The fuzzy sack that is in Mango's cage is very dangerous! I am saying this because my Crimson Bellied Conure; Lyla, almost died from this. She had been chewing on it for about a year, and the fuzz had started to get caught up in her crop. She couldn't digest her food and get the nutrients, so she got very weak. The vet did a surgery on her (which was life-risking) and pulled out all of the fuzz that was in her crop. (It was about the size of a cotton ball).
So please, get one made out of timothy hay or something. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO YOUR BIRD!!

I was going to post something similar. A tunnel made of PVC pipe or an open ended wooden box lined something natural is safer.

I have a jenday conure and named it mango lol, my GCC only lived 8 years but her name was chutney, the names go together even though they never met each other.
Tiny cage with one dowel perch, one toy, and a dangerous fuzzy hut. A+ work!
Also the perch on top is grapewood, not manzanita.

Adorable bird ~ from my research and understanding happy/cozy huts like that are not recommended and can be very dangerous for birds. They can chew the fleece/fabric and that can cause crop impaction. Sometimes they chew holes from the inside so you may not notice they've been chewing on it. Some birds can also become hormonal over these types of huts and act aggressively/territorial over them. In my opinion that cage is definitely too small and boring, especially for a conure. Nothing to be impressed and amazed by (not trying to be harsh, just giving my honest opinion in hopes it may help someone interested in getting a bird) :) Birds need a variety of perches and toys. I could be wrong but I only see one perch which looks just like a smooth dowel perch - it is not recommended that they only have dowel perches as this can cause bumblefoot (since dowel perches have no texture or change in diameter). Mango needs a variety of perches in his cage. Natural wood perches are one wonderful option. He also should have a variety of toys, especially some foraging toys. Toys should be rotated so they don't get bored. I keep at least 5 toys in my parrotlets cage at a time and he has a bunch more that I can rotate out (he also has 5 additional toys attached to his playstand). The minimum width a cage should be for a conure like Mango is 24" and that's minimum. There is no way that cage is 24" wide as my parrotlets cage is so I can tell that one is not unfortunately. I'd also recommend putting perches/toys further down so Mango is encouraged to explore his cage more than just the top area. To sum it up remove the fleece hut, get a wider cage and add a variety of toys & perches. Hope this helps and that you have a lovely day :) Mango is a cutie!

We just recently got our baby GCC he is 4 months old and loves his cozy corner. He is a very happy loving cuddly boy and we couldn’t be more excited to have him in the family ❤️❤️ we are first time Conure owners but not first time bird owners. So we are excited to see all his quirks and watch him grow !

My Grey wasn't that in to toys either.I always joked thst he was more of an intellectual 😉because what interests them seems to be more what you are doing, like learning all your behaviors and mannerisms. My favorite birds in the world!
that is a baby sun conure. they are a more yellow color at a young age. and become orange the older they get. my 15 year old sun conure is a sunset color

Phillip Robertson No it's not, the wings of a Sun conure are completely green. Jendays have speckles of yellow feathers on the top half of there wings.
Obviously you don't know what your talking about. Because you need to look up juvenile suns and jenday and adult suns and jendays. Because I have both a sun and a jenday. And my breeder has them all the time so I know what the differences are. And that good sir is a sun conure.
PokieTheGecko Flip it around. Jenday's have all green wings and sun's have speckles of yellow. I'd know my girlfriend and i have two jenday's.

The tray is a cute idea but it's better to buy bird safe toys. Random wire and beads can be very dangerous and may be toxic if chewed.
Use beads and stuff that are for small children, they are safe for birds too. How about birds in nature like Kea's that get around people and eat all that they can find, they don't get killed, a bird knows what's eadible and what not.They are far from stupid.But certain paint can be dangerous so use those playthings for small children that are tested

Marlene, I really enjoyed the very informative video to help us first time bird owners make the right decisions on purchasing cages and accessories deigned for the type bird we have. I bought a A&E Flight Cage 1/2 inch bar spacing for my Pineapple Conure I have owned for 2 mos. now and he's very funny and loves to play in my hair and hang upside down like a bat on my shirt .. LOL ...... Mango is the name I had decided on too for my Conure. I have a big variety on foods on order with Chewy.... so the lil fella will have all sorts of foods to forage around in besides all the veggies I chop up for him/her as well...haha I'm making myself blush but I think you are so beautiful !! Have a Blessed Weekend My Friend ; . )
One of the main things I saw wrong with this cage set up was the was the fuzzy sack. Birds, especially conures, tend to get very hormonal and territorial from these. Not only that but the fabric is very dangerous, they can chew it up ingest it. It can cause serious problems to your birds health and I recommend taking it out or making a safe homemade one. The next thing I saw is that lack of toys and perches. I noticed there is only one perch and it is a dowel. Dowels are the same size all the way across. When birds don't have much variation where they can rest their feet they can weaken and this could lead to a disease called bumblefoot. The last thing I recommend is adding a few more toys inside of the cage, you mentioned how the cage door is open a lot of the day so its not like he's stuck in there a lot but its good for birds to have a lot of variety in toys and things to keep them busy. (I know this is a lot and I don't mean to hate I am just tying to give advice to Mangos owners and possibly people thinking about getting conures!)

He isn't a sun conure because his wings are totally green but since he has a lot of yellow, its also possible that he is a Jenday mixed with a sun conure, which is a Sunday conure. He is still so young but after his first big molt, we will know better.
Yes, def looks like a young Sun to me. Possible there was a Jenday somewhere up the line.
MARLENE MC'COHEN I'm sorry I still kind of don't understand, we have a bird just like mango but we have been calling him a sun conure. So if I understand correctly you said if there's more green on the wings then it's a jenday? And if there's more yellow it's a sun conure? I feel kind of bad because I told the vet he is a sun conure and if he's not oopsy.
Similarly, you notice
sun conures when young tend to have alot of green that goes away alot around the almost year old mark. and tend to get rid of most if not all of the green around the almost 2 year mark
I have the same cage, and took a blackout curtain, cut to size and put Velcro on it and the cage all way around below the playtop to cover the cage while he sleeps. I was proud of my innovative creation.

It's great, just make the cage maybe 3 times bigger get rid of the happy hut take out the dowel and add natural wood perches and add toys as well as take out the green millet holder in there

Just a heads up to everyone watching.... conures tends to rip apart those cozy corner beds. I had a sun conure that actually got a strand of it around it’s neck and accidentally killed itself, just be careful to watch to make sure it doesn’t happen to your birds if they like to rip at things

I had a Mango of my own, she was a Pineapple Conure and sadly passed away 2 weeks ago. This set up is pretty nice because I know how much conures want to be outside their cage.
Uhmm, it isn't really a good set up... I think the cage is too small, happy huts/cozy corners r really bad for birds, there is only 1 perch and it's a dowel, and 0 toys so.... I don't think it's really good and the beads look small so he has a chance of swallowing it which will not be good at all

My budgies(parakeets.) are really fun.
One loves to hang on my hand and other just wants to sit and shred through papers and things.
Or eat my hair when she's close enough to it.
I love them just as much as my cockatiel who prefers cuddles.
It really depends on what you're looking for.
As for you not sounding so grilled about the budgie....not w great attitude to have going into a relationship with a bird. Budgies live a fairly long time in comparison to most pets as well

I just bought a 3 year old Male Sun Conure. 3rd home in his short 3 year life. We'll be his forever home.
Both previous care givers didn't have time for the little guy. 😣
Anyway, 1 cool thing that came with him and his cage is a T made from PVC. Some creative person took a bunch of PVC pipes you'd use for plumbing and built this thing.
It's like a puzzle you can move perches around change the configuration, it has hangers on it for multiple toys, they wrapped ace self stick bandages in multiple colors for non skid perching.
The ace wrap like they use when you donate blood.
It's a great size for medium size and small bits, but for larger birds I'd go with a larger size pipe.
He plays on it for hours. When he's bored with it he flies back to his cage or my shoulder.

The yellow bed is a hazard. We had a Linnie lose a toe because thread gor wrapped around it and by time we noticed and got it off the toe was lost.

I want a pet jenday but im not sure if I should get one beacause i won't be at home during the day beacuse of school will i be able to leave my bird alone or should i forget the idea because i wont have time
Well if you come home from school and will spend all of the time you are at home with your bird, then it could work. But birds are difficult, they are not like other pets that can just hang out and chill, they want to literally be on you all day long. So whatever you are doing, expect your bird to basically be right there while you do it. If that sounds fun, imagine it this way...you can't ever do anything without a bird in your face again :) Right now, I have to type this with Jersey in my lap or she will be upset.

If you use cozy beds for birds make sure you check them often! I used to use these for my Jenday and blue crown but found they would open it up and go inside which wasn't a big deal until they really started opening up the strings. I have had issues with little feet getting caught. Fortunately I caught it early (the birds actually chewed the back of these so I didn't notice right away). I use one of these in my room if I have a lazy night and Tiki (my Jenday) needs a place to sleep.
As for mango, he is quite a charmer! Love the perches - thank you for the inspiration!
I have heard of seagrass tents... they seem to be safer because there is no way the bird could get caught. I'm getting a conure next year and that's what I'm getting :)

I made a perch with a oval piece of wood that I fastened a bucket lid to that I can remove and clean but the pan idea is MUCH better!!!

Hi! I know this was last year, but this is great for people who are getting this.
So that yellow cozy sack thingy on his cage, that is actually so bad.
It's dangerous for ANY bird. I have heard reviews from this, that their bird passed away and it's nails got stuck, and so on.
I recommend you to get a hooded perch for the winter or around cold times. Hooded perch is a perch with a hoodie on top. That way your bird is safe and cozy. Thank you! Very nice video (:

If your conure is usually free roam as they should be IMO...take off the wood and put a blanket or two over like a tent, then put another hanging bed up top. they love it and can seek darkness when they want to retire even if a lamp is on ect. mine will usually take that bed over the one in the cage.
If you do that or just leave the door open at night without, you may want to leave a small bit of light on in case something spooks them and they go into flight. they really dont need much to see well enough to not junebug off every wall.
also, mine is a guard bird. anyone who enters, friend or foe will surely not sneak in. on the downside, the pizza man outside may not be safe. heat seeking conure out of nowhere, bloody ear and he didnt drop the pizza.
if your bird likes curling to sleep don't get a hut they're dangerous and can cause impaction if eaten- buy a platform perch (you can get ones that go in the corner if that's where they like to sleep) or rougher platforms that go on the side that can be useful to trim nails over time

Those cozy corners (and the like) are the most dangerous thing you can have in your cage. Google it and be surprised at the deaths and injuries...

Hi I was just curious about your opinion on the snuggle huts ? I've seen lots of bad reviews about birds getting tangled up in lose threads and being killed I'm scared to buy one ? And also read they encourage egg laying and aggression ? I like the idea of them but I'm scared to put one in the cage now
As long as they don’t chew them your fine I have the same color but for my Luna she loves it don’t chew it so she’s fine I bought it for my cockatiels they didn’t use it so I put it in my conures cage and didn’t see her one day thought she got out here she was found asleep in the hut😂❤️😍

I got my bird a coz. They decided they wanted to sit on it and chew the cords. As usually, the look of disbelief when it finally fell over. Don't know what I can do with those two.
