    Component cables for the gamecube or the Wii look pretty good on newer HDTVs in my opinion it beats the HDMI converter. And you're right playing games on their original systems has a certain good feeling to it compared to emulating no matter how it looks.

    Very rarely do I manage to find a video that has the exact answers i was looking for, and presented in a way that is easy to understand, and also entertaining.
    I might be 3 years late but this video made my last few days of 2022!

    I'm using my original GameCube with the GB Player. I bought the EON GameCube HDMI Adapter. It's not cheap at $150 US, but it's hands down the best option I've found. So many GameCube games support progressive. The only issue is that it only works on original model gamecubes with the digital out port. But it's been very good to me and looks amazingly crisp.

    The absolute best way of getting a picture out of a native Wii is to install citrus3000psi's Wii Dual kit. It upgrades the Wii's video out to the best level while also giving it a digital HDMI out. This puts out native 480p and avoids the Wii U's poor scaling of wii games.

    Dolphin emulator cannot play Star Wars Rogue Squadron games. Deal breaker for me. I have a real cubes and nearly every GameCube game that I ever wanted finally. Just need a couple more. I also bought one of those hdmi adapters on my modded Wii, but when I fired up megaman 9, I noticed the HUGE impot lag. Made it useless. It was a good fraction of a second after I press jump before megaman jumped, so I just plugged into S video port on my TV and it loks just as good as far as I can tell, an no more lag. Awesome.

    I would rather use a modded Wii U and have three gens in one box
    GB/GBA is easily emulatable with zero problems on PC
    When emulating Gamecube on PC, there's always a chance something won't render right, in my experience anyways

      I wouldn't hold your breathe unfortunately...its up to Game Freak, not Nintendo, and they don't typically port anything. It took twenty years for them to port Red and Blue just as example, and because the franchise is on a schedule to keep up with anime and TCG releases they have very little time to work on side projects.

    Might be best off using component to ossc for vwii stuff on the wiiu at least on 1080p and higher tvs. The wiius upscaling for wii via native hdmi is pretty terrible and I cant find any settings in usbloader that help much

    Hey Blunty. Out of curiosity. How was the audio output on the Wii to HDMI for you? I have a different branded one that I bought like 5 years ago and even though it gets the job done and I've used it a lot, the audio have been kinda loud and "crackely" if that makes sense. So I'm curious on your experience.

  • @akiraokami
    @akiraokami Před 4 lety +1

    If I'd be recording Wii or Gamecube natively, I'd use my Elgato Game Capture HD, which also supported the component cable input, which I own for both my Gamecube and my Wii and even for the N64 and heck even the SNES. And then I'd just use the HDMI output from that back to my TV.
    But because I generally can't be arsed to hook it all up, I'll almost certainly just use Dolphin due to how much easier it is for me to set up without fiddling with a million cables due to lack of space to actually have all of these things pre-set up.

    Emulation is my choice for playing Game Cube games. My son's are I were saddened by the death of my launch Nintendo Wii, the drive seems to have failed and I don't dare put any games in it to test but it doesn't sound happy when you turn it on... So it's retired. Our Wii U belongs to my eldest son. I'm not hacking about with his stuff =)
    I do miss the old days of the GameCube. We gave my eldest son his own GameCube to play sonic adventure 2 on when he was a little dot.

    GameCube (on Wii) in 480p on a native 480p PC CRT is mint. Get a component to vga or component to HDMI for the best quality. Wii u running Wii is supposed to be inferior apparently

    When using that HDMI adapter do virtual console games show up? I've had issues where if you try to load say a Snes game it just goes blank with HDMI converters before. I don't think it can handle the resolution.

    My Wavebird just randomly stops sending (or the dongle stops receiving) inputs for a second, meaning I'm playing and then all of a sudden I have no control and my character stands there like a lump. Never found a solution to fix it, so I can't really use it anymore.

  • @ZeroB4NG

    I'm all about emulation... that is a whole hobby of its own really.
    I would love to have the space required to do a proper physical collection and setup, but just getting more HDD space on a NAS or unRAID server in my case, to collect more games is just much more space efficient than having a dedicated room with shelves filled with cartridges and CDs.
    Of course Emulation has its own issues, compatibility and performance mostly... hardly any Emulator past the 2D systems is perfect yet.

    I don't have my Wii anymore, but I do kind of want to get the HDMI out for my GCN that I still have... With the GameBoy Player and WaveBird. I just wish with all the GCN Controller re-releases Nintendo would re-release the WaveBird, mine is VERY well used, and I don't want to wear it out entirely.

  • @CorvetteCoonass

    If we’re talking GC console playback, Wii U will look the best for the cheapest price. Emulation will always look the best but if you absolutely have to play it on console I’d choose the Wii U. GC component cables are ridiculous in price and the HDMI adapters aren’t much better either.

  • @Frank_D
    @Frank_D Před 4 lety +1

    I actually managed to find a Japanese GameCube and Japanese Game Boy player (with the disk) for much cheaper than the US player with disk. Since all Game Boy carts are region free, this works nicely. Also if you get the GC model with the digital out port, you can get an Eon adapter to convert the signal to HDMI (actually cheaper than trying to get the official component cables).

    • @Frank_D
      @Frank_D Před 4 lety

    I have Gamecube, Wii, WiiU, and switch...
    Gamecube and Wii are best played on PC or android for me. Rendering natively at 1080p or 4k on a proper PC is the way to go for me.
    WiiU is AMAZING on PC but has a long way to go to catch up do "dolphin" level compatibility. However, games like BotW, MK8, and Hyrule Warriors are definitely a treat at 1440p and 4k with a few bug fix type mods applied. DLC and Update support are a bit finicky, but nothing a seasoned PC enthusiast cant figure out with the help of a channel like BSoD Gaming.
    All and all, the Switch need to catch up on the retro console scene for me to pick it back up again. With great emulation and new triple A games on the PC it's hard to put the keyboard down.

    Did u know there is now a soluution for gamecube to run isos of micro sd without modding the cube in any way? All U need is an SD gecko card with a 2 gb micro sd on it, an action replay disk, and the iso chip thing u plug into the bottom of the cubes serial port. I forget what it's called, I bought one off ebay, u can google it or hit me up for a link if u can't find info on it. but u r smart you can find the right info for it.

The hardware isn't all that hard to find... but finding someone selling it WITH the boot disk you NEED to use it with is much MUUCH more difficult (luckily, there's other options to get the hardware working, like a much easier to obtain Action Replay disc - but I'd rather the original ;) )
