  • Here are the thing I hate about the classic vintage motorcycle from Honda. The CB350 Super Sport is a great bike, but it has its shortcomings.

    LOL i love a good rant. We all know that every machine we deal with has its annoyances so an occasional rant helps keep us sane when we go back to work on it.
    I just got my first vintage Honda and look forward to wrenching on it. Your rant actually gave me some heads-up on a couple things.
    Thanks for a great video

    All good points, especially the last one! Carbs suck.

    My 1973 CB350 didn't have that extra B S on the shifter. The shift lever was clamped right to the shifter shaft.

    LOL. Fooled me. I thought at the end you were going to say "But even with all that, I love em' and love to ride them! Nothing like it!"

      @@KeepOnWrenching I hate when I have a vintage bike running for months perfectly and the one of the carbs starts pissing gas. Stuck float? Clogged value spring? Etc. Ugh, screw driver tap doesn't work. Pull the carbs. Nooooooo! LOL.

    I hate the soft aluminum valve covers. I now use a pipe wrench on them and skip the 17mill nut.

    I laughed entirely too much at the frame aspect… that design makes me scratch my head…. 😂 I didn’t much care fore the rats nest of wires and connectors in the headlight bucket.
    Also, without petcocks you wouldn’t have Pet Rooster.

    I hate that Honda only but two wheels on these things. Do they realize how easy it is to fall over?! Just add two more wheels, come on

    Well, understand, these are frustrations, but it’s obvious you’ve never worked on a BMW! 😊. Once you work on one of those the stuff you mentioned is kids play

    Sounds like she ll be up for sale lol after a rant like that. All valid points though. Carbs are the bane of many riders existence. God bless EFI. That little washer in the oil slinger is an absolute pain! Great video though. Let’s see a comparison to the things you like the most

      Not a bad idea. It’d be long. The Wrenchers know I love these bikes. Otherwise I wouldn’t have a few. Lol

    Can you put the cb350 amd the cb125 next to one another. Please 🙏 it would help me decide on my choice 😅. Let me know If your serious about selling either bike

    To easily get the airbox rod done I just straddle the bike and push in with my legs, compressing the airboxes together, exposes plenty of threads.
    For the mirrors, I was tired of the breaking the handles, so I put them on their own mounts. Plenty of modern options for longer mirror stems now.
    I made a cover for the neutral switch so it doesnt collect all that oil and dirt, havent had many problems with it.
    Have you done the common-motor stator coil wire mode? It removes the marginal charging issue.
    What is the quick disconnect you are using for the fuel line?

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  Před 11 měsíci

      That can work. Gotta make sure those little inner seals aren’t holding you up to. Flashlight helps too!

    I don't own a 350 but I've helped a friend work on his. I agree with most of you your complaints. The cross over tube under the tank is such a PITA. I like to be able to take my tank off easly for maintenance. I'd just plug them up and live with the consequences. I disagree with you about the gauges. Digital gauges wouldn't look right on these old bikes.
    I gotta vent a little myself, but not about vintage bikes, about modern bikes. I mostly have vintage motorcycles in my garage but I recently got a "modern" bike. It's a 2007 Triumph Bonneville, so still 16 years old, but not vintage. I got into motorcycles about 5 years ago and I've never stripped a bolt while learning to work on them, but for some reason I've stripped the threads out of 3 bolt holes on this bike and I broke a banjo bolt that I was tightening (with a torque wrench). I actually had to buy a second more sensitive torque wrench because for this bike I need one that'll go down to 7 newton meters.

      The struggle is real. Someday, the new bikes will be old bikes. Curious to see how they hold up against the vintage bikes. Quality differences is pretty apparent. My video was meant with a hint of satire. :)

    I know a lot of what you said is tongue-in-cheek as the tech wasn't even invented yet, but yes, you did miss a big one, albeit while catching most of them: Wheel bearings. Seriously Honda, an aluminum nut into a threaded carrier with some BS notches or holes to help remove and install them? I cry BS!!!! WHY? Drop or press the bearings in and use a big circlip to keep them from popping out like Kawasaki does! These "nuts" are sometimes impossible to remove and because they are aluminum, get destroyed easily!!! Anyway, that's my biggie!

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That’s a solid addition to the list. Not everyone has a blind bearing puller! A notch at least, but a circlip, yes! Good one.

  • @agnesandtim9836

    For the cross over fuel line can anyone suggest a workable quick disconnect that closes both ends? Most the ones I find only shut one end.

    Good lord, that's a lot of complaining. I love my working on my 72 CB350 K4. It's a lot easier to get to compared to changing the air filter on my 08 Goldwing or my PC800. Honda India makes a modern version of the CB350.
