  • Cool Trip Walks is hiking Seceda, Italy. This is not a silent walking video. Viewers are always welcome to use their workout playlists and just take in the scenery, or enjoy the narration. Due to beauty of Seceda, this episode has more scene breaks due to the dashing around to take in all the sights.
This is my family's second visit to Seceda in the Dolomites, it just calls you back due to how beautiful it is. It is an absolute adult playground, with an amazing amount of hiking & biking trails, paragliding, and an array of mountain huts to choose from to keep fueled for the day. This is also the hike I have been planning to film since launching this channel. The Cool Trip Walks logo is inspired by this place.
Please also check the posts on our channel site. We have posted many pictures from Seceda that did not appear in the video.
One of Cool Trip Walks ideals is you don't need to go far to have a cool trip. However, if you do go far, it is important to be prepared so you can have the best time! Having hiked the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the past I've experienced rapidly changing mountain weather conditions first hand. Seceda is twice as high as the peaks in the White Mountains. Our highest point at Seceda was at over 8200 feet above sea level. At this altitude oxygen levels are about 25% less than at sea level. Regardless of fitness level one will feel the thinner air. Just be aware of this and take your time. Given my past experience (of sleet in July in the White Mountains!) I did a lot of research on gear to be prepared in order to have the most fun. Seceda is relatively easy to visit if you are in Val Gardena in the Dolomites, however, you don't want to be caught off guard.
Bring proper eye protection and sunscreen as UV is much stronger at higher altitudes than at sea level. (Think polarized sunglasses). Eye injuries can occur. We made sure we all wore appropriate sunglasses for both our visits to Seceda. Footwear is a personal choice due to comfort, hiking or trail running shoes are recommended, something with proper tread, and proper hiking socks.
I set up on Amazon Affiliates to share some of Cool Trip Walks gear that we used on Seceda and our Italian adventures. If these have value to you, please support Cool Trip Walks, we've used these products for both our trips and they have stood the test of time for us:
amzn.to/4cTqnRr : Goodr glare reducing polarized mirrored sunglasses - Comfortable, inexpensive eye protection
amzn.to/4c3Tpwp : smaller polarized sunglasses for our younger family members
amzn.to/3LDzj1r : Sunbum sunscreen products, as best of an ingredient list we can find that aren't harsh chemicals.
amzn.to/46jsT0L : roll up water bags, takes up very little space in the suitcase, and are easy to cary in a day pack (once filled with water)
amzn.to/4d9KMS0 : We've traveled to Italy twice with Osprey carry-on backpacks, this is a day pack that can be used as personal item baggage and then day pack on your adventures
amzn.to/4ddjWZb : This day pack was used by our shorter family members and is also compatible with our FarPoint/Fairview carry-on packs.
If you have any questions on gear or about the Val Gardena area of the Dolomites, or how to get to Seceda or the Val Gardena Dolomites, please leave a comment in discussion or feel free to email me.

Thanks! We finished the episode at the outskirts of the Baita Troier Hutte, I stopped the film to get my 6 yr old through the gates, and then we enjoyed some great South Tyrol food. We continued our hike onto the Odles, but I decided to enjoy the hike with my family the rest of the way and didn't film more at Seceda. I did follow up by filming in Ortisei at the foot of Seceda, episode next week. :) It gives us yet another reason to return to Seceda in the future though!

Holy cow, that is just MASSIVE! Can't imagine how it looks and feels out there in reality, must be amazing, because I'm sure that camera can't deliver it.

Its honestly overwhelming! It hits all the senses in the best possible way. The camera can't convey that, but I was happy how clear the video was. 🙂 We visited twice, first time...just wasn't enough! Thanks for visiting the channel. - Tom

Thanks for the kind words! Mt. Seceda is definitely one of my favorite places, one only hopes it presents as well video as it does in person. :)
