I reversed this NON-REVERSIBLE motor! They said it couldn't be done.

- Non-Reversible. Ha! I knew it could be done. Those videos and diagrams make it look overly complicated. I don't need to know how a single phase induction motor works. I just want to know how to reverse it. I asked around and was told by two "engineers" it couldn't be done because the tag said so. I just dove in and discovered there's really nothing to it. Never mind the discussions about start capacitors, run capacitors, run windings, single voltage vs dual voltage, etc. It's all irrelevant.

Absolute life saver. While I didn't dig into the windings as you did your comment on flipping the rotor around to reverse the direction worked perfectly for my motor! I thought I'd wasted days making custom hubs and mounts for a motor I'd have to replace but now it's installed and my dust blower is hurling chips across the room!
Thanks for taking the time to post your comment. I'm glad the video helped you, although sort of indirectly. Isn't it cool when you learn to do the impossible?
This might have just saved my heart from exploding. Been working on how to reverse my motor for several hours now. Thanks alot for your effort and posting this
I'm so glad it may have helped someone! Did you get it running?
Thank you for sharing, I needed to change the direction on a table saw motor and thought it could be done but didn't quite know how to go about it. Your explanation was clear and easy to understand. Thanks again
Very good video, I need to try that I need to reverse my lathe motor. I saved our
Video and will check on it from time to time. Again thanks.

😊
Well done man. Thanks for sharing.
Exellent work my friend. I have one question. I have one AC motor from kichen aspirator. How can I change motor rotation clockwise and vice versa? The motor have two wires.
Thank you so much, I just did it and it worked! Bought the wrong motor and accomplished it. 😊
Awesome!
Do a video on instant reverse, electric motors that’s what I need to learn about
It worked for three starts but then humming and then not spinning fast enough to kick out the start circuit. Did i fry a capacitor?. My motor looks very similar to yours. 110 volt single phase with 2 capacitors.
Im building a electric bike, and i have a question about the rotation of the motor. I've built my diy bike, but the motors spinning the wrong direction. Im using a 24v permanant magnet 350w motor. How can I reverse the direction of the motor? I have it hooked up to a 2 pin rocker switch and a 22.2v 1400mah battery and it all works, but how would i have to change it if i wanted to make it go the opposite direction? Its going clockwise now, but i want it to go counter clockwise. If i swap the connectors on the motor ( like connect positive motor wire to negative battery wire and negative motor wire to positive battery wire ), would that work?
Cool video very well explained thank you
Thanks this is very helpful
Why did you have to change the wires where they connect to the windings and not at the end?
If you take a look at 3:05 I'd already cut open the paper and string wrap, but some of the winding wires combine (splice) with other winding wires under the paper and string wrap. So you have to open it up to catch the winding wires before the splices. In a reversible motor, each winding wire as its own wire end so you can swap the wires as you please. Non-reversible seems to just mean they didn't do that for you.
thank you for sharing
l flow you vedio and it work with me🙂
Great! I am glad it worked for you. I knew this information would help someone one day.
Any capacitor start/run induction motor can be reversed. Not necessarily easy as you point out because they hid the wires, but it can be done.
Yes, I figured it had to be possible. Unfortunately, when I asked around on the engineering discussion forums and an "engineer" who posts his woodworking projects on CZcams, I was shut down. These were supposedly electrical engineers. Both felt like if the label says it can't be done, it can't be done.
@@redneckoriental Well good work, luckily you kept digging.
They may be self-degreed electrical engineers or they may have neglected to mention it's possible but maybe difficult. Anyway, to locate the start winding, find the winding that's in series with the start capacitor. Every winding has at least two ends, so locate both ends of this winding and isolate it from the other windings (make sure there are no connections to other windings). Now to reverse direction, simply reverse the "polarity" of the start winding.
I bet you've helped plenty of others to figure this out, so good on you and thanks!
Great I guess the two capacitors r only run and only star
i love this vid buddy i also fucking hate the word cant like chicks hate cunt and as the gentleman befor me here have spent too much time trying to reverse a baldor for a large yard winch im fabracobblin .. i digress..u rock !!!!
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad it helped and hope you got it working. I somehow understood everything you wrote. I guess we work on the same wavelength.
