I totally agree about the gourmand feel to Carlisle, but I have to say, from a personal perspective, to also get a distinct barbershop-y fougère at certain points in the drydown.
Carlisle is such a great perfume for men! One of my favourite cologne 😍
It's truly a classy and elegant perfume for guys. LOVE IT!

@@awolf913 Hi! No I personally prefer Layton. Layton is more fun, playful and versatile than Carlisle. And definitely sexier 😊
@@awolf913 Carlisle is an 11/10 masterpiece mate. Absolute signature worthy scent, Layton is good as well but gets boring after a while. The deep drydown of Carlisle is divine and you'll never get tired of it. Carlisle is timeless and anyone from a 20 year old to a 70 year old can wear it.
Agree! I think Layton is solid but for me there's not much to the dry down on my skin. Carlisle starts off a bit harsh as he mentioned but within a few minutes it settles in and smells amazing. And it only gets better as it develops. My favorite PDM is still Herod but Carlisle is a close second. @@marcelo1458

I rank a few other PDM fragrances higher than Carlisle. :) But TOTALLY agree on Layton! An insanely good fragrance that I LOVE using!

@@awolf913 Carlisle is a really well-made perfume from PDM, but I reach for a lot of other PDM fragrances more often. Layton, Godolphin, Pegasus and Herod are some PDM perfumes that I use more often than Carlisle. 😊

@@rottenrebels I tried your suggestion to user ir as layered... oh my. Tried with Dior Homme and Fahrenheit... meh not impressed. But what really blew my away was apply on top of CDNIM Parfum (Limited Ed) OR apply on top of the wood smells of Tommy Hilfiger Impact Intense EDP.... The two duo combos after an hour or two are truly insane. One make Carlisle become a sophisticated summer fragrance and the other add spicy Wood accords that to some degree give HEROD vibes in the drydown. Actually TH Impact Intense is seriously underrated for a designer... it really smells like niche.

Good review.. I own Carlisle and really enjoy it, but haven't tried layering it yet. Do you have any recommendations that it layers well with?
Have you smelled Layton and do you like Carlisle more than Layton?
I bought a 5ml sampler a few weeks ago, but wasn't impressed by the first impression. It really took me by surprise, the wrong way. However, within half an hour or so, it had me bewitched. I can't stop using it now. The sample has about 3mm left in the bottom of the vial. :) One full bottle inevitably incoming.
Hi! I actually had sort of the same experience.. It did not blow me away from the start, but after a few proper wears I ended up enjoy it! And it's a scent that A LOT of people really enjoy. Received a ton of compliments while having it on 😊

Thanks for the review! Just got my bottle today and it smells less sweet than the decant I tested. Just curious does your bottle become sweeter and less harsh as it sits over time?
Hi! Yes, it's a bit sweeter and way less sort of "sharp" now than when I first opened up the bottle. Feels more round and complete I would say. Not much sweeter though, just a bit. 😊

In that layering combination I wanted to make it deeper, sexier and dirtier.
My favourite kinds of perfume that I love layering with Carlisle are woody perfumes and sweet perfumes. Woody perfumes to complement Carlisle´s woody side, and sweet perfumes to give it some added sweetness in order to make it more soft and even more mass appealing.
So I sort of try and ADD to the woody side of Carlisle, or to balance up that deep side of carlisle with something sweet :)
Hello, I know your comment is old, but I was wondering if your bottle of Carlisle macerated after some time had passed and is now just as good as the decant you tried? I bought Percival and instantly returned it because it was nowhere near the sample I had and I didn't want to wait 2 months to see if the fragrance would open up and become the great fragrance I always loved.
*So I'm going to purchase Borouj Perlador because everyone is saying it's so close to Carlisle.*
Hi there! I have not tried that one. But in my own experience very few "clones" are actually VERY close to the originals. With the exception of some of Armafs Creed Clones..
Please do share how close you feel that one is to Carlisle when you get it. Will be interesting to see if it's a good one! 😊

@@rottenrebels *Bro, they sent me the Borouj Perlador fragrance with a sample of Carlisle for free and I tell you no lie, to my nose, there is almost no difference. In the air, it's indistinguishable.*

Also curious about what @rottenrebels has layered with Carlisle. I thought a somewhat neutral fresh scent would work well so I tried Versace Pour Homme with it today and it was a nice result. Might also be worth trying another fruity woody scent with it like Hacivat. I hesitate to try another dense sweet scent though.
The music in the background is annoying
I got a bad batch at full price today. From 2021. Performance is absolute trash. Smells almost nothing like what I smelled a Nordstrom's. No top notes. Faint apple and tobacco-like smell for a while and then maybe a hint of rose for a very brief moment later and it's gone. Maybe it was stored poorly, IDK. Super disheartening though. 😞

Parfums de Marly has REFORMULATED Carlisle. I own an older formulation which has an alcohol concentration of 77%. The new formulation I see in stores has 81% alcohol. My formulation is a dark ORANGE / AMBER color. The new formulation is a very light, faint copper color. The new formulation does not last as long and it smells different. Parfums de Marly fragrances are ALWAYS much weaker than their ORIGINAL releases. Parfums de Marly HAS NOT been transparent when it comes to the reformulation of their fragrances. Herod, Layton & Oajan have also been reformulated and have 3%-4% more alcohol in newer batches.

@@rottenrebels Some stores have both the 2015 old formulation 77% alcohol & the new 2021 formulation 81% alcohol of Carlisle and the new & older formulations of Oajan, Herod & Layton. The Parfums de Marly reps in the stores do not even know about the reformulation but they have inventory with both formulations. I have been to 7 stores this week that carry Parfums de Marly

Honestly I have a 80% Carlise and it projects and last a long time. I’ve smelled it on my skin the next day. I can’t fully agree with this comment.
4% more alcohol 😂. Calm down it still lasts 12 hrs for me.
