Eating SOUTH TYROLEAN FOOD in Italian Dolomites 🇮🇹 (IS THIS EVEN ITALY?!)

- Welcome back to Italy! 🇮🇹 Instead of street food, we are showing you the BEST food to eat when you visit the Dolomites, in South Tyrol. This area is very close to the Austrian border, so their cuisine reflects that, which you won’t find anywhere else in Italy!
We are taking you to Seceda, an incredible mountain with breathtaking views. Many tourists come here for hiking, paragliding, skiing or retreats, but we’re here for the Tyrolean food!
To get there, you will need to take a gondola and cable car, which will take you to the most famous sightseeing spot. The ride round trip is 35 euro per person. Once you get there, you can start exploring along the many hiking trails.
📍Seceda, South Tyrol
If you hike down, you’ll find the restaurant Troier Hütte, which specializes in farm to table food. A must try is their cheese and speck board. Their speck is smoked locally and is amazing! We also had a speck dumpling soup and beers. A perfect meal after hiking around.
📍 Troier Hütte
The next day, we visited Lago di Carezza. This is just a short hike around a turquoise lake surrounded by massive mountains!
📍Lago di Carezza
We then drove to Bolzano, a beautiful city influenced by Bavarian Baroque architecture. We walked through the narrow streets and old squares to get to Franziskanerstuben for more Tyrolean food. We ordered the classic Wiener Schnitzel and Apple Strudel.
📍 Franziskanerstuben
We travelled around this region by rental car which is one of the best and most convenient ways to explore the Dolomites!

Ohne speck war südtirol net is gleiche c:
The reason why Bolzano looks like Germany or more like Austria is that South Tyrol used to belong to Austria. It only became part of italy after the first world war. That's also the reason why most people's first language here is german and not italian. But we learn italian in school already in first grade. Many of the traditions and also the food come from the time before we became part of italy and people are very proud of that.
It Is not true, the first Language in Bolzano (city of Bolzano) Is Italian by 73,30%.
@@MobileCanal I mean south tyrol in general.
@@christineplattner7122 the legale name Is Provincia di Bolzano, not South Tyrol. The territory Is called Alto Adige/Südtirol
@@MobileCanal oh my god I live here I know that! but I know also that for international people it is easier to understand when I speak of it as south tyrol. But thanks for the lecture✌🏼
@@christineplattner7122 the lecture Is not for you, but for foreign people who thinks this Is not Italy. Also other parts of Italy were indipendent and join to Italy at a certain point. Bye
I'm wheelchair bound, will never again get to travel very far. I'm so grateful for the beautiful videos of you two; I get to see what I'd otherwise miss. Canadians are cool! Best wishes from
Texas-
I cannot agree with you more. We all have different reasons for not being able to travel far. Back in the day, we live those moments when a family member, friend or relative shares their travel experience. Nowadays, with so many travel vloggers on CZcams, we get the virtual experience. I always like videos such as this.
my aunt is also wheelchair bound and we have been to these areas, yes its not easy but it is possible, so don't give up on travelling.
You may get to so much more ❤️
Much love to you.
Europe tends to be very Wheelchair friendly
Hey, I am in Italy and I travelled a bit after having my accident before I could walk normally. Most places are really wheelchair friendly: if someone can drive for you there's little problem =D
Oh man! I'd never want to leave there. While other people get envious of beaches and islands, mountains make my heart sing. And to have the best foods of Italy and Austria...that put it into heavenly territory for me. Beautiful video, guys!
I agree with you my family is from cortina 🇮🇹 in the Alps.
I’m from there mate. The place is awesome, would even say one of the most beautiful places in the world. Moved away years ago. Still have family there and return multiple times a year, however I would never move back. People there are just terrible to each other
Browsing through CZcams all of a sudden I see…my hometown! Glad you enjoyed it 😜
Südtirol speck beste❤🇮🇹i m from South Tirol
for the next stop in süd tirol you can move towards the north of lake Garda, where I live, and taste the typical fish recipes of the lake
The Dolomites area is divided in 5 regions: Trentino, Alto Adige, Veneto, Friuli and a bit in Austria. The parts in Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto are a bit crowded. If you want the Dolomites in their wilder aspect you have to visit the East Dolomites in Belluno province and in Friuli... The mountains are great too but the nature is wild.
My lovely home! I’m so glad you had fun and enjoyed it guys! You are always welcome to our Land Südtirol!
Thank you for once again proving to us that Italy is really a food paradise,
all the food looks really delicious! Your video is really good! Well done.
I hope you will come back to Taiwan for a trip one day.

@@LukeMartin Welcome back to Taiwan. We can't wait to see you here. 👍😀🙏
it is,,, the only country worldwide u can find wine in every region...from Bolzano to Basilicata and to Sicily and Sardegna..every region has its own wine... where in the world you can find this? food is also very important everywhere in Italy so you can find everywhere their traditional food and specialties ... In Italy people not only eat to get full...they celebrate it like no one else... dont get me wrong..there is a lot of countries in this world with awesome food and traditions...Italy: Saper vivere or il dolce far'niente... I love Italy for many things... greetings from Germany /Berlin

Wow, great to see that… and I say that as a South Tyrolean guy. I live approximately 80 kilometres north - east from the seceda…
Great that you were here…
Greetings
And you have such tyrolean name! :)
The Dolomites are spectacular and the food amazing. I’ve been in the North and it’s just nothing short of breathtaking. I’m very glad you featured this region of Italy. Your scenery and food brings me back! I’ve eaten all of what you featured. Yum!
Totally agree!
@@LukeMartin What you eaten was typical Bavarian/Austrian food. The meat/cheese dish is Bavarian/Austrian 2nd Breakfast. That 2nd Breakfast became later the Brunch that you guys have in the US. The first breakfast is with no meat/cheese. But because the British get up last ones in the morning in all of Europe, that first sweet breakfast was cancelled hundreds of years ago or so in Britain and therefore in later USA. What you have eaten is the predecessor of your American Bacon and ham breakfast. The other deep plate was a Bavarian/Austrian Knoedel Dish. The second meal with Schnitzel/Strudel is as Bavarian/Austrian as it gets...
glad you like it here!
@@petermages9482 It's also very typical for this region. I live there ;)
Its so cute watching Sabrina swear and realize she did... love you guys... stay safe
I love Sabrina’s smile… thank you for always smiling

Knodel or Canederli are very tasty !
They are delicious especially in winter
And the speck ... 🤤🤤
Excellent coverage of some magnificent views of lake and mountains. Great job!
Every scenery is breathtaking, isn't it ! Especially Seceda is literally, a paradise on earth☺️. And there seems more tourists than I thought😄 which makes this video more amazing😙!

Alpine mountains are the most impressive part of European nature
Dolomites are very different from alps.
@@Cosmopavone can you explain
@@Samual.adis.Najmani Dolomites are a different chain of mountains . The italian big mountains chains are Alps, Dolomites and Appennini. Very different fronm each other. As you can see Dolomites looks a lot more rocky than the Alps
@@Cosmopavone surrounding of alps are the best nature of Europe
The view of the mountains and that lake the crystal blue and great food and beer with a view..STUNNING!!😍😍
I love this so much! after the pandemic this is just what I need
No way really? Totally not what I pictured of anything remotely Italy .. amazing! Makes me want to explore Italy even more!
Yes Italy has a lot to offer!!
Exactly. I'm Italian and I see that in America Italy is meant to be "sole mare pizza mandolino mozzarella" that is sun, seaside, pizza mandolin and mozzarella cheese... All things of Southern Italy, where expatriates come from... But northern Italy has a lot to offer. And I think that it is generally unknown outside of Europe.
@@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele Thanks to Luke and Sabrina I now know!
@@LukeMartin everything*
@@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele Unkonwn? lol Im from Bolzano and we are completely full of tourists the whole year usually (Covid aside). Also the dolomites, which in my opinion is the most beatuiful place on earth, is extremely crowded nowadays.

Another freaking banger from Luke and Sabrina!!!
Oh god! The view was breathtaking!!!
Absolutely!
What a fabulous video!! That dumpling soup actually made my mouth water. I watch a lot of food and travel videos and that’s the first time that has ever happened…lol. Italy is my favourite place in Europe. 🍕🍝🥗😋
i live over there and the bread dumplings are called knodel in german and canederli in italian, but the variant with cheese filling and melted butter as sauce instead of broth is even better.

I've been there several times. Dolomites are the most beautiful mountains in the world and the food is just unbelievable. Those dumplings are called "canederli" and they are amazingly tasty.
They are actually called Knödel, canederli is just the italian name for the dish

Longer videos coming soon!! Sorry this one was a little short!
I enjoyed this episode.
Glad you enjoyed my region and my home town :)
The small cream that you ate with the speck is called "cren" and is made with horseradish (I think this is the name in english). Quite "strong" taste, I personally don't like it too much.
The "canederli" are the most typical dish and is always a good choice :) i personally like them with butter and cheese.
Is always interesting to see what people think of your homeland, thanks for sharing your experience. Nice video! :)
Canderli is not an Italian but an Austrian/German dish - and South Tyrol is not really Italy but rather Austria (occupied by Italy after WW1).
There's nothing more romantic than Italian food. Italian food is my favorite food. It's the most sophisticated eating system. Love from Korea 🇰🇷💕

@@bogo_wanderlust3692 what you say is true. South Tyrol does not look like Italy, but more Austria, especially in the valleys. In Bolzano the situation is already a little different. however, it must also be said that the autonomous province of Bolzano retains 9/10 of its taxes. it is equally obvious that, in addition to this “privilege”, the right mentality is necessary to manage the territory well
