2002 NBA Finals Game 1, June 5, 2002 | Great performance by Shaq to open up the 2002 finals with 36 points, 16 boards & 4 blocks. Kobe had a few sick highlights in this game too, including his ridiculous dunk over Todd MacCulloch. The Lakers won 99-94.

Who in their right mind thought the Nets had ANY chance in these Finals? NBC tried to hype it up, but the real Finals that year was Kings-Lakers.

Same conference, they can’t face each other in the finals, if you meant Kings vs Nets that would’ve made sense

@@demetriousstephens1998 Should have been Kings vs. Nets. But David Stern was never going to allow that.

The size differential, the weight difference. Man Nets center can't guard Shaq. It's a Shaq attack all series

Shaq dominates ANOTHER finals for all 3 finals MVPs during the 3-peat.

It wasn't hard dominating those teams tho

@@rodbold7674 That’s a misconception Pacers were the better team Kobe was absolutely atrocious in those finals Smits and Dale Davis, who both were legit players doubled/tripled/quadrupled Shaq all series long. Shaq single handily beat the Pacers in the greatest finals performance of my lifetime. Reggie Mille, Jalen Rose dropping 20+ a game you had Mark Jackson running point with one of the best 6th man in the league Austin Crosher. The Sixers had the defensive player of the year in Mutumbo who was still a monster defender with Tyrone Hill at PF plus they used two other 7fters in Geiger and Todd to triple team Shaq.
The Sixers were the best defensive team that season plus they had the MVP Iverson (Shaq was the real MVP) 6th man of the league Aaron McKie, defensive player of the year Mutumbo and coach of the year Larry Brown. Sixers weren’t a good offensive team outside of Iverson, but played great defensive. This was the only finals against the Nets you could make the case, but Shaq was still doubled/tripled team most of the time so it don’t matter. Remember Shaq averaged 28/12/3 against two first ballot HOFamers at the same time in Robinson/ Duncan he averaged that same amount against Rodman/Robinson. Shaq would drop 35 a night on Divac/Webber, Sabonis/Wallace so it didn’t matter whose name was on the back of the jerseys Shaq destroyed them.

The East was weak in the early 2000's! The 76ers and or the Nets would of struggled just to get in the Western playoffs!

Hanggang ngayon sa mga center Wala paring makagaya sa pagiging dominant player ni Shaquille O'Neal. pagdating sa laro.

This was a solid team, he just ran into the Lakers and Spurs at the wrong time. Maybe if Vince Carter was apart of those two Nets teams they might’ve had a better chance to beat the Spurs of course. They were never gonna beat the Lakers.
