I don’t think he’s saying that decreasing calories won’t help you lose weight. I think he’s saying counting calories is a bandaid, for a problem that could be solved a better way. 100 calories of refined sugar is way worse than 100 calories of protein.

@@xd-bt3xs well it’s kind of like using grams as a metric to diet, decreasing the weight would probably decrease body weight. Now if you go from only eating 2-3 pounds of meat to eating 1 pound of sugar then you’re probably not gonna lose weight.

5:37 "Get the insulin down". People (even in these comments) still push "Calories in, Calories out" or say 600 calories of pizza is equal to 600 calories of raw food - which never made sense to me. But this recommendation to reduce insulin makes perfect sense. It's not that reducing calories won't make you lose weight, the point is that calorie focus is too flawed. Instead, a focus on insulin is the correct and more effective approach to lose weight, or avoid weight gain.

When eaten in moderation the fructose we eat is mostly converted to glucose in the small intestine and enters the blood stream as such. When we overwhelm our intestines ability to convert the fructose to glucose then fructose will be processed in the liver to either glucose or fat depending on what energy needs the body is currently facing. If we followed how we ate during winter we would be more healtier and only gain fat under skin againts winter. Like Inuit do.

Fundamentally, if you consume less calories than your maintenance, you will lose weight. This of course goes in conjunction with eating healthier and more nutritious foods that are high volume, low calories and keep you satiated. Avoid calorie dense low volume foods that do not fill you up but significantly add to your caloric intake without realising. Track your food and macros, choose the healthier options and ease into a sustainable caloric defecit and you will lose weight. I started doing this in July weighing 104kg. Im now 76kg by doing all of the above. If you're consuming healthy but calorie dense foods i.e. potatos, rice, fruites and nuts and are going over your maintenance you will not lose weight... simple.

It works every time regardless of what I eat. So I wouldn't demonize calorie restriction as a tool for weight loss. I do agree that sugar should be avoided as much as possible. Other than my coffee (which I outright refuse to give up btw) I don't have a simple scrap of plant matter in my pantry or fridge. It's all animal based. Use drugs to solve the problem equals the user does nothing to change.

Watching a biochemist destroying the concept of calorie is oddly satisfying. Similar to the way Jordan Peterson destroys toxic feminists.

The calorie is everything. You can't overcome thermodynamics. If you burn more than you eat you lose weight. Listen to bodybuilders and fighters, they understand how to lose weight.

@mabe_productions semantics aside you cannot change calories in calories out... facts in isn't debatable. Argueing with the law of thermodynamics is like argueing against the law of gravity.

@@MrZola1234We don't burn proteins. We don't burn fibers. Closest to burning (mitochondria making ATP) is our body using fats and glucose. Problem with glucose is that if you oversupply your body with it, it will switch into powersaving mode(high insulin and insulin resistance) which will make affected tissues sick a deteriorating and gaining fat in others. And calories burning will be slowed down. And if for example your brain develops insuline resistance you loose control. That's the reason for overeating. Brain will be slowly dying and developing dementia. At that stage your only option is to switch to other energy source like fats and ketones to heal insuline resistance.

@zperdek if you you want to lose weight, you have to eat less calories than you burn, period. There is no way around this.

@@MrZola1234 But only fat and sugars count as calories. If you cut fat you will destroy your hormones and ability to heal cell walls + brain is more than 30% fat and that needs recovery too. If you cut carb calories your body don't have to struggle with inflammation and don't have releasing insulin which would block healing and fat burning process.

Here's what your fitness influencer couldn't tell you. Enzymes, transporters, mitochondrion. All he can do is swing a barbell and his world is simple: TDEE = BMR + TEF + NEAT + TEA + EPOC
