Have front AND rear set up for 5 years on my GLI MKV here are my thoughts:
* Front end would dunk with front calipers only, once i got the rears its a like cougar clamping on a tree.
* Skip spacers, they only gave me problems in the long run.( broken hubs, Balancing issues, lack of studs makes it a bitch to mount wheels every time)
* 35mm Offset wheels will be needed to clear front calipers. OR.... buy any of the Phaeton 18' wheels as they clear with no mods. ( thats my spare tire)
* Skip refurbished calipers and buy used original instead. Reason is calipers are aluminum but refurbished ones use steel pistons instead of aluminum pistons as original. After many heat/cool cycles they would always seize. OR..... save and buy NEW.
* constant warped rotors were an issue. Fixed with two piece ones from Racing Brake. Not cheap but worth it.
* Loooooonnnnng pedal travel, specially after all four were done. Fixed with TTRS/TTS/TT3.2 master cylinder.
Last but not least, brakes pads:
*Skip the whole Hawks line up, they suck and will gunk up your wheels and pretty calipers in a day. Red/yellow/rainbow stuff from EBC were not much better. Same goes for Pagid as well.
Solution?
* Believe it or not the run of the mill BOSCH bite/modulate/last/consistent 99% of the ones mentioned above with 10% of brake dust at 30% of the price.
* OR.... ET300, ET500 from Racing brake are AMAZING. Bitches are immortal as i can't seem to wear them down, invisible brake dust and they bite and clam over and over and over with no fade.
About the ET's: they have a poor initial bite and will need to be warmed up for optimal use.
Wow, that's a lot of info!!! Thanks for your input!
Ricardo Martinez, excellent detail! Gr8 advice. I have a 2016 Mk7 GTI S (base model so small brakes). You should write a more detailed account with video of your car!
Would you know if this approach works with Mk7?
Thanks for the detailed info. Much help.
Ricardo, were the rear as easy a fit as the front?
Are you sure the TT3.2 and tts Master cylinder works? they look different
I’m about to do this upgrade, it looks so good . Can’t wait to see it on!
Massive! Looks amazong
Nice easy upgrade!
I couldn't believe how easy this was!
Boost Brothers Garage where can I find the hub centric insert for the rotor ??
hello! What about bolts that fit calliper ? you make it or buy new ? if new - where ?
hello this calipers are the 17z or 18z and from what mercedes ml they came the disc i want put the 18z in my audi a4
They’re called rotor centric rings. The hubs are different sizes. You can see the rotor center isn’t snug. Hub centric rings are for after the rotor for the wheel.
ive used the r32 rotors and pushed the caliper's pins to make some clearance between the caliper pins and the rotor
If they are designed stop something that's 3 tonne and 400bhp wonder what its like on a small hatchback lol.
Got to have a look into getting this for my mk5 gti. Gonna need new discs and pads soon anyway!
Thank you so much
i went with the r20 upgrade on my mk5 gti from 312mm to 345mm plus performance ebc disc including steel brakeline. plus upgrade disc en pads on the rear its a great upgrade. greets from the netherlands
Zou je me ff kunnen vertellen waar ik die kan bestellen?
@@dme9526 yo, ja marktplaats in de gaten houden, komen complete sets voorbij
Good afternoon guys, I do have MK5 GOLF at the moment.
Can you please tell me which Cayenne model the clippers came from and also which Mercedes ML model the discs came from so that I can pin point it.
Many thanks guys.
Damn that the biggest caliper I’ve ever seen
I drive a stock Seat Cupra ST which is basically a front wheel drive golf wagon. It is the sub8 version which comes stock with brembo 4 pot calipers and 370mm discs. Amazing brakes! And come on the car stock.
Saw the video! Looking to do the same upgrade to my mk5 gti. So the Porsche calliper bolts directly onto the carrier ?
Thanks for the video can you tell me can 17inch wheels fit on those calipers?
If you ran 8mm spacers, do you think the wheel would clear the outside of the caliper? How much wider are these calipers from the center of the rotor fins to the inside of the face of the rim?
omg do you have any more video from this car with this brakes?
Hi, there’s a chance to do it on a golf mk4? Btw great video!!
Wish you guys were closer I would love to do this swap but I don’t have the skills for a diy. Id put 2008 R32’s on the rear as well unless you have a better crossover match .
Will this work for the tdi wagon just curious
Are those the 350mm rotors or 330mm? I would like to do the same setup but retain my 17" wheels.
I have same type wheel, can I install the 17z kit without spacers?
What mm size is the disc? that looks awesome!
WOW! I have an F250 Superduty as a tow rig and this caliper looks almost as large as my truck caliper!! It weighs 7500 pounds, lol.(the truck not the caliper) That's awesome!! Good video!
Jack Allen yeah, they match the calipers on my tow vehicle. They are literally off of a Cayenne.
I have been looking at buying a Cayenne lately and this makes me want one even more! Thanks for the reply!!
Jack Allen no sweat! I will say, I tow ~4500lbs with mine. Car, open trailer and equipment/tires. It does great even on long trips. My Pig is an ‘04 and I’ll trust it just about any distance.
Fit brembo to f250
These look a lot like q7 calipers 🤔 do you think they would work on an s5?
Hey, what 17" wheels is that and what's the size of the spacer?
I have the same bbk but I'd like to run 17's instead of 18"
Hi, i have one question. Did the Caliper mounts in front of the wheel hub or behind ?
Wanna try this set up for my Mk7 gti . How is everything going two years after ?
One question, what are the specs of the wheel ? Size J / ET / Offset . And what 18" wheel specs will fit the brembo 18z?
What wheels did you end up fitting over these?
what about rear callipers ? any bolt on solution ?
Would this work for a 2011 Audi A3 fwd tdi from my understanding the golf and a3 share a lot of parts also what forum did you find that out at love to join it
i don't want to use spacers, any help whit wheels? some oem vag 18''
Hey guys, will that fit to scirocco as well?
Do you know if this will fit for any mark 3 Golf.
Did you machine the calipers to fit them?
I have 18" detroit wheels on my mk5 golf gti. Is 15mm spacers enought for those brake calipers?
Hey ..do u use front or rear ml 350 rotors?
BTW, Cayenne and VW Toreag calipers are the same. You can probably save yourself a few bucks if you can do without the Porsche logo. They have 4 piston and 6 piston versions. Either one is a huge upgrade from the VW single piston caliper.
I also read somewhere that the caliper bolt is much bigger on the big brake calipers. I saw somebody solved this issue by using the smaller stock bolts, but using an insert sleeve in the caliper to take up the extra room, so there's no slop.
I have 19" rims on my Audi A4, but I kept my stock 17" rims for snow tires. I heard they might still fit. I'm curious to find out for sure. I'm not likely to change out my front brakes when I drive to the snow.
Which brake pump did you use?
Ey guys that awesome is possible you can put the list of the parts in your project? Cheers
What year are the ml350 rotors and what year are the cayenne calipers
Hello! This is cayenne turbo 955 calipers? They installed without any caliper spacers?
Will porsche cayenne 2013 s calipers fit mk7r?
Nice upgrade! Are the hubcentric spacers made specifically for this upgrade or are they normal 5x112pcd hubcentric spavers? (I noted the spigot diameter in the middle doesnt match to the mercedes spigot)
Thanks! There are a few places to get them, pretty universal. They are 67mm to 65mm hubcentric rings. This link has a lot of good info! www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209
Do you think i can fit this caliper on passat b6? With this mercedes rotor?
Thanks for the vid I was wondering what OEM calipers would fit. Do you know if the rears would be aswell also would these clear 17"s?
To my knowledge the rears do not fit. When running the 330mm rotors you should clear 17’s
@@BoostBrothersGarage thanks man well I assumed those calipers wouldn't I was more concerned with a big brake kit for the rear that was an OEM from another vehicle
I have Brembo ZR18 from Q7, 6 pot calipers...
Will they fit to A4 B8 3.0 TDI Quattro?
A4 have 320mm stock disc, but option disc in shop is 345x29 5X112.
could y put 368mm rotor with that caliper ?
Will they fit a4 b6
How does the pedal feel
hello friend, do you have information if i can do this upgrade on 2009 vw passat cc 2.0 tsi front wheel drive
whith 17z & ml 350 disc equipments?
will this work with mkv rabbit 2.5
Front Original disc height 49.9 mm thickness 22-25mm, With Porscher caliper for disc 69mm thickness 32-34mm, then you put mercedes M Disc with height 55mm thickness 29.4-32! Any problem for piston movement! What pads we should use for it!?! M or cayenne ? And how about the rear one!?!
Tks for advise!
Hey Guys, great channel by the way.
Quick questions: (Cayenne's calipers from which year of production).
1- How does this upgrade affect front and back brake bias?
2- What type of upgrade do you guys have planned for the rear?
3- No master cylinder or any other brake components necessary (stainless brake lines, brake plates adaptors, etc..)
4- What type of brake fluid are you guys using, and last questions.
5- The hub centric "adaptor" is necessary to space out the wheels to clear the calipers or just to make sure the wheels are centered?
Thanks!
Again, love the channel.
Thanks!!! I’ll post a link at the end of this comment with all the components you need, model numbers, etc.
The brake lines are off another VW and are a direct bolt on, no need for custom stainless one.
As for brake bias and rear mods, we are going to run a regular street pad up front and a race of in back to even out the bias for now. The first track event of the year is two weeks from now so we will see how it does, but so far so good. No master cylinder mods needed yet!
www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209
Do 4 piston ones fit?
Is this for front and rear?
what occupying lines
Link the hub centric rings exactly
hopefully someone can answer my question. lm looking to buy the ECS tuning big break kit that don't include the calipers. I want to buy the calipers separate because its cheaper I've been looking on ebay and amazon and l found a few Porsche 955 cayenne calipers but not sure what year they have to be in order to put on my golf R 2013. they have 2003 to 2010. and l can't seem to find the part number on ebay. any help would be appreciated. thanks.
Did a similar project on my old car Evo 8 Brembo brakes on an Eclipse
Nice! I bet that was a big upgrade
It definitely was!! Front and rear started as single piston calipers and ended with 4 piston front and 2 piston rears.
Wow, huge change! GST, GSX?
The hub have 65 mm center hole for original dość brake and the ml 350 discs have 67 how do You Solve that problem ?
"stupid" question... What about the 4pot Benz calipers ... Is there any stock MB caliper that's a direct fit ?
(They're brembos anyway? )
What year Mercedes and Cayenne
What model cayenne these off
What year Mercedes and where can I order the hub rings?
Super upgrade, and happy to see some GTi content. Did you guys do the hydraulic equivalency maths? Physically fits doesn't automatically mean it is all right.
Not yet, but this is a well documented upgrade that is apparently proven to work well. But, we will know more when we shake it down! We will have quite a bit more GTI stuff coming over the next few weeks as we are in a race to get it done by Mid April.
www.tceperformanceproducts.com/bias-calculator/
Plug your before and after into that and compare. Todd at TCE is real good with brakes. He races at Pikes Peak so he'd probably be dead by now if he weren't.
Good stuff, thanks!
Needs the Master cylinder changed before it’s finished. Based on the guy I spoke with prior to doing this, he’s ran his track car for about 5 years in this configuration. He explained the pains he had prior to changing the MC so it’s going to get done as well.
Great vid! I can't wait to do mine! What year Touareg did you harvest from to fit the mkv?
Check this forum post out, it’s really helpful! www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209
That's a great write up, thanks for taking the time to do it! Love the forums for people generous with sharing valuable info!
Milllion dollar question, I've go access to the 4 piston brembo rears that use the same 330mm rotor. Any chance they could be used on the front of an mkv gli?
Unfortunately I can’t take credit for that forum post, we did use it as a reference though. Haven’t spent any real time researching the rear yet, sorry! Supposedly if you respond to the the guy that wrote that forum post he is a bit of a guru!
Can you guys post a parts list for the upgrade?
This link has a great breakdown:
www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209#
How would this affect the brake bias (front/rear) after install? Will this also affect the ABS?
Should not affect ABS. As for bias, Thomas is going to run standard pads up front and track pads in the rear to help solve that issue. Eventually, the rear may get a BBK as well.
That is awesome!!!! Subbed!!!
Will this work on the MK7 GTI?
Thanks! This is for Mk5 and Mk6. I’ll do some digging and see if I can find anything on it for Mk7
@@BoostBrothersGarage Does it work in mk7?
Anyone find out about the mk7
Outstanding! Would you know if it's also a fit for Mk7 GTI?
To my knowledge, this is MK5/6 only. At least that’s what it said during my research.
Boost Brothers Garage , thx!
What year ML350
Hey whats size this rims??
Do they just bolt up with the regular caliper bolts or do you have to get aftermarket bolts?
I link to a thread that explains what’s needed a few times in the comments, and I believe in the description as well. The factory bolts are reused but a “spacer” is inserted with the bolt.
What's the offset on those wheels?
what is the name of the color on those wheels?
How wide is the caliper from the mounting holes and Out to the edge? ✌ its About if my Wheels Will fit
I’ll check next time we head to the shop
Did you use the original MK5 bolts to mount the caliper? I see there are kits online. Have you got pictures of the inside of the caliper?
No pictures of the inside of the calipers. We did use the factory bolts, along with spacers (made of 1/2” copper tubing, 5/8” OD)
Creation Motorsports makes specialty bolts that have a larger diameter area and a smaller diameter area.
The calipers fits on jetta GLi mk6 (5x112mm) on the OEM mount center ???
Yeah, it’s the same as the mk5/mk6 GTI setup.
I added Boxster calipers and S4 rotors. Way more than enough for a 310 hp GTI. Cayenne brakes or overkill on these cars no matter how much hp you have.
hello i try make a upgrade the same like but i dont no the model disc fits in my upgrade i see you say ml350 rotors disc but the year of this ml350? i hope you cant help me
www.golfmkv.com/forums/index.php?threads/how-to-porsche-cayenne-vw-toureg-audi-q7-brembo-brakes.160399/
Are you using the 17z or 18z calipers on this setup? I have got the 18z calipers with 350mm discs and my lower ball joints are catching the rotor ever so slightly, was this ever an issue for you or so you know anything about this?
www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209
We followed these instructions, using the 17Z calipers and had zero issues.
Will these calipers fit straight onto the Golf carriers or would I need the Cayenne carriers.I'm in the UK so I think you guys call our Golf the Jetta.
Cheers guys.
I did a quick search and it looks like the GTI and the Jetta (your golf?) use different calipers from the factory. My assumption is no, but you would have to do some digging as I am by no means a VW expert!
What year Cayenne calipers are used in this upgrade? Also, is it the base or S model. This would be helpful. Thanks!
www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209
Dem. Binders. Doe.
Curious what the weight difference is between the Cayenne and stock calipers? Either way your channel just keeps getting better, keep up the great work gents!
Thanks dude! Having held both of the calipers, I think it's relatively minimal believe it or not. The Cayenne calipers are truly massive. I was joking with Thomas about the car doing a front flip the first time he hits the brakes lol.
Namesi sorry for the late reply here. The factory caliper is heavier by about 4-5oz. However, the rotors are heavier by 6 lbs. it is a huge impact to unsprung weight which I hope to eventually win back with other modifications. For now, I’ll live with a FWD that pushes a bit more than it used to for a brake that doesn’t overheat like the factory setup did.
Wow that's impressive that the Cayenne caliper is actually lighter! You are gonna need all the help you can get with all that booooooooost lol. Keep up the awesome work!
Sounds like you just need to make a set of rotors with aluminum hats. Then again, got draw the line somewhere! That time, effort and money should go to the 911 build.
wil they fit on the normal mk5 golf ? i got the r32 wheels but i dont know if they fit
Good question... I'm not 100% sure, but check this thread out as that is where I found a lot of good info: www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209
Hi folks how is brake pedal feel? Is the pedal travel bigger due to more fluid required to be compressed? Have been told that by increasing the volume might make pedal feel more spongy..?
We didn’t have that problem at all!
Hey, What's the brand of those rotors?
ULTRA ROTOR 980427
Can you please provide the year for the Mercedes ML350 rotors and the width of them, and also the year for the Porsche Cayenne Calipers. I really want to do this upgrade, but i dont want to order the wrong parts. Thanks.
The brake disc are from a MB ML 350 W164 from 2005 - 2011
What were these wheels? Im going to be doing the same bbk setup and want to run 17's
I have the same wheels on my MK5, they are actually stock wheels. Its the Premium optioned wheel. made by BBS
So what rear brake setup did you end up going with? Looking at doing this to my mk6
Running the stock brakes in the rear. However, the rear pads were upgraded to race pads and running street pads on the front to keep a decent bias. So far so good
@Crypto Maniac did you end up doing this for the mk6? Please let me know how it worked out ig: dutchess.green
Same setup works on the MK6.
Where is the rest of the story? How did they work out on the track and the street?
Worked great! Tons of stopping power and last forever.
Will this work for a 13’ CC 2.0T?
Yes.
Can i over z18 on this wheel know anybody?
Will this work on the MK6? And what about the rear brakes?
Yes.
Can it be done in golf mk5 2.0 tdi ?
I need more braking power and it looks amazing. Did you try to mod the rear brakes too ? Any ideas what parts to use ? Is there a big difference between gti and tdi for that mod ?
Great job guys you are making my day :)
Hey there, sorry for the delayed response. I’m not sure about the TDI but I would think it would work? For the time being, he ran street pads up front and race pads in the rear and it seems to be working well! Here is the link we used for all the info and part numbers: www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167209
@@BoostBrothersGarageThx guys ;). Do you have any ideas for rear disc mod that would mstch the design and size? It would be great to fabricate some kind of adapter and retrofit rear porsche calipers as well.
Unfortunately I don’t. The rotors Thomas used are from Rock Auto so you may check there to see if that manufacturer makes rotors for the rear. It’s definitely a cool design!
@@BoostBrothersGarage Thx for the fast reply :) Im student so it will take some time for me to gather money and build dream car :) might try to fabricate that myself :) waiting for more mods for golf mk5 :)
We’ve all been there, good luck!
Can the stock wheels be used with those brakes?
With 15mm wheel spacers and longer lug bolts.
Wonder if this kit would fit on a mk6 GTI
I believe so, there are some good threads out there that can confirm
Yes, it does. Same setup as the MK5.
