  • Great time visiting John in Maine. Replaced his air cooled engine with a Viking and gained 20 mph. The guys that had their O-200 engines replaced also visited. Three airplanes, three engines replaced.

    I had the pleasure of visiting with there 3 awesome dudes and their Viking engines 2 weeks ago. Hearing these Viking engines and talking to the guys sold me! I just bought a Vans RV-12 with the Viking 110 paired with a 3-blade Duc Swirl prop. I’m looking forward to flying with these 3.

    I would love to convert my 1961 Ercoupe to Experimental with a Viking Engine! I have heard several people talking about how smooth the Viking 130 runs. I am always impressed
    with how quick the Zenith gets off the ground. Excellent updates!

    I think the Viking engines are definitely a good option for experimental

    Thanks for the video! Please tell us, did the ULP engine actually fail mechanically in some way or did it fail to please the expectations of the owner? Fuel consumption? Oil usage? High maintenance costs? True performance - HP output? This will help us all.

    This looks like an interesting swap to gain some performance. What was the difference in aircraft empty weight after the swap?

    What is average cruise rpm for the 130hp in a 601-XLB?
    Regardless, really love the way they fire right up and their smooth sounding operation.

    Any numbers for the difference in weight?

      Don’t recall, this install was a bit more rushed due to late flights and missing packages that should of arrived. It does weigh more, and also has a header tank now as well. It also now has the performance and power he wanted and expected

    How you deal with intake valves gunk deposits from direct injection issues with honda engines?

    • @eggenfellner
      @eggenfellner  Před rokem +4

      Thanks for your kind comment, just like in any standard aircraft engines, it is not run back into the intake - making this a non issue for our use. They have to run it back into the cars for epa.
      This is answered in some of our Viking talks videos. So, we don’t have issues with deposits in the intake valves…hence why we have engines with thousands of hours without ever touching the internals.

    How does replacing a 130hp engine with a 130hp engine yield a 20mph increase?

    • @eggenfellner
      @eggenfellner  Před rokem +4

      The UL Hp rating is at an unattainable RPM, making it not really a true 130 Hp engine to begin with.

      @@eggenfellner I noticed ULP now advises lower operating RPM and to match prop for those lower RPM, but last time I checked, they still advertise power output at the higher RPM. IMO ULP engines are attractive in some ways but it seems silly having to adjust valves in the 21st century. And if you have to burn AvGas, they have proved prone to lead build up in the heads/valves. I hope they continue to improve their product. Options are a good thing.

      @@eggenfellner Oh its attainable, but at 3300 rpm and a with smaller prop diameter, so less thrust. I fly a Murphy Elite with a 180hp UL 520i and we limit engine rpm to 2700 to be able to use a 'normal' sized prop. Power output is around 165 hp at that point. More than enough.

    Great! Is anybody afraid to say the Honda has more power than the UL350is? Come on guys! Oh, "I replace the engine because I wanted the aircraft the way I wanted" Really? Say it! I am in the dark here not knowing which one has better performance for ex. OH, "its about the same" bla bla bla. Please, be concise and to the point. Is it to hard to be honest?

    • @eggenfellner
      @eggenfellner  Před 7 měsíci

      We have others whom have said it, and in a STOL application it has a hard time cooling all the cylinders. When people are still trying to sell their other engine going to be hard to say negative things about it :) if you look at their own torque chart it clearly shows hp ratings as unachievable. We also have charts on our website from documented flights showing better performance and less fuel burn.
