"Invoking bowel wrenching fear into the dark hearts of your enemies!" "Officer?!? I'm not an officer! I WORK for a living!!!" R. Lee Ermey freakin' RULES!!!
R Lee Ermey is one of the most typecast actors in recent film history(not that it's a bad thing as he's very effective in these roles). Look at his acting credits and you'll see that a large percentage of his roles fall into categories such as; colonel, sergeant, coach, sheriff, sky marshall, general, judge, chief, captain, guard...pretty much a bunch of authority figures who will "unscrew your head and shit down your neck" if you piss them off. Ermey is just awesome and I'll leave it at that.
"In space, noone can hear you scream, unless it's the battlecry of a United States Marine". ...I sure hope that gets adopted as a USMC phrase once we do get to space.
0:50-0:52: Wang mistaken the Drill Instructor for a police officer. I love the part where Sergeant Major Bougus--played by R. Lee Ermey--carried his swagger stick.
I remember watching this with my best friend when it first aired and one of us went, "hah, he's just like the drill Sargent from Full Metal Jacket....uh, actually, is that....nah, it can't be. Oh fuck yeah, it is!"
if you're wondering about the F/A-18 in the background, the pilot was filmed in Australia (they were meant to film the regular series there too, but Fox changed their mind), and bootcamp was shot on an RAAF base
Yes he is. ;-) Ronald Lee Ermey. The reason why he plays this role so often in movies is that he once was a marine corps drill instructor and therefore is perfect for this role. Note that he often holds one of his hands behind his back. He does this especially often in Full Metal Jacket. Thats because it is often shaking quite heavily as a result of him suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome which he has since his service in vietnam.
He was a real Drill Instructor and meritoriously promoted to Gunney after retiring because of his dedication to the Corps in the tv and movies that he did.
I loved that part, if they did a second season of Space: Above and Beyond, I wish they showed Bogaus going through a new group of recruits for the Wildcards (considering all but three have died. R. Lee Emery is the best.
My Drill instructor was called "Jim" he was a nice mellow guy. He bought us all ice creams on our first day on Parris Island and we all went to the beach It was lovely
He was not a drill sergeant, he was a God damn DRILL INSTRUCTOR. The army has drill sergeants, the Marine Corps has DRILL INSTRUCTORS. They are two different species entirely. Simper Fi.
Gunny Rules! Man, I used to LOVE that show, too bad he was only in the pilot. I was hooked from the first preview which was a cut from this video, when he says "I'm here to turn you slimey civilians into United States Marine Corps Space Aviators!" And also too bad it only lasted one season, left you on a cliffhanger.
I just love it! Brings back so many memories to hear a DI chewing up recruits. Sure this is sanitized just as FMJ and any other Marine Corp Drill instructor on film. FMJ was close but still held back a great deal of "words" many have never even known exist. Not just words but many things are not shown or heard but Gunny does a great part. One thing I see alot of is the word "I" and "you" used. You never say the word "I" in boot, you do you get your "eye" poked! Always "the private"! USMC 75-79
I don't think there's a marine alive who does not get a sense of nostalgia when they hear the Gunny 'calmly' explaining matters to a group of newbies. LOL
Hoorah! You said it pal. This SF drama is my introduction to The Sarge. My favorite line from lee ermey in this scene: "1-2-3-4! I LOVE THE MARINE CORP! 1-2-3-4! I LOVE THE MARINE CORP!"
''i am not a officer , i work for a living'' LOL!!!! as soon as he said that i pictured a cop sitting on the side of the road drinking coffee and doing nothing.
"In space, no one can hear you scream, unless its the battle cry of a United States Marine"
Hell Yea!!!!
Semper fi
There is no noise in space.
@@cardo718 there's also no air
@@Nhia89 Indeed. I learned enough about physics in college to know that I know very little about physics.
In the future the Marine Corps will no longer train drill instructors. Instead they will use Hartman clones :)
Fuckin A I hope so.
Fr like he's amazing
"I'm not an officer I work for a living"
LOL
Best line ever, my Gunny told me that. Semper Fi!
Classic line!!! LMAO
That line should have come as soon as anyone called him “Sir”. (:
"Invoking bowel wrenching fear into the dark hearts of your enemies!" "Officer?!? I'm not an officer! I WORK for a living!!!" R. Lee Ermey freakin' RULES!!!
LET ME SEE YOUR WARFACE!
+GySgt. Hartman AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
hey...........👬
RRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
BULLSHIT! You didn't convince me!
Sir?

He certainly was. Stew FMJ Crew.
"In space no one can hear you scream unless its the battlecrie of the US Marine. " This made me laugh so hard
"In space, noone can hear you scream, unless it's the battlecry of a United States Marine". ...I sure hope that gets adopted as a USMC phrase once we do get to space.
He’s now a Heavenly Space Marine RIP
I loved this show! If there's a US Marine Corps in our future, the future still offers hope.
"I am not an officer, I work for a living" LMFAO!!!!!!!!
"in space noone can hear you scream.. unless it is the battlecry of a unites states marine"... best quote from ermy.. ever..
"in space no one can hear you scream, unless its the battle cry of a United States Marine!"
...Classic.
He went really easy on them... Guess they had to tone it down because it isn't an "R" rated Kubrick film like FMJ
This is a fantastic show.
Used to watch it back in the day on Channel 4 at 1am. :-)
I'm guessing this is Channel 4 Television Corporation in the UK?
"In space, nobody can hear you scream, unless you're a marine!"
Priceless!!!
OOO-RAH!!!
0:50-0:52: Wang mistaken the Drill Instructor for a police officer. I love the part where Sergeant Major Bougus--played by R. Lee Ermey--carried his swagger stick.
R. Lee Ermey playing a drill instructor? That's just crazy enough to work!
God I love R. Lee Ermey. Rest now soldier. That is all.
Outstanding gunny. R I P

Wow thanks i never knew that...Lee's lunch partner...Crew FMJ>
This is like watching bloopers of Full Metal Jacket I love it
He was a real Drill Instructor and meritoriously promoted to Gunney after retiring because of his dedication to the Corps in the tv and movies that he did.
"In space, no one can hear your battle cry unless it is that of a United States Marine."
LMAO!! Yeah Gunny!!!
If only he had gotten that promotion in real life that would be the most honorable R.I.P. Gunnery Sgt Ermy
I would watch this series again and its sequels maybe someday. One of the streaming platforms should be interested in this great title.
Its on youtube...
Long live the R.Lee Ermey!
I've never seen this before. Outstanding.
Top shelf legend reminiscent of old school thinking, it worked.
I loved that part, if they did a second season of Space: Above and Beyond, I wish they showed Bogaus going through a new group of recruits for the Wildcards (considering all but three have died. R. Lee Emery is the best.
When there is a need for a DI in any commercial or movie, R. Lee Ermey is the BEST!
My Drill instructor was called "Jim" he was a nice mellow guy. He bought us all ice creams on our first day on Parris Island and we all went to the beach
It was lovely
HE was in heaven doing this role. HE one hell of a drill sergeant.
He was not a drill sergeant, he was a God damn DRILL INSTRUCTOR. The army has drill sergeants, the Marine Corps has DRILL INSTRUCTORS. They are two different species entirely. Simper Fi.
Oh man... that brought back memories I'd rather not recall.
I love that in 2064 the F18 will still be in service
Gunny Rules! Man, I used to LOVE that show, too bad he was only in the pilot. R. Lee Ermey best drill sergeant in history!
"In Space...noone can hear your scream" :-) SOOO brilliant...
lol goddamn Lee Ermey is gold
I ve just download the whole series to refresh memmories of these good old times...touching.
It was the Gunny who turned Halo's Master Chief from a wimpy cadet to a one man killing machine. Thank you Gunny R. Lee Emery.
love this guy, he's a die hard Marine
There was once a survey of recruits just finishing basic. Most said it was too hard. After combat, the same recruits said Boot Camp was too easy.
I just love it! Brings back so many memories to hear a DI chewing up recruits. Sure this is sanitized just as FMJ and any other Marine Corp Drill instructor on film. LET ME SEE YOUR WAR FACE!
SIR?
AHHHHHHHH!
Mister Ditkovich AAAAAAHHHHH!!!
"In space, no one can hear you scream, unless it's battlecry of United States Marine"
He's goddamn right
He was at our ball this year!!
i love this show, if you don't have it then get it, it's called space above and beyond.this scene is hilarious : )
i love this guy
LOL, "I'm not an officer, I work for a living!"
I don't think there's a marine alive who does not get a sense of nostalgia when they hear the Gunny 'calmly' explaining matters to a group of newbies. LOL
It's the Full Metal Jacket DI! Must see movie!
Lol. Gotta love Ermey. Ha, and check out the f-18's in the hanger..Still flying those at that time, are we?
Oh my god, the last line is brilliant.
"I am not an officer! I work for a living!"
XDDDDDDDDDD
Even if Honorary. This guy has been a Dream to the Marine corps and is one of the corps greatest embassadors.
R. lee Ermey was The only Marine Promoted after Retiring. he was a Staff sergeant and is an Honorary Gunny sargeant.
that is all
R Lee Ermey was the best marine DI
Space Force recruit training looks intense
...and he will live, Forever...
Hoorah! You said it pal. This SF drama is my introduction to The Sarge. My favorite line from lee ermey in this scene: "1-2-3-4! I LOVE THE MARINE CORP! 1-2-3-4! I LOVE THE MARINE CORP!"
"In Space, no one can hear you scream unless it is the battle cry of the United States Marines!" Mark OUT!
R. Lee Ermey is so old that he was a senior drill instructor when God was a private !!
lawl!!!
"no officer sir"
"officer! do i look like a officer to you? i work for a living"
ROFL
''i am not a officer , i work for a living'' LOL!!!! as soon as he said that i pictured a cop sitting on the side of the road drinking coffee and doing nothing.
holy shit this is funny and totally unexpected. he must have a great sense of humor to make this kind of stuff !
Fun...Ya got to love R.Lee Ermey...made this old war horse laugh....USMC 1965-1969
I love the last line pertaining to "Alien". It would have been SOOOOO awesome if he could've played the role of Sergeant Apone in "Aliens"
The moviemakers wanted a different actor, and so they got Al Matthews as Apone.
Another great show ended before its time.
There is nothing more motivating than 3, I said three, maggots, United States Marine Drill Instructors yelling at one slimey Private!
Lee Ermey once fought Chuck Norris. They came out without a scratch, and Death knew to back the hell away from both of them.
Use to love this to bad it was canceled, just when it was getting good.
I love this guy!
It is on DVD now, check amazon
'i am not an officer I work for a living' LMAO
R. Lee Ermey Rules!
Oh crap, a Sergeant Major as a senior drill instructor.
This was a cool show. I miss the '90s.
"i am not an officer I WORK FOR A LIVING" ahahha best line ever
Got to love the Gunny!
he uses the battlecry scene from FMJ in this scene lol...it's priceless!
Ooh-Ra! Semper Fi, Gunny!
SYOTOS!
WOW...they promoted him, gave him more ribbons, and made him give a non-cursing speech.
R Lee is a real man love him 💋❤️👅
The best part is, NONE of that is from full metal jacket, full metal jacket is basically a Marine Corps documentary.
R. Lee rules!
He straight up rules !
Fantastic irony!
Officer?! I am not an officer, I work for a living!
Haha!
"Pyle, Why is there a Jelly Donut in your footlocker?"
If this was a Star Trek episode...gunny could make klingon recruits panic.
Yeah, his speech here is SO sanitized compared to Full Metal Jacket. And surprisingly, it works.
R. LEE ERMEY rocks
R Lee Emery Kicks ass, even in PG-13 Format
i love the his smokey bear
I loved this programme, i use to watch this years ago. I cannot remember how it ended. I think they found out the aliens weakness.
he's got the perfect voice for military stuff
Sergeant Hartman did not die, he was sent 100 years forward in time.
"I AM NOT AN OFFICER! I WORK FOR A LIVING!"
Lmao.
Oh come on! I wanna hear the whole speech! This guy is the best DI ever!
