For years, Batman and Catwoman have had a very non-conventional, love/hate relationship. Neither willing to completely submit to the other's ways. What was once an endless fight, has now become a sensually painful dance of seduction and courtship. It is their unending struggle. It is their Knight Waltz.
A WORD FROM CHRIS
Knight Waltz was a film I have wanted to make since 2006. But due to complications with casting, costumes and schedules, I had to put the film on the back burner. But I think it was a good thing that I did. The story had time to marinate and ultimately evolved. The script, though still simple, is much more complex and insinuating than it previously was. And of course, the fight choreography by Emmanuel Brown and chemistry between both Mandy Evans and Matthew Jenkins clearly lends itself.
Shooting Knight Waltz was a virtual nightmare for any filmmaker. What should have been a walk in the park was just one compounding situation after another. Originally the film was going to be set in a luxury parking garage with all natural florescent lighting. Kim Santiago and I had scouted the location weeks in advance and I was particularly excited because not only was this garage the perfect place to shoot, but it was also extremely well lit. Unfortunately, the person who was going to give us access to this location vanished and we were completely incapable of reaching him. That being said, the perfect location was officially lost.
As the clock ticked closer towards the shoot date which in no way could be pushed back any further due to potential scheduling conflicts with all involved, Kim and I were forced to find another place. Thankfully, we did. A rooftop in the heart of Chinatown, which could easily double as the Narrows of Gotham City. But this second awesome location came with a few strings attached. I did not have an unlimited time to film. In fact, I was forced to condense my entire shoot into a three hour venture. Now this normally wouldn't bother me as much as it did. I've worked on condensed shoots before, but when you're shooting dialog AND a fight sequence, you need ample time to shoot both. Rushing your fights, cheapens their awesomeness and rushing the dialog scenes forces performances. Now tack on every fathomable outside element, apart from raining and you have yourself a hell set. The winds were gusting and killing my audio, not to mention we had constant planes flying overhead, dump trucks making rounds and some dude revving his scooter. A SCOOTER! Who revs a scooter at 10pm in Chinatown? That's not gangsta!
The audio was so poor in fact, I ultimately ended up re-dubbing the entire film from start to finish. Every single sound you hear was added in post production. I even went as far as to cast a separate voice actor for the role of Batman: one Hector De La Rosa. You may remember him as Snake Plissken from my previous webseries, "Escape From New Jersey".
And I gotta say, the dubbing sessions for this were hysterical. Imagine two fully grown adults making these sensual and abrasive sound effects through pantomime. It was a literal laugh out loud moment.
But all that crap aside, the shoot was still a success in my opinion. It was colorfully lit, the fight was sexy as hell and at the end of the day, I still managed to pull off what I set out to do; which was showcase Batman and Catwoman in a more sensual pain for pleasure kind of way. - Zábava

Everything is purrfect. The location, the writing, the fight sequences, the costumes and the ending. Just like a batman film and a great short film.
The costumes are fantastic. That is the best Catwoman costume I ever saw, and it is apparently as durable as Selina's costume is in the comics.

I really like the video. You captured their relationship perfectly. I imagine Catwoman showing frustration when she gets to her apartment because she really is in love with Batman.

Foreplay indicates both parties are enjoying this: favorite line. I love it when the director knows exactly what his characters' real motives are. I miss the Balent purple suit, but it's nice to see the current cat-look as well. Also, this Batman was really good. (The voice, I'm sure has been commented on, is much better than Bale's) Great job, and hope to see more.
The rough cut was great, but the final cut is so much better! The voices sound cleaner. This is such an amazing piece Chris. Everyone did a wonderful job.
The way she speaks makes me think of how actresses and actors spoke English in the 1950s. I love that. Was it deliberate? It is genius! It fits the cat ;)

The re-done audio was crisp and clean, and totally blew me away. Casting a difference voice actor definitely made a big difference on Batman. I love it!
I give a lot of fan films hell, but you my friends are like a sigh of relief after scene horrible productions and portrayals of these characters. The angles were great, script was perfect, chemistry felt real, and the overall story was spot on. The depictions of batman and catwoman's relationship was flawless. and I don't know if this was on purpose or not, but the way catwoman has an enticing, yet eerie and unnatural grace was done so well. Only bad thing about it, is that there's no more :)
Overall good script, actors, camera, lighting and editing. Love the voices, especially catwoman. Thanks a lot and keep up this exceptional quality. Great job.

Nicely done! A little on the nose with some of the dialogue, perhaps, but the relationship between the two was captured very well. Also, the costumes, etc., were very well done - it really felt like the comic. Good job.

Crazy how this film was made a long time ago. 6 years later, the music is used in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Coincidence??

i just rewatched this and i honestly must say that i like it better this time than before.
It's pretty damn good. I like how Catwoman is so seductive yet playful, and how their fighting is like a seductive sexual waltz. I even love how the lines are sometimes a little corny, but it fits so well that it's so damn good.
My only problem is the acting at times.
This was actually alot of fun! It was like watching a cartoon!
Loved how professional this looked, and I got a real kick out of the dialog - it was very much in character. Always loved this two, both seperately and as a couple - and, feel they've been doing the "same dance" for a little too damn long. Throughout the whole fight scene, my thoughts were a constant monotone of "kiss her. kiss her." :) Anyway, I can't really express how much I enjoyed watching, and am overjoyed to know that your skills as a film-maker will only improve ... that is, if they can.

i love the exploration of the Catwoman/Batman relationship. It is amazing how he takes all this abuse, but he doesnt try to strike or block because he loves her (though she won't admit it)
im just not sold on the actor playing the Batman yet. Maybe after a few more videos with him, but for now I'm not sold on him

I know I'm biased to The Dark Knight and his rogue gallery, but this was damn good. Well written... I love Catwoman's outfit. Practical boots for fighting in but still with the right dash of comic book impracticality...
There's a good reason for it, though. Martial artists do it because A.) it focuses our energy and helps us put more power into our movements, and B.) it forces us to breathe more, thus oxygenating our muscles and increasing our endurance.

I was wondered what the differences between the cuts were going to be, but I see and hear them very well. The only problem I have is that there's barely any city background noise. Even in the middle of the night, there's always some sort of noise going on in the city (I'm judging this from my experiences in living in two mid-size cities). Just my opinion. Great short either way. :D
