The fact wall jumping in Mario 64 is so awkward becomes even weirder when you remember Megaman X got it right... 3 years earlier. As in, that game has wall jumps work exactly like they do in modern Mario games.
Yeah, older Nintendo games have this weird obsession with making wall jumps unnecessarily difficult. Figuring out the rough timing for Super Metroid was a pain in the ass and even now I still usually just press when it feels like it should work and pray.

Wall jumping is actually super easy in Mario 64, its just completely backwards to how we are used to it nowadays. You have to jump after you hit the wall, even if you bump into it you have half a second to still jump off anyway. Just because bumping looks like the end of it, people tend to try to time it early instead
nothing like a clip of a disturbing mobile game ad where what appears to be a pregnant women gets hit in the stomach with a soccer ball and her water breaks, really needed to see that

I like the idea that Chaos could always be beaten easily, but Sonic can't swim.
Well, you have to think. How would anyone realistically be able to survive all that happens in the Perfect Chaos fight? With the water tendrils, the tornados, the debris, and either needing to swim up to Chaos' brain or be fast and athletic enough to use the debris to get near Chaos' head, I'd say any person, whether they're an olympic gymnast or swimmer, they'd have their work cut out for them. Mario has the gills of a fish, apparently (most of the time) and Sonic is well... Sonic.

As someone who's modded SM64 a significant amount, the fact that mario is able to use grind rails, boost pads, and use loops is absurd. Even if the code was ripped straight from sonic, there are so many different aspects that had to go into that, this is stupidly impressive. It's also really interesting seeing weird glitches, like that at 8:06, and having a good idea of why it's happening is really interesting.
This is not a mod of Mario 64, it's a mod of Sonic Generation, that makes it even more impressive in my opinion

How it works is anything that wouldn't work with sm64 he just swaps back to Sonic's code invisible and hijack the Mario to render specific animations and stick to Sonic's object.
Imagine being Eggman in this situation. You prepare an entire plan, team up with yourself from the past, and then some random italian dude shows up to fight you. Like, you don't even know this guy! And he's totally high on mushrooms!
And he is growing a lot!
And turns out, he's got a fuckin' metal hat that makes him invincible to all of your attacks!

If you're using odyssey as a base, might as well use odyssey mario for modern sonic and pixel mario for classic sonic.
@@DarkLink1996. So 64 Mario gets Adventure-style stages, but smaller and more compact, and Odyssey Mario gets big stages with a scooter spawner to be much faster to avoid watching him run for 3 minutes to get to the nearest object.

You mean they're not that deep at all lol. That was very complex back in the day, it just got outdated as things got more complex over time. If they were that deep it would be harder to mod.

For what it's worth, this is more or less the entire gimmick of Super Paper Mario.
Game is certainly solid. Busted from a balance perspective (mostly in the player's favor so meh), story is honestly one of the best in the series, and it's a solid twist on the series that plays with your expectations on what a Paper Mario should be.
