  • On November 1, 2020, Diego Estan reviewed a pair of GoldenEar Technology Bookshelf Reference X (BRX) loudspeakers for SoundStage! Access and wrote: These little workhorses provided precise aural images on large soundstages that belied their modest size. The bass was quick and taut, the midrange and top end neutral and revealing, always with enough vocal presence to keep me engaged. . . . If you’re looking for a pair of small stand-mounted speakers for $1500/pair or even up to $3000/pair, and you covet speed, neutrality, and transparency, give GoldenEar Technology’s Bookshelf Reference X a listen.”
    Read the full review here: www.soundstage...
    In this newest Take 2 episode, Jay Lee examines the GoldenEar Technology BRX and gives you his perspective. Watch it to see where Jay agrees and disagrees with Diego’s assessment.

      It got rather brittle his voice that is as he continues to use rather silly descriptive words /phrases .

    You think they lack Bass? you must be smoking crack. More likely, you didn't break them in. It took 2 months, or about 200 hours to get fully broken in. After fully broken in they have sub Bass that is simply amazing for a bookshelf speaker. You still need a subwoofer or 2 to get down low, but they do pretty damn good. They sound amazing out-of-the-box. But they are light on bass in the beginning. And also you should Place them close to the front wall for best bass response in my opinion. that works best for my space.

    I really like AMT tweeters. But, I've learned that they can all have very different sound signatures. I'd like to hear the Wharfedale Evo series, but unfortunately there are no dealers in my area. They seem to be very smooth and warm sounding according to reviews.

    The brightness of any speaker will be tempered by the associated gear. BRX I not a harsh speaker at the high frequencies, but it can be when matched with some amps and preamps.

    What the heck is "tilt"? Once you've selected a certain height of stand, are you tipping up the front end of the stands to tilt them up? Or are you trying to say " toe in "? Otherwise I don't know what tilt means.

    Just wondering if you've listened to the Audiovector qr1's? I listened to them recently and I was surprised at the quality for the price. Apparently they are hand made in Denmark and use good componentry. No one seems to have them on their radar. I would love to hear your thoughts.

    Damn.. now I'm second guessing these. Have these on my wishlist. Steve Gutenberg gave them a nice review as well as a couple other reviewers. However it is nice to hear a contrasting view.

      Steve Guttenberg .... everything he reviews he says sounds great. Got to search out other reviewers to find out the true story.

    • @RasheedKhan-he6xx
      @RasheedKhan-he6xx Před 3 lety +2

      @@milesdufourny4813 Its a little more nuanced than that. Guttenberg gets sent an unbelievable amount of gear. He almost only bothers to publish a review if he likes it and decides to share it with his followers. Remember he invests weeks of listening for every review. It's a bit much to ask him to grit his teeth and suffer through that just for a negative opinion!

    • @RasheedKhan-he6xx
      @RasheedKhan-he6xx Před 3 lety

      I'm interested in them too. Reviews have actually been quite consistent, Guttenberg, Darko and even Jay here. The review here doesn't actually differ much from those, all Jay is saying is it's not really to his taste.

      @milesdufourny4813 Před 3 lety +1

      @@RasheedKhan-he6xx But he never compares the sound to other well known pieces of equipment unlike Jay(soulsik) or Thomas and Stereo. All he ever says is; "This sounds great!"

    "... But the KEF LS50 has a more bigger sound - more bass, more kinda warmer characteristic to it." So, the KEF's 5 1/4" driver puts out "more bass" from a smaller enclosure than the Goldenear's 6" driver plus its two 6.5" bass radiators, in a bigger enclosure. Think you got it backward.

      I have the GE Triton Sevens. Great sound! I listened to the BRX in a professionally treated room, proper stands, etc. I was not impressed. They definitely needed something. There was little bass to compliment/offset the tweeter. I don't know where the bass raves come from in media reviews. On the other hand, they were driven by the NAD M10 digital amp. I would not use digital with these. Maybe a Rega Brio or even the startling Rega io in a smaller room. The io is a 30 watt anomaly.

      The laws of physics does not allow a 6 inch bass/midrange driver (it's not even a 6 inch dedicated woofer) to deliver loads of deep bass .Any one acquiring these speakers should expect to pair them with at least an enthusiastic low reaching 10 inch sub.You can't buy a little pickup truck and expect it to transport 10 ton boulders.

      Than the. The comment on north south pole irrelevant and unrelated to subject matter. Never heard the word brittle used to describe a speaker's sound characteristic. There are plenty of adjectives already in use that are employed to describe a speaker's sound profile, how about using understandable descriptions?
