Eating SOUTH TYROLEAN FOOD in Italian Dolomites 🇮🇹 (IS THIS EVEN ITALY?!)

  • Welcome back to Italy! 🇮🇹 Instead of street food, we are showing you the BEST food to eat when you visit the Dolomites, in South Tyrol. This area is very close to the Austrian border, so their cuisine reflects that, which you won’t find anywhere else in Italy!
We are taking you to Seceda, an incredible mountain with breathtaking views. Many tourists come here for hiking, paragliding, skiing or retreats, but we’re here for the Tyrolean food!
To get there, you will need to take a gondola and cable car, which will take you to the most famous sightseeing spot. The ride round trip is 35 euro per person. Once you get there, you can start exploring along the many hiking trails.
    📍Seceda, South Tyrol
If you hike down, you’ll find the restaurant Troier Hütte, which specializes in farm to table food. A must try is their cheese and speck board. Their speck is smoked locally and is amazing! We also had a speck dumpling soup and beers. A perfect meal after hiking around.
    📍 Troier Hütte
The next day, we visited Lago di Carezza. This is just a short hike around a turquoise lake surrounded by massive mountains!
    📍Lago di Carezza
We then drove to Bolzano, a beautiful city influenced by Bavarian Baroque architecture. We walked through the narrow streets and old squares to get to Franziskanerstuben for more Tyrolean food. We ordered the classic Wiener Schnitzel and Apple Strudel.
    📍 Franziskanerstuben
We travelled around this region by rental car which is one of the best and most convenient ways to explore the Dolomites!

The reason why Bolzano looks like Germany or more like Austria is that South Tyrol used to belong to Austria. It only became part of italy after the first world war. That's also the reason why most people's first language here is german and not italian. But we learn italian in school already in first grade. Many of the traditions and also the food come from the time before we became part of italy and people are very proud of that.

The Dolomites area is divided in 5 regions: Trentino, Alto Adige, Veneto, Friuli and a bit in Austria. The parts in Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto are a bit crowded. If you want the Dolomites in their wilder aspect you have to visit the East Dolomites in Belluno province and in Friuli... The mountains are great too but the nature is wild.

Glad you enjoyed my region and my home town :)
The small cream that you ate with the speck is called "cren" and is made with horseradish (I think this is the name in english). Quite "strong" taste, I personally don't like it too much.
The "canederli" are the most typical dish and is always a good choice :) i personally like them with butter and cheese.
Is always interesting to see what people think of your homeland, thanks for sharing your experience. Nice video! :)

Canderli is not an Italian but an Austrian/German dish - and South Tyrol is not really Italy but rather Austria (occupied by Italy after WW1).

@@bogo_wanderlust3692 what you say is true. South Tyrol does not look like Italy, but more Austria, especially in the valleys. In Bolzano the situation is already a little different. however, it must also be said that the autonomous province of Bolzano retains 9/10 of its taxes. it is equally obvious that, in addition to this “privilege”, the right mentality is necessary to manage the territory well
