I really wish I had the room for a cnc, We are moving house next year and the goal is to have a bigger workshop built, then I can join in on all the CNC fun :)
Whilst you don't need a massive amount of space, its definitely worth planning everything out first. Mines 900 x 600 which isn't massive and been suitable for 99% of all my projects. Most cncs require some kind of control unit so that needs to be factored in. There was a couple of occasions I struggled (pinball machine for instance) and a bigger machine would have been great...but most of my projects are fun, small items. An 8 x 4 cnc might be over kill for making one of my coasters haha! If you buy one, you'll have fun with it. Opens up a lot of new doors. I just use mine for fun mainly and try and vary my projects so they dont feel repetitive. The good thing nowadays though is how popular they have become so theres so much help out there...a few years ago it was a case of buying one and hoping for the best :-)
I very rarely use the full length but I’m always using up the width. The length comes in handy though for anything guitar related although I’m fairly new to luthier work. But anything bigger and I’d not be able to get in the workshop 😂

@@Smugwood 900x600 seems like a decent size, My CO2 only has a cutting area of 500x300 and for most things that is fine.
