail to ride like a full suspension, I currently have a czech rock machine blizz, and it's very planted, you should try it out if it's possible to ship it to the us
I was thinking about picking up a nukeproof 290 frame, as I upgrade my stump jumper I can use the parts to build up a buddy bike. I have a rockshox 35 and front wheel sitting on the shelf
Have you thought about trying the giant step hard tail I haven't been Abel to get the new frame so I ride an 2008 model but they got new frame out only in American
love this video man watched you from early first covid and always have great content keep it up man!!! out of interest is this much difference from this bike to the vitus nucleus vr 2021? as ive currently got that frame with a 10spd microshift upgraded onto it plus maxxis dhf and dhr on the vitus - might change to a nukeproof though whats your thoughts?
Yeah the Nucleus has entry level geometry. If you changed the frame you'd notice a gigantic difference. You might run into compatability issues with the Nucleus having a quick release rear end and the Scout having a boost through axle
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks man for the advice and info loving the channel when is your next video up =)
Just built my scout today! Did the 27 in wheel frame. Excited to see how sporty it feels.
You're going to love it! I hope haha
Hey bro dont know if you remember me, i was at your first videos, so happy to see you with over 100K subs keep going❤❤❤
I was also 1 of your first subscribers lol
Not sure the scoring made much sense, but you looked like you had a blast and that says alot!
I just ordered full build scout elite today for half off, brand new. So stoked!
Congrats man! Thats a big purchase and I hope you love it!
Next year, i hope, will be my Nukeproof Scout Elite moment :D
And yes, i love the yellow :D
Is there any chance you can test ride nukeproof scout 275 version? 😁
Give the Sonder Transmitter frame a go! Blake tested 4 rigs in 2018, and the Transmitter won over the Rosco. That year, I got a Transmitter, and with a couple of component upgrades ... man, I got "baaad" rig!
Do the chameleon next!
Roscoe next, but I'm still on the fence about the Chameleon
Did you make the hardtail quest intro!? It looks good!
It was a template that I altered
golavanic corrision doesnt genrally before a month or 2 unless its hot and humid then it can happen a lot faster so on a mountain bike wouldnt leave it for more than a week
Try a norco torrent or knolly tyauguan, they have steel frames with aggressive geos. PLUS the knolly has a titanium version of the tyauguan.
try the ragley Mmbop2.0 I have one and is by fare my favourite aggressive hard tail.
can you try the canyon stoic, when someone wants to buy a hardtail in my area everyone recommends the canyon stoic. There are 3 versions of it i think but the frame is the same, only the parts are different
Hope you test the marin san quentin that matt jones seems to like so much
Yellow looks awesome!
Low bottom bracket is one thing that makes the nukeproof so great imo
Glad to see you're hitting all that with NOBL Tr35s. I have a pair coming in this week and I'm putting them on my Yeti Arc XC build. Glad to know those rims can handle some of the abuse I'm putting the TR38s on my Wreckoning V3 through
Haha the front is a tr32. I cracked the rear tr32 and the 35 is much stronger
i believe nickel compund would work as a alternative to ti prep especially in alloy frames , save some money and go to the auto shop lol, i also reccomend using castrol motorcycle chain wax as chain lube
If ya want better ride quality/comfort, go with...Ragley. Though, both hardtail makers are awkward to ride if you're a tall rider on technical trails. Companies seem obsessed with super-slack toptubes. The recent most comfortable all-mtn hardtail, I've enjoyed is the GT Zaskar LT.
Honestly i love my kona honzo. It works for me and makes me happy!
Hecka yeah to handtails! You should check out a Cotic BeFe Max or Solaris line up at some point.
You should do a specialized fuse! It comes stock at 130 but many people have set it up to 140
Waiting for the steel series. Thats when you find tbe truly special bikes. My Nehaus Metalworks Hummingbird and Ritchey Ultra are awesome.
I just bought a Salsa timberjack 29er frame. I love it so far.
Super fun when a bike surprise’s you like that!
Hi, my name is Lucas and last year I bought the Orbea Laufey, Orbea's trail hardtail. I have to say if you want a smooth and stable hardtail thats the bike fo you but a small disclaimer will be the fact that is very long and u will have some trouble with it if you want to jump and do tricks but other than that is the perfect hardtail bike. Personally i encreased it's trail from 140 to 160 and added some new brakes to be able to stop when necesary paired with Michelin Wild enduro tires.
Hello Evan, could you please try RockMachine Blizz TRL 70-29
Thanks for response ;)
Marin San Quentin one or two! I rode the 1 and absolutely had a blast.
Why not try a 27.5 scout? It's really playful on trail rides!
I am also currently looking for a hardtail - beside my Enduro bike. RSD Middlechild would be my goto right now 😋
This is interesting, I consider my Silverback Slade Trail to be pretty close to the Scout and better than the Roscoe, so seeing this take was great.
It isn't galvanic corrosion you really need to worry about if you're screwing Titanium in to Aluminium. You can get galling in the threads that can either cause the bolts to stick in place, or stick part way in and you can't wind them back out. That's mostly why you need a lubricant on the threads. I learnt this the hard way.
Give the GT Zaskar hardtail a try. Legendery hardtail in the MTB world.
Can you try the marin SQ3 next
Will you try the Trek Roscoe?
Can u please test out the canyon stoic??
Does the scout 275 have the same compliance as scout 290?? 😅 Planning to buy the 275 version
My friend had the 275 and said it was really stiff
@@EvansMTBSaga i see guess gonna go for chromag stylus 😅
Nice review! But what is your height? Because the top tube is sooo long on paper
5'9"
Try Poseidon Norton and the NS Eccentric frames!
I run a 140mm fork on my Axum, I find that fork really soaks up the bumps.
Hey Evan, how tall are you for these medium frames?
I think you should totally try a Specialized Fuse!!!
Rocky Mountain Growler 50 needs to be part of this series. It's sick. I own it.
That one is on the list! I just gotta order it
@EvansMTBSaga awesome! I tried 4-5 hardtails in a year and fell in love with the growler 50. The most fun downhill. Climbs better than some of the reviews suggested. Ultra agressive! IMO.
What action camera do you use?
I really think you should try a good steel hard tail like a Norco Torrent or Canfield Nimble 9. I think it would give you a good comparison for aluminum
Canfield will be tested!
You need to try the specialized fuse
Dude those score numbers “4.024” haha 😂 great video! The final score is going to be hard to beat. I love me some Nukeproof Scout action!
Do you have similar opinions on the frame? It actually blew my mind
@@EvansMTBSagaI haven’t ridden a 290 Scout, but based on my time on my 275 Scout… I would say the 290 would fix all issues I have with the 27.5” version. I’ve heard the newer frames like the one you have is also much more compliant than older frames 👍 The Scout really does live up to its notoriety 🤠
As someone who’s owned several hardtails I have stuck with my scout,it’s not the most aggressive or the slackest but it puts everything together and has been the best all rounder I’ve ever owned. I have a 150mm fork on mine and found that to be the best compromise for bike parks and tech climbs. I have been tempted by the Honzo ESD but I’m not sure it’ll be any better to ride than my scout unless I’m on ridiculous downhill rough stuff
Thats cool to hear we have similar experiences. The thing I like most about Hardtails is that the frames are so cheap and hold their value well. So with that said, you should check out the ESD 😂 haha cheers dude
@EvansMTBSaga I think it's an itch ill have to scratch 😅
I'll wait until "off" season and hope to pick one up cheap. Enjoy your weekend 👍
Give the Trek Roscoe a try! It’s an awesome trail bike that fits this series.
Watch til the end!
Can you do the Orbea laufey H-ltd. I own one and I love it❤😂
Will you try titanium hardtail?
Try the canyon stoic I have one and love it
check out the new kens tyrann x3 for it's the ok enduro hardtail
