Hollies gotta be one of the most underrated groups in music history.
Totally!
badfinger too
I went to their concert a couple of years ago
They have more #1 then any other band
@@pepper13111 The hollies only had one song at number one in the UK 🇬🇧
Watching in December of 2022 and crying my eyes out. These days are all gone and music like this is all gone. All we have now are the memories. Peace and love to everyone. Hope we make the most of the last days here.
I spent the 90’s living out my obsession with the 1960’s. I was 16 in 1990. From 1990 until 1999 i grew my hair , walked about a town in Scotland called livingston wearing mostly vintage clothing, paisley shirts , beads cords , flared jeans of different colours and velvet trousers, beatle boots, suede jackets , velvet jackets … the list goes on . Lots of denim shirts from the early 70’s. My basic look was based on 1967 . I still love all this music deeply age 50 in 2024. I was still rocking the fashions in the early 2000’s polka dot shirts ect . Now i’m just short haired boring and sometimes i miss those dazes. But i’ve got the music. Straight to heaven in 67’
Man, Nash gave them that extra vocal dimension. A gifted voice as we would find out with CSN&Y.
CSN wouldn't have been successful without Nash, both Crosby and Stills realized this right from the start when Cass Elliot introduced Nash to the others. They were having difficulty with a certain song, and Nash jumped in with the harmonies and that solved everything. Still, The Hollies did quite well for themselves when Terry Sylvester came in to replace Nash.
It is sad but true, Graham Nash had gone as far as he was going to go with The Hollies, so he joined Crosby, Stills, Nash with or without Neil Young.
Their harmonies were totally unique & groundbreaking. This is one my faves.
f^%&ck yeah THe hollies are gold
The Hollies had it all.. Great singer in Allan Clarke, great drummer in Bobby Elliot, and awesome guitarist in Tony Hicks
And a useful friend in Graham Gouldman.
Best band of the 60's for me and I wasn't even born 😎
That Graham Nash guy. He's going places.
Только музыку писали слабенькую, по сравнению с Beatles, Stones, Kinks и т.д...

AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY I STILL LISTEN TO THIS KIND OF MUSIC FOR OVER 50 YEARS
I don't, I still have all of my old vinyl.
Count me in! Still listening to my generation's music! I'm a young 72!
My little grand nieces knew some old songs while driving with my nephew. He told me "I realized they had been staying with Uncle Bob!"
I’m 70, so this was my era, but I like all kinds of music, and still go to a lot of concerts. I will admit every once in a while I pour a bourbon, light a cigar and listen to these oldies but goodies. Keeps me a teenager for a night
Mad Men brought me here.
Bobby Elliott's timing is impeccable. His fills are always spot on and effortless.
The part at the end isolating the vocal harmonies of Graham, Allan and Tony is beautiful
Wow. This was candy for my ears and therapy for my soul.
This tune always makes the sun shine a lot brighter. We can certainly use that in 2021. Great memories with this one.
I keep coming back to this video. Just how much talent was in that group is often underrated. Bobby Elliott, up there with the best drummers of all time and Tony Hicks who could play anything with strings. I also think that Bernie Calvert doesn't get enough recognition. A piano player who switched to playing bass.
Absolutely. Such talent on display from all members of the band. Breathtaking. Mr Nash has the voice of an Angel though.
No auto-tune here folks - just brilliance!
More like a lot of practice and work...
talent...that's all..real musicianship
Criminally underrated band. These guys were the complete package. Excellent singing songwriting musicianship and God those harmonies. And to think this was 57 years ago. What a great band and fabulous memories of great times gone by. Doubtful any of these autotune click track bands of today could do anything that would come remotely close to this. Musical Excellence!
LOVE the Hollies!! Graham Nash has an FANTASTIC Singing Voice !!
What a great drummer. Great musician's, in pretty much in same league as the Beatles , can I say that ? And the voices, wow !!!!.!!!!!
yes i agree, excellent drummer, with a great band
I am going to controversial and say that as much as I appreciate the beatles and have enjoyed their music all my life, I would have to say the Hollies are the better singers and musicians and two of their songs in particular, he aint heavy and dont let me down, surpass Lennon McCartney. My opinion.
@@thepub245 Neil u are perfectly right, too many folks like to believe Beatles were gods, they did very well, but there was other great , great groups at that time, i feel.
@@lucguenette7534 100% Luc, thanks for taking the time to reply.
I'm gobsmacked at how clean this footage is for its age. Looks like it was recorded yesterday, incredible!
indeed !
George Martin did everything at top quality! (He filmed this!)
To some of us, 1967 seems like yesterday.
Stationary Wilburys Didn't know the 5th Beatle helped with this! What a great guy haha
Bob Scott
It was yesterday almost. I was 11 then and just turned 18. I don't know what happened to everyone though. seems they got old. too bad.
Genuinely one of the best vocal groups to come out of the 60's
Lewis Routledge Chris Farlowe Chris Farlowe
Them and The Beach Boys.
And good musicians. Tony Hicks was a wonderful lead guitarist.
If not THE best!
Who?

Lost count how many times I have watched this. Got into the Hollies as a small child. My grandmother would take care of me and my brother would let me listen to his transistor radio. Back around 1970.
Loved the bass line on this track, many of us I'm sure just didn't know just what we had back then. Thankyou.
Tony Hicks is one of the most underrated guitarists ever.
Underrated musically means not famous low standing. Tony's place as one of 60's brit lead guitarists is solid gold.
Tony Hicks is ace and a nice guy
?
he has a great touch
You got that right, friend.
Not many bands have these brill vocals now
Real voices, real instruments, so gratifying, so real. Talent.
Very distinct vocal blend... An amazing brew...
Awesome vocals! Graham Nash is badass on those high notes.
The Hollies had great voices and great harmonies.
Holy Mother of God the vocals on this are incredible.
One of my absolute favorite songs and bass lines from the 60's
Man, they were fabulous...The Hollies!!!
For some people that don't have a clue, this is harmony!
The way they hold that last note is amazing
Wow what a great band they were. Their vocals were second to none …just incredible 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Brings me back too my youth born 1963
This is definitely my favorite Hollies song. This song always reminds me of Spring. Putting on a windbreaker and go to Kiddie Land with my parents on the weekend. God, what fun. Fun fact: The Hollies, at one time, had a fanzine called "The Carousel". Perhaps that's why you can hear Allan, Graham and Tony sing "On a carousel" and "on the carousel" during the chorus. Love Bobby's drums on this track as well.
The quality of this footage is insane. ageless
That video quality is amazing. I think if I could live in the 60s I'd want to be around these guys.
This is one of my favorite sixties songs .
My 20 y/o college daughter and her friends LOVE all this "old" music! I'm sending these Hollies videos to her.
one of the best vocal British Invasion bands ever!
My mom used to play a "The Hollies Greatest Hits" CD in the car for my little sister and I on our way to preschool every morning, so glad she did!
Ahh!
And 40+ years later I still rarely hear great harmonies like this on the radio. Great band.
Agreed, Alan, Graham and Tony absolutely brilliant. The Hollies deserve better recognition
I totally get (and agree!) with your point about this being unbelievably great. Just a small quibble..."rarely hear"...name one song since the early seventies that even comes close (or even far away) from this song? Oh, I mean except for Justin Bieber...man, how the hell did we go from this to Justin in fifty short years!
I think Tony Hicks is their best addition to the band what a talented man
Very underated group from the 60s...Each member was very talented..😊
One of my favorite Hollies' songs! I love the acapella singing at the end. Excellent harmonies! They inspired a lot of musicians who came after them. Still listening in 2024.
Wow! 💯
Heard this every morning on the radio while getting ready for school. 14 yrs old
Make me nostalgic...long time gone!!!
I was born in 74. I grew up hearing this thanks to my parents awesome record collection and big cabinet stereo.
Thank you for uploading this song. I love the song and it's really interesting to watch how they did this in a studio. PC. 10. 04. 2023. PS. In 1967 I was just 15 year's of age.
Whe music was simple but so effective! No glitter. Just pure music
Every time i heard The Hollies I always wonder why they didn't get much more popular......
Cody Wigginton They were greatly popular, but much more so in the UK. From '63 to'70 the group consistently charted in the top five, top ten, or top 20 with everything they released over there. By the way, are you British?
This looks as though it could’ve been filmed in the 90s, it’s that slick. Amazing to watch these boys at work.
Some of the best harmony I've ever heard. I love this band.
I’m currently in a hospital bed feeling miserable and this song makes me feel so much better.
Just a wonderful piece of pop music
What a group they became. One of the greatest!
Thats what real genuine talent looks and sounds like.
Always loved The Hollies
Hicks is such a great guitarist. He makes it sound almost like a sitar in this.
I can't stop watching this! I've always liked The Hollies, but during this lockdown while watching videos of 60's and 70's band, realised I've never looked up anything of them on video, and despite knowing alot of their songs, wouldn't recognise any of the members if they walked up to me in the street. My surprise to there being a lot of vids of them, and coming across this and the Hollies remember vids..holy cow, was no happenstance, they really were so good! I just can't stop stop stop...I can't let go!
Great sound, wonderful harmonies. Very beatles but a bit different. Love it. 💘
Awesome group! Love the intro! True talents, legends!
Masterpiece!! Very few acts today could do this. ENOUGH SAID!!
So beautiful of a song!
Good video the music 🎶 so crisp and sweet
Love everything about this 😃👍♥️♥️
I literally forgot how great this band was, glad I searched 'em up! 😃
Happy 80th birthday to Graham Nash one of the great voices of music and songwriter.
Those harmonies are breath-taking. Like Tony watching Graham to see when to come in :D
So Wonderful!
Happy times remembered! A great group and even better with age and just so simply musical. Love it.
Growing up in the 60s there was so much excellent and talented groups around that I never appreciated individual artists until now watching these documentaries. I cant help but keep repeat watching this video for the mind blowing vocals.
Thank you guys for such great harmonies and sentiment. 💯🎈
Just getting into The Hollies, but such an incredible sound they have,
The harmonies are out of this world.
And at times better than
The Beatles.
😊😎😎😎🎤🎤🎤🎤
Much as I like The Beatles (out of the musical top sellers the only act that's among my favorites). This is a nicer harmony, Graham's voice is gifted.
you had me uptill 'better than the beatles'!
Go back & read what I said? Better is subjective.@@geoffevans8165
Bobby Elliot, good crisp, clean drummer with flair, like watching and hearing him, beat like a human metronome
This was the first pop music song I absolutely loved as a child:)
I love them sooo much!!
Fantastic take.
Bobby Elliott was great on the sticks like always. Bernie Calvert on bass. Good stuff!!!
Graham Nash and Tony Hicks on guitar a world class band 💯♦️♦️♦️♦️♦️👌🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I concur, 💯%!! They're Brilliant!
They were always a favorite of mine.
Such a good song. Thanks. 👏🏻👏🏻
Hicks. exceptional guitarist.
That riff KILLS.
Plays a mean banjo on Stop Stop
One of the best ever.
Plus that boy is pioneering the quintessential BRITPOP look ages before BRITPOP exists
This is exactly why they're in the
R & R HOF, boys and girls!
very cool..when real music was played and sung by people with real talent!
The sound they make at the very very end of this video is breathtaking
Brings back so many memories... Love this band👍🏾
I took my grandson to the zoo today. We went for a ride on the carousel. This song popped into my head and now I've got the most delightful ear worm.
RIP Sir George Martin who brought this little precious gem to us Hollies' fans all over the world you will be missed
Ron Richards was the producer.
They did a
Right
@tom kent yes but George Martin was in the crew filming this mini- documental, guess for what? Maybe Lennon (insert McCartney or another Beatle here) while on acid, dropped him out studio at one of the "Pepper" cuts xddd
A masterpiece
I remember when I first heard his song I was in the Army and stationed in Germany. It was 1967. This song brings back some great memories.
I live here and still listen the great song in 2021 !
What else more can I say about "The Hollies" but superb and one of the greatest groups of the 60s and all times. Great songs and harmonies !!!!!!!!!!!!1
Love these guys. Bobby Elliot is a joy to listen to as well.
Still listening to the mighty Hollie's 2021 🏴🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧🏴
Tony Hicks one of the most underrated guitars plays ever./
Same goes for Bobby Elliot on drums.
Love this song
So nice. Incredible song. Many thanks to "Reelin'...."
What a fantastic video so clear its hard to imagine its from the 60s
Bloody brilliant thank you so much - they were so damned good - 50 years where did that time all go and the great music.
Wow Tony Hick's what a phenomenal guitarist 🎸🎸 love listening to the mighty Hollie's BOOM FAB FAB MUSIC 🎼🎹🎼🎹🎶🪕🎸🎸
Man I was 10 and remember it as if yesterday and this footage yeah so clear lol
I as well loved this song - must have been in 8th grade! 'Right about the time of The Beatles Sgt. Pepper. If you listen at the end, the harmonies are spot on! Nash's notes through the song are amazing - and this is all before unlimited tracking and takes of today. They are on 1/4 inch tape of 2 or 4 tracks - you had to get it right! Wow, wow and wow!! This brought back great memories! Thank you for posting!
During 1967, Abbey Road Studios was transitioning to 8 track (1 inch tape) from 4 track. You are correct, though. Studio time was in short supply in 1967 and you had to get it right in just a few takes. (Sgt. Pepper was done on 4 track multi-track). Studio engineers could do so much with so little back then.
@@scottcarlson6246 67 was still 4 track at EMI..not Abbey Road Studios for a few years. 8 track came in 68.
My Mom listens to this born and raised thanks mom love you
