- In this video, we will cover everything to know about the helicopters, Including Acquisition, controls, Fuel consumption, durability, usability, Sam turrets, and storage. The helicopters can serve many uses but primarily give you the freedom to go and loot what you please, without the risk of roaming the roads or dealing with AI. Make sure to keep your helicopters stored away behind a compound or within a base, otherwise it's almost guaranteed to be stolen.

One tip I'd add that I learned the hard way is if the mini is parked on sloped terrain when you take off, it seems to always veer towards the upward slope the moment it gains enough power to lift off. This could easily smash you into the side of a hill or mountain if you aren't prepared to adjust. I always take note of the slope of the terrain I'm on and mentally prepare to move my mouse in the opposite direction to counteract that sudden veer. Of course you could just drive it to more level terrain, but if you're in a hurry to take off fast that may not be an option.
pro tip, if you play a lot of other flying games go into controls and turn on "invert y axis in vehicle" this will make the mouse moving up or down do what it does in every other game with a helicopter or even planes for that matter

Thanks for the guide! Every time I've gotten a mini on a real server (either purchased or stolen) I'd crash it within seconds. I'd always go into some kind of nosedive as soon as I tried to go forward, then spiral out of control trying to overcorrect.
Starting without the mouse movements and only moving the mouse a little bit at a time is making things so much easier .Now I'm able to go across the map and land on monuments with only the occasional hiccup.
Im glad i decided to look up a tutorial before heading to buy my first mini. Knowing that you fly using the mouse as well and the servers to practice on are gonna save me a few thousand scrap

I can fly the Huey in Digital Combat Simulator which real life Huey pilots have said it's almost exactly like the real thing.
Flying the rust heli is so awkward. Using the mouse to control cyclic with no reference to position of the stick or even how much input you're giving is kinda difficult for a beginner. Almost makes me want to connect my hotas just to fly in Rust if that's even possible 😆
Haha, yeah in can be awkard at the start flying in rust. Would love to see more visual indication of the stick for reference which I think would help a lot of players starting out.
Coming from 25 years of flight simulators, learning to fly in Rust was beyond frustrating. As you mentioned the controls are counterintuitive to real life. After destroying a few dozen minis, I’ve gotten pretty good, pulling stunts and all so there is hope.

So why do they seem to randomly just blow up in mid-air on occasion? I’ve been riding along once or twice when they seem to simply go boom on their own.
im absolutely unable to control my flight. i tried lowering the sensitivity and i tried flipping the axis.. nothing helps. i just always start tilting to the side and the more i try to correct, the worse it gets. And for some reason i never seem to fly forward. No matter if i move my mouse up or down, i still end up moving backwards. And every time i try to move mouse up or down it still starts to tilt me on either side. It is just too sensitive on horizontal axis
when i press ctrl and w to move on the ground the mini doesnt move help?
Make sure you are fully on the ground and holding down ctrl while pressing W.

What does the crouch button do? I have a crouch toggle button and when I hit it by accident I usually crash but I don't know what it's actually doing. Is there a time and place you might want to use it??
At 1:20 I talk about this but essentially it causes the heli to enter drive mode. When held down you can drive the heli around on the ground like a car with WASD.
@@JfarrYT but you are able to press crouch while flying and it will still fly, seems like it changes the tilt or something. Guess I can go to one of the fly servers and test it myself

Even when im not touching my mouse, or the s key, my mini just rockets backwards into the ground or yk...anything nearby.

@1:32 you dont say what command picks the Heli up, prior to that you said fly the copter around on the ground by "Holding Ctrl" and it looked like you were driving on the ground like a car, but then jumped straight to going up in the next clip and not saying how 🤷🏽♂🤷🏽♂

Great content Jfarr, thanks for the lesson. Do you have any tips on how to acquire large quantities of low grade fuel?
I always keep crude oil from oil barrels and throw away the low grade from it bc it's so little. Then use an oil refinery to turn it all into a ton of low grade. Can easily get over 1000 low grade within 3 or 4 good road runs each about an hour long if I get all the crude oil from barrels.
Also, if you can locate the large pump looking thing that some monuments have, it takes low grade as fuel and converts it into crude oil in a 1:1 ratio. Then use an oil refinery to turn it back into low grade, as 1 crude oil is I think 3 low grade when refined. If you repeat this process, then you can have infinite low grade if you have enough wood.
Finally, when opening military crates and elite crates you sometimes get large furnaces or oil refineries. If you already have enough for yourself, then go recycle them. Oil refinery costs 500 low grade so recycles into 250. I forgot how much the large furnace is, but it is alot. And if you raid someone's base and get TC, you can pick up the regular furnaces and recycle them for 25 low grade each, if you're desperate.

It's worth noting that heli's and (player) SAM sites are also easily destroyed by incendiary ammo

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to easily invert the controls. There might be a way to rebind your in-game y axis but you would likely have to switch back and forward every time you want to fly.
They basically feel like primitive versions of rising storm vietnam helis

I never expected a mini copter guide...also can try to do a "advence pvp guide" like alt peeking going to the f-console to make ur player jump higher....
Atually i dont even know how to kill myself using the F-console
I would like to eventually do a PVP guide and talk about the servers, tactics, console commands, etc. Also just type the word 'kill' in console or press escape and you should see a respawn or kill button.
