If you watch carefully you can see that Zhao fell in the water with the ocean spirit, and that it's shiny as it takes him away. So it doesn't actually change things for the future, we can still get foggy Zhao.
You guys don't remember much details of the animated series about many things, Iroh also confronted Zhao when he killed the spirit in the animated series as well. So you should first rewatch the S1 and then give your thoughts
Btw you guys are right about this rushed thing and lack of character development on screen, but the theme is dark and a little different from the animated series, the story also. So you should watch it without comparing it so much to the animated show. Love you guys

Though there are many differences in the live adaptation, I think the live showing is more on the war aspect and Aang actually accepting that he is the avatar. After all we only now hear about the return of Sozin’s comet at the end of season 1. So since they already green-lit season 2 and season 3, we will probably see more bending in the second season. Adaptions can’t follow the cartoon frame for frame because not only is there copyright issues, but there are things that can’t be done in live production compared to a cartoon. For the attempt of Netflix’s adaption, I think it was still close to the show but it had a different message in it this time. So there are going to be things that OGs are not going to like but we would still appreciate the stuff that they did. I enjoys the show for what it was so I can’t wait to see how it goes for the next seasons.
This is 100% what the runners want to highlight. With the wars going on today, it’s important to see the atrocities, consequences, and the duality of it. No one wins.

this is a very unique project that is getting actual constructive feedback instead of blind praise or straight hate from the majority. the team working on it has very much proven that this is doable, and they can do it, but they need to smooth out the rough edges.. they need to fix their editing, writing and direction. they were so good in some scenes and just hitting rock bottom in very same episode. for example, they showed katara was self trained. but she was still amateur, and fighting against zuko like pakku trained katara.. they should have covered this with some of pakku's student training with her because of how she pushed pakku. they did not had to jump into battle right away at the end of episode 7 should have put some break of several weeks before fire nation arrives. and they should have kept a funeral scene after the battle. where the chief gives an inspiring speech to the tribe which helps aang realize what gyatso was trying to tell him. them jumping to sarcasm while people were collecting corpses was a stupid idea.

My main issue with this season was, like everyone else, I thought it was a little too condensed. They could have given this an even 10 episodes to let things breath a little more and develop the characters a little. For this episode in particular, obviously the wig is bad, but I also have to question what the heck Ozai is talking about when he said the attack on the north was a distraction. A distraction for WHO? The two locations have no one in common. No one involved in defending Omashu was involved in anything to do with the North, and vice versa. The only exception is the Avatar and his two friends. But it's not like they were hunkered down in Omashu, defending the place when they were fed info of the attack on the North, prompting them to leave. THAT would be a distraction (specifically for three snot nosed kids). They'd already left Omashu. They were already heading north. They didn't know about the attack until they were already on their way there. So what the hell is Ozai talking about?

I think Iroh knew Zuko had this, and needed to do it himself. I think this fight is a combo of their first fight, and this one. The first fight they duel, and Zuko shows mercy, then turns his back and while walking away, Iroh takes care of him. Sure he just pushed him, but they just let Iroh end him here I guess. In the original, Aang had already been dropped off by the ocean spirit before Zhoa was grabbed btw, Aang had no part in his death. That actually tricked me for some time, then I randomly noticed it one time when I watched it, I was like oh, ok, good, bc that never made sense to me lol

Absolutely! Whether she's your favourite character or not, I think most people would agree that this show really hits its stride once Toph shows up.
if you ask me it will be make or break within the first episode, aang did not even try waterbending ONCE besides when he merged with the ocean spirit, which was the whole point of them going to the north pole... and they say that just for them to leave after the battle... a lot of questionable writing decisions, it wasnt awful but its a 6/10 and i doubt itll get better unless they make it longer than two more seasons
@@LS-tk7hp Fully agree with you that the show needed, and needs more episodes/seasons. If I could add an episode, I'd marry the Haru episode with the Pirates episode, center the theme on cultural reclamation - of prisoners' earth bending, of Aang's bison whistle, of Katara's water bending scroll. The Zuko B-plot would be music night on the ship. We know from season 3, that the fire nation used to be all about dance, and dance needs music. That's Iroh organizing a little cultural reclamation for Zuko and the crew.

The Iroh and Fish scene was directed incorrectly. His lines should have came after Zhao was holding the fish not before he went over to the water. Just like choosing Team Avatar to have that conversation at the wall instead of somewhere else doesn't match the lines being said.
Iroh not assisting Zuko is consistent with the cartoon as Iroh only steps in when Zuko is in real trouble. Episode 2 of Book 1 for example Pirates episode for another example. Zhao duel for a third example.

I think it ended really well. And sets up season 2 nicely
And most people say season 1 of the animation was the weakest, so they did well here in this adaptation by emphasizing and incorporating more of the fire nation stories.
You're so right, so much material there. YBF even in the animation the fire natio/family stuff was also more interesting😂 a good balance

@daniellaaa24 yep. I think people forget that season 1 of the animated series was kind of slow at times and had fluff/filler episodes. I know that lead to character build but at the same time, it drug out the overall plot as well (in a good and bad way...depending on how you look at it). In season 2 it feels like things moved at a swifter pace while also going slow enough to introduce new characters and build upon the old characters. It was the perfect blend imo. That's just my take on it and why I think people loved season 2 so much.
