    It is a no fail kit for sure, i agree, so many options there. I would prefer the taller tin, the reason being, for boiling water, alot easier with higher sides . Good kit, well done.

    Made a small Fire Kit from the large Kiwi Shoe Polish tin ! Fits a BIC lighter, 2 x 8 Waxed Tinder Sticks by Zippo and some Storm Proof Matches with the Striker ! The Tin can be opened one handed with the twisty thing on the side. One CZcams Video said you do not need the hole in the tin to make "Char Cloth" ! Thank you for the Great Video ! tjl

    Good kit. addition of a knife would be handy, but very well thought out.

      You should already have a knife in your BOB or EDC kits. There is a metal striker with the Ferro Rod included in the kit.

      +Happy GO Lucky Glad you liked the video! Kits can be purchased on our website. They may be temporarily out of stock, but keep checking back for when they are in stock again. They sell out fast!

    You might add a length of jute rope to make a birds nest out of, the kit seems to have enough room for some. Also a tube of chap stick for working into the cotton pads.

      We have added some jute burlap twine and a lib balm to the kit! New pics will be added to our website to show what is included, even though these items are not shown in the video. Thanks for the imput!

      +SchoolOf SelfReliance and a small cheap old school flint and steel set up would round this off completely.

      You should have flint in your knife sheath. There is flint on the magnesium bar. Believe it or not, but this can comes stuffed to the brim which makes it impossible to add anything else to the kit. :)

    Your website link is broken for mobile. It keeps auto directing back to your CZcams.

      Thanks for letting us know, we will look into it right away! (sometimes we don't know if the site is having problems with mobile viewing devices or not, so thanks for the heads up!) Make sure you are scrolling all the way down on the page, sometimes it takes a bit to load.

    Hello Sir... what is the name of your website???

    Using your scenario of falling into freezing water and losing dexterity in your hands and trying to start a fire. From my prospective, trying to fumble around with tape, with numb, non dexterous, shivering fingers, will lead to your freezing to death with your fire kit in your hands. I think a better solution would be a container with an o ring to keep it water tight. Just my .02

    • @SchoolOfSelfReliance
      @SchoolOfSelfReliance  Před 8 lety +1

      +Buldgr You can easily warm your fingers up under your armpits or between your thighs to gain enough dexterity to remove the tape and use the fire kit. Also, we haven't found any tins that have O-rings that are affordable and not crap. So the tin we use is shown in the video. If you've found an affordable and durable tin that has a large O-ring, then good for you. But the tape method has been used for many years by Special Forces units and passed all the tests. Practice chilling your fingers and then warming them up. And practice using the kit.

      +SchoolOf SelfReliance I couldn't agree more, you definitely need to practice with all of your kit! I'm not now, nor have I ever been in the special forces, and don't pretend to possess even a fraction of their skill. I guess that's why I prefer an O ring container. I don't know of an affordable tin with an O ring, but there are several small tackle boxes that are water proof and affordable. That being said, it wouldn't function as your tin does. I really enjoy your channel, keep up the good work.
