The Dark Philosophy Of Appa’s Lost Days

- Appa's Lost Days is one of the darkest and saddest episodes I've ever watched in a TV show. It shows the power of animals and highlights one of Avatar's most important characters.
Do you agree?

"You still full of love, But fear has moved in where trust should be" that line breaks me everytime. Crying like a little baby

That's not funny at all. I'm far funnier than you.
This episode is one of the many episodes in this show that make me tear bend bc you can really see the resilience appa went through jus to find aang 🥺
Pfft, tear bend. Lol

SHUT UPPPPO with the tear bend it’s so cringe 💀💀
@@pekekito who cares
Aang prefers to be a pacifist but i have no doubt he would stab everyone in that circus 20 times in the chest
Fun facts:
• Appa's tail is often used as an escalator.
• According to his missing posters and a statement made by Aang, Appa's weight was ten tons.
• In "The Warriors of Kyoshi", Sokka referred to Appa as a "ten-ton magical monster".
• In "The Library", it was stated that Appa had a double-chin.
• In " Winter Solstice, Part 2: Avatar Roku" states that Appa is the only flying bison left in the world. However, it was later revealed that after the end of the War, Aang discovered a whole new herd of sky bison
APPA is literally the character that nobody hates.
Nah, nobody hates Iroh either
Nobody hates my boy Bumi either
One more fact. Aapa has 5 stomachs as mentioned in Season 1 episode 12 "The Storm" when Appa wants to eat a watermelon and when momo snatches it, Aang cuts watermelon giving 1/4th to momo and 3/4th to Appa and says appa has 5 stomachs.

Honestly, after seeing what appa went through in this episode, AANG’s behavior in “ the desert” episode is very understandable and it explains why he was so ticked off.
I can’t imagine my family, culture, pets and friends all slaughtered and the few family that did survive got kidnapped and you don’t know what’s happening to them. That would be a breaking point for most
💯
Probably the only reason he didnt massacre them was that appa, momo, and the teachings of the air nomads are the only things he has left of the air nomads, and killing would mean forsaking their teachings
Yangcheng probably was pissed too
@sedlyholmes3722 if Aang was in the Avatar state any longer she would've snatched the controller and went to work lol
My younger sister never understood why I liked this episode growing up. She always said “it’s too sad.” But I knew there was method to the sadness.

This reminds me of what Iroh said, "In the darkest times, hope, is something you give yourself, that is the meaning of true strength."
I love this video and I hope it gets more attention from it
Okay, first of all, it’s “this is the meaning of true strength.” If you’re going to quote Iroh, do it properly.
@@davidmcaninch4714 sorry I just forgot it-
imma correct it, thanks
I once believed that Hope was a cliche solution that was just blind optimism that won't help me in my hopeless time.
After listening to a song about Hope, and even Irohs words I reflected on. I realize now that hope is a source of strength we can rely on despite what the odds are and how hopeless things in your life become. I was wrong about the kind of optimism it was, it was optimism that knows exactly where you are and proceeds to let you hope regardless of the dark times you are in.
Hope is what you give yourself in times of hopelessness.
My experience to learn this was not cut dry, it took me so many falls to understand the meaning of those words. It was the very word that gave my life hope that things will get better, no matter how pushed down I am, it's my new source of strength
*THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT! THE GOAT!*

@@b1laxson Trudat, actually. Real talk.
He’s a bison actually
@@cartoonishidealism582 sky bison to be precise
Airbenders used to have the ability to fly, untethered by worldly attachments. When they met the sky bison, their love for one another prevented the airbenders from learning to fly - their love for their bison kept them tethered to the ground (as explained in Korra). ATLA never explored this concept, but it adds so much more to how deep the relationship is between Aang and Appa - making the episodes where they are apart so much more impactful in retrospect.
That wasn't explained, that's a theory. The ancient airbenders were clearly standing on clouds of bent air.

I cry like a bitch through this entire episode every time i watch it. Appa keeps finding hope, only to have it violently ripped away every time. His flashback to being a baby bison is so sweet and so sad. Also seeing how Appa trusts people less and less to the point that Guru Patik had to stay still for days before Appa believed he wasnt a threat. Appa deserved better 💔

Appa is also extremely loyal to his companions, he wanted to stay and help the kyoshi warriors but suki knew that he needed to find aang
I broke my heart that she had to scare him away with fire so he could find aang
These episodes make me so emotional all the time. How beautiful is innocence, and how fragile it is....
We must strive to protect ALL animals from torture and abuse. No living being deserves to be hurt in this way.....
Wow. I'd never connected Aang's hopelessness with Appa's continued hope. Although Appa does kind of get that bad by the time the Kyoshi warriors found him. That whole arc is just so heartbreaking. Best of luck to your channel!
When I first watched this episode I was just kid, now I'm a 30 year old man and this episode makes me teary eyed. Excellent video BTW.

@@futuretrunks9257 I was 13, I tend to call all teenagers kids lol. My bad
I always liked the fact that this episode could have easily been skipped. They showed Aang trying to find Appa, and then they had a beautiful reunion. No one would have said anything if they thought "showing you how much Appa has suffered would have been too much". Instead, they fully committed, and created a wonderful episode
I love how you pointed out that Appa is Aang’s living breathing hope. It sure is hard to instill hope within, esp when the world is trying constantly to rob it off you, but watching this video, on a time like this where I feel hopeless, sure does help. Maybe it’s time for me to open up my eyes and see the “Appa” within the people around me. Thank you for this video. 🤗
Baby appa is the cutest thing ever but these episodes as a kid made me cry. Now as a man I cry even harder

I was like PUT SOME RESPECT ON MY GIRL TY LEE’S NAME
@@Mightbeuglyactually according to the beach episode the term circus freak is a compliment t to ty lee
@Mightbeugly Yeah she was working for Azula at the time ,who who ruined Appa's good moment
This story arc was straight-up PAINFUL to watch during the original series run. I watched these episodes when they first aired in 2006, and we had to wait TWO WEEKS for every new episode. That means they kept us in suspense for over 2 months before Aang and Appa were finally reunited.
“Azula, circus freak, and emo girl” took me out
I think if you eatch carefully you see glimpses of Appa's strong will, love and loyalty. In season 1 ep 15, Appa kept fighting the shirshu even when he got hit. He is willing to protect Aang at all costs. Even in season 1 ep 8 when Aang wanted to go into the fire nation without Katra and Sokka, Appa refused to go because he knew Aang would need the help. Appa is a full character throughout the show if you watch carefully, even Momo. In fact both are not just apart of team avatar but are just as important as any other member
I remember when nicktoons would exclusively air this set of episodes and NOTHING ELSE for what seemed to be forever, not even stuff from previous seasons. It was a special type of hell seeing appa suffer over and over
5:02 You're still full of love, but fear has moved where trust should be. I can't relate more to this phrase as a mid-20 adult in 2024. It seems we are all appa in this moment.
"Azula, Circus freak and emo girl" You did not need to make me chuckle on a sad video
I’m going through a lot atm. And earlier I happened to say “i give up. I’m so tired.” And this by accident came up and when you said those words to “never give up”. Ty you probably saved a life.

I wish you hope!
Keep fighting, RAINBOWKID. Ask for help when you need it. Dark times are always temporary, even if they don't feel that way.
This is also the only episode in the whole show that shows blood. Making it truly the darkest and most grim of the series
You can feel the rage and pain in Anng. Ok rewatches I always look forward to Appa's days
This is an excellent video about one of the most heartbreaking episodes of one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Avatar: The Last Airbender knew how to characterize one-off characters, and even animals very well. You'd think there wouldn't be much to talk about given that Appa can't speak. However, we don't need him to actually talk. He speaks to us through his actions.
Like you said, when you watch this episode, you know exactly why Aang was so upset.
Im not crying, youre crying. 😭😭😭😭
4:30 crazy insults
According to the beach episode, Circus freak is a compliment to Ty Lee.
Wonderful message with a calming voice. Thank you for your hard work and keep doing what you love and never lose hope. Be Appa!
Appa is my favorite character and I saw him as such from the start. He’s obviously intelligent and has a sense of humor too! Appa’s Lost Days is my favorite episode.
This episode really showcases the greatness of this show. The suffering of Appa really made me weight in such strong emotions, it reminds me of my dog. There's a reason some would really consider such wrath when someone messes with their pets. I can't imagine my dog going through pain, I still remember a day when we left my first dog (spoiled and yet loved greatly)at a friends house since we were going out of town. I can vividly remember how crazy he was going in their garage, and it wasn't until later on that I realized he might had thought we were abandoning him.. when we went to pick him up he hesitated at first, but then he just went crazy. There's such a strong advocacy for people to have pet dogs, so many beautiful memories with them. Appa and Aang had such intimate relationship that they were bonded for life.
These type of shows gave the best life lessons. Dbz, avatar etc were so inspiring so many lessons just from a show.

I like how the people who made a show did not only show the bad things in the circus but also showed that animals in captivity do not know how to survive in the wild and do not know how do you find food or protect yourself from predators

6:01, Oppa’s primal will to survive and reunite with his best friend being contrasted by Aang’s will, hope and joy completely collapsing under the weight of being separated from Oppa also highlights another aspect of Aang’s character.
Despite his instances of courage, love compassion and idealism, he is also somewhat defined by his fear and shame. Losing Oppa was just another failure, another being he was unable to protect, another loved one he’d lost. While his silly and sometimes nervous mostly hides this fact, Aang’s moments of anger and bitterness are born his own personal insecurities directed outward and its when he remembers the pain and the will of others that he is able to abandon that insecurity. As Iroh would say, “Pride is not the opposite of shame, but it's source. True humility is the only antidote to shame.”
This also extends to Aang’s pacifism, it some could easily call it cowardice, an inability to accept being responsible for the lose of a life or being unwilling to compromise his morals in order to restore balance, even if that choice harms the world in the process. But in the best of instances, Aang’s merciful nature isn’t out of cowardice or a fear of guilt, but in understanding the kind of pain he would be inflicting on others due to what he has experienced and not wanting others to suffer what he has.
This added bit of complexity to Aang’s character, the line between compassion and cowardice, and having the basis behind his ideals evolved without truly changing his character is part of what makes him compelling.
yoooo keep on doing what u doing bro subbed and looking forward for more!
