I know what you are talking about sir. I am soon to turn 74 and I have about 3 or 4 hours of work in me now days before I have to quit, then the hurt starts. Seems as long as I keep going it's not bad but if I quit for food, I probably not going to start till the next day. Big Smile!

I found you late in your business, but you ended up being the impetus for the wife and I (63 & 66) to build our own home here in upstate NY. Following your basic techniques we were able to frame, dry in and are now wrapping up the interior. It's been amazing to see my wife dive in to working with all of the power tools, learn how to do whatever she needs to make a project happen (she's built all of our furniture, bifold doors and one bathroom door so far) and become proficient with them all. (I dread going into a hardware store now because she's worse than me for picking up a cart full of new tools.). I wish you all the best as you go forward and hope that one day soon, we'll be taking a trip your way since we're almost neighbors. If we do, Maybe we can drop by for a quick meet. Again, thanks for being such a huge inspiration to so many like us!

Get Chad and Dan over to your place for lunch at a table and go over with some of your builds over the years….i recall Lumnah Acres (their home, workshop, and barn) and the lake home with the difficulty in those special windows. In the 70's my dad, my brother in law and I made a fifth wheel camper in the garage. We had purchased a frame from a manufacturer in Indiana. We built the floor and the sides and back in the garage. The portion that goes over the hitch was built as two pieces separately and keyed to interface with the sides. When we were ready we rolled out the assembled pieces from the garage on low rollers and jacked it up. Once in the air we backed the frame under. Once that was secured we set the pieces over the hitch and quickly assembled the roof. We had it out of the garage and assembled in one day. We used aluminum siding that we purchased from a local camper builder and got it water tight in a couple of days. I pulled it from Minnesota to Yellowstone in 75. That was the last camper we built. We had previously built two bumper pull trailers and two slide in campers for pickups.

You earned your retirement (of sorts) , Ken. Hard working, honest, friendly, family man. I am 73 and was still working on our two story house roof a few weeks ago getting it ready to sell.( we built it ourselves , 3000 sq ft, and it sold this week) Our bodies just get to the point where we can get injured just doing the things we used to do daily. Al Lumnah sure was a lucky man to use your talents just as you were tapering off your tough schedule. Good luck and good health in the future and may God bless you and your family. If you find you have a lot of time on your hands once you have retired, consider building a small boat for fishing, etc. You have a lot of tools you'll need and you know how to use them. There are lots of boat building videos on CZcams where you can learn how to build small boats, and you can buy plans and/or boat kits, just look around on the Internet. You will also probably want to build a cabin in the woods with a nearby lake. Greenhouse, yeah that might be nice if you and/or your wife are into gardening or food production. Well, enjoy your retirement. We will miss your videos.

Just a thought. On the bed of your new trailer adding 4 or 5 rollers across the bed will save a lot of time and head ache loading and unloading your buildings. Smaller buildings and "basic knowledge of construction / framing" is a gold mine. There's too few opportunities for younger generations to learn how to build. I came across your channel when you did the Lumnah's workshop in 2023. Congrats on your retirement/change of focus. I, too, did a similar change in 2011, retiring from teaching after 30 years when I reached 55. I was a man with a plan. Since then I have worked in church music ministry in different capacities. PT jobs, subbing, a FT ministry for 4 years, and am playing at a church I went to to sub 50 months ago and was offered a PT position there, which I am still doing. When I retired from teaching, everyone thought I would just sit on my kiester. I golfed a lot the first two summers, but then I took up kayaking. I've also renewed my love of bicycling and bought a mountain Ebike last fall. More adventures awaiting this 68 year old!

You have been a pure joy to watch Ken. I started following you when you helped Al and Gina with their building project. I wish you all the best and blessings to you and your family.

Congratulations with entering your next phase in life. It is good to know that you are not retiring in the traditional sense of the word but rather moving to new adventures. Ken, you have the heart of a teacher so I was wondering if you've ever considered teaching at a trade school. It is my opinion, but I think that you would be great at it.

Congrats Ken, I’m 69 and been retired for 4 years and I’m loving it, I’m busier now that I was when I was working. The big difference is now I do everything on my timeline !!!!! I think the new direction of your channel will be a wide arrangement of more DIY projects, I’ll be with you forever, thanks for all you did for us and may God watch over you and your family, including Dan, see you at the next video.

I turned 62 in 2020 during that horrible imported virus. Having been shellacked with other health concerns it was time to retire, just couldn't do the job anymore. Glad you hung in there as long as you could, Ken. I've enjoyed your building videos, watching you, Chad and Dan (and others like your Daughter Lauren among them) over the last several years. Great opportunity to do just what you're doing, at your own pace without customer deadlines hanging over you. You keep building, I'll keep watching (the trains too are enjoyable, please finish that station already, will ya). Thanks for the content.

Thanks for all the informative entertainment you have provided to my wife and me (and the tens-of-thousands of others). I didn't discover your videos until 2020 but have watched and enjoyed at least 99.5% of your archive and 100% of your recent 3-year production. I am now 75 and still doing DIY and have adopted many of your framing techniques, etc. Best wishes in your next chapter! We sure hope you will continue video production in future projects as we enjoy your presentation style as much as your construction! May God Bless you always!

We're really glad you continued to produce video of your 'new' activities. Have loved watching every one of them and have generated some project activities (on a small scale) for me to engage in. Just watched your drone videos of the terrible flooding from the aftermath of Beryl. Terrible.

As much as I hate to see you stop the build videos of larger buildings, I very much will be waiting or you next builds. Not only on this channel, but on your train, and maybe a few more on your travel channel. My wife and I retired in our early 60's and loved every minute of it. We have traveled to all 50 states and all the Canadian Provence's and one Territory. We are now both in our late 70's, I am 78. My body doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me anymore. Glad I did what we did. Good luck and God Bless. P. S I sent a link on your train channel to a great catalog for you ventures in the train world.

    Dear Ken,
Congratulations on your semi-retirement! I wanted to thank you for the dedication and thoughtfulness you've poured into your videos. Allow me to share a bit of my own journey: at 32 years old I've spent my entire career at a desk job with no prior experience in construction. I had an old, rotting barn on my property that seriously needed renovation. Serendipitously, I discovered your channel around December 2022 and spent the winter watching nearly every video. Your videos provided so much knowledge that I had the confidence to demo and rebuild my barn beginning spring 2023. With a little help from friends, I'm thrilled to report that my project is nearing completion, with the metal roof installed just a week and a half ago. I faithfully applied all the methods and techniques you shared, from concrete work to framing to roofing.
Your videos became a cathartic routine for me, and although I'll miss the garage builds, I can genuinely say that no one has ever taught me as much as you have. For this, I am eternally grateful. I eagerly anticipate your future videos, whatever exciting endeavors you undertake. May God bless you and your family.
    -Josh from NJ

As a long term DIY'r, I always enjoy & learn much from your videos! Congrats on retirement and I wish you good health & many years of enjoyment! I've been retired now for 12 yrs and it never seems to be enough hours in the day....doing what I like to do! ... For those who buy your sheds dropped off in driveway, using 3 lengths of 4" PV pipe makes it easy work to roll them around to where you want to place it without messing up the lawn....I hitch it up to my lawn tractor and every 6'-7' slide in the 3rd pipe, nursing it along to where I want to place it.

Congratulations. Well deserved. However, as someone who comes from a woodworking family I imagine you will still have your hands on the hammer, in the glue, and tinkering with things. Blessings from Richmond, Va.
