    This has all the same features as the Hubsan H501S; GPS, Follow-Me, 5.8ghz FPV, but this has brushed motors and a 720P camera. And I'm pretty sure this is the first brushed quadcopter with GPS.
    Enjoy!

      I rec'd mine last Wednesday and have been having a ball with it. It came with the sun-visor, which really helps. The 'follow-me' feature works great, as does the 'circle-me'. The video is awesome. I have other 1080p cameras and they do not give near a good and clear video. Also, I noticed the video is very fast. Excellent 'stop motion' rate. There is some 'jello' but not bad. I take to 100 meters altitude, no problem and it obviously would go much higher- but, 100 m is about as high as I can see it and am still learning to trust the electronics rather than my Mark-2 eyeballs. Flights are super easy, and stability in wind is fair- not great- If I drop altitude too fast, it starts wobbling pretty bad, but, giving a little forward control on descent, rubs that out all together. No problems so far on start-up. It does require some hand input on take-off. Hold altitude for about five seconds and from then on, altitude hold is rock solid. Control is such I can do close inspection up to five inches on roofs and walls and parking lot lighting. The focal length of the lens is pretty wide, so close work is outstanding. I would like to get a more ma battery. I doubled up on the 610 batteries (total 1.220 ma) with a 'Y' connector and taped the spare to the outer fuse and had absolutely no trouble at all lifting it, but the flight duration was extended only about 4.5 minutes. I think it would lift an 1800 ma no problem.

    I just bought one of these for 99 bucks with a tx lipo and 2 batteries after holding back for 4 years, there's only a few left and the Hubsan store has none. They appear discontinued. Hubsan, not very good at communications. I love the sound of the geared brushed motors and the resilience of the quad to teach kids with. I would not recommend messing around with Hubsan firmware at any time. Rule of thumb is. If it's not broke. Don't fix it. If you're a tinkerer. Perhaps you can recover afterward. Cheers!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  Před 6 lety

      I am not familiar with the H216A. From a quick Google search, it looks like it uses WiFi FPV, whereas the H502S is real 5.8ghz FPV. WiFi is awful for FPV... it has short range, delay, and can often interfere with the radio signal to the drone, causing loss of control and even crashes.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  Před 7 lety

      The 501S has a 1080P camera, whereas the 502S is only 720P. And the 501S has brushless motors, which are much better, more powerful, and longer lasting, than the brushed motors in the 502S. And since the brushless motors are direct-drive, whereas brushed motors are gear-driven, the brushless motors can make faster corrections, which leads to a more stable GPS hover, which gives less shaky video.

  • @krang07
    @krang07 Před 7 lety

    Very neat. I only have one complaint about the camera not having any sort of gimbal. There must be a way to have a floating camera mount for the camera. Maybe not a full on gimbal but some kind of housing that allows the camera to float around and not be fixed to the quad itself.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah, that is possible (my Sony Handycam has that, actually), but it's expensive and heavy. The easier and cheaper solution would've been electronic image stabilization. It basically zooms in on the frame, and instead of showing the entire view, it can now pan around within that frame and use software to make small adjustments in order to keep the image stable. So, you see less, but it's more stable. :)

    •  Před 7 lety +2

      Software based image stabilization is nice indeed, but processing the image add some delay in the FPV. But if it's possible to record on the quad itself, it's a pretty neat feature (even if the result will never be as good as a 3 axis gimbal) !

    • @MrTUBER408
      @MrTUBER408 Před 7 lety +1

      Electronic stabilization is OK for video capture but bad for FPV. The viewing angel is greatly reduced. You need a wide viewing angel or you will constantly be hitting things you couldn't see beyond your narrowed periphery. Crappy for flying in a wooded area! ;-)

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  Před 7 lety +1

      Don Fish Jr. True, but I don't see a model like this as actually intended for FPV flying. This is an AV platform, and the FPV is just meant as a way to line up your shot. :)

    • @MrTUBER408
      @MrTUBER408 Před 7 lety

      Point well taken. If it has a camera and a 5.8gHz video transmitter, some of us will fly FPV even if it is only around the livingroom! I didn't buy those high dollar FatShark goggles to sit and collect dust. I have a Walkira 350 PRO and a Q500+ for aerial video photography. Without a decently stable 3 access gimbal and 1080p camera you just cant capture a reasonably wide field of view video. Electronic stabilization just shrinks the FOV too much for me. The 502S would be just fine for still shots. Stills don't require stabilization. I have the H501S. Not bad FPV. 1080P camera yields acceptable flight video recording. ;-)

    • @theimacman

      FPV in a model like this is meant more for knowing what your camera is seeing, not actually flying via the FPV.

      Make sure you keep the quad very steady and in the same position as you rotate it. You're pointing the nose to the ground, right? And I believe you rotate it counter-clockwise. You can do it fairly fast, but not too fast.

    • @MrTUBER408
      @MrTUBER408 Před 7 lety

      Frankly, NO. Brushed motors with gear driven props and 720P camera. I have 2 H501S. The 1080P is noticeably sharper and better. Brushless motors are way more powerful, responsive and last way longer. No brushes to wear out or burn up if the prop hits something and suddenly stops turning with the throttle open. Spend a little more, you will be a lot happier! ;-)

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  Před 7 lety

      I agree with the others... I think it's really worth the extra money to go for the H501S. On top of what they said, the direct-drive of the brushless motors allows for quicker adjustments, so when it is in a GPS lock and filming, there is less shaking in the camera, because the quad can make small corrections faster. The gear-driven props of the H502S take longer to make corrections, and that results in a lot more shaking in the video.

      GPS helps keep the model in position without the pilot having to do anything. But, it complicates things, so I wouldn't suggest GPS models for complete beginners. It's better to start with something simple, and learn how to actually fly, and then move on to GPS models when you have your head wrapped around the basic. :)

      @theimacman  Před 6 lety

      Does your son have any experience? If not, this is not the sort of model he should start with. He should start out with something more simple and cheaper at first. He *will* be crashing a lot as he learns, so you want to get a model that can handle crashes and won't be a big loss in model if it breaks. Check out the Syma X5C or X5HC (the HC model has altitude hold, which may be easier for a beginner).

      @theimacman  Před 7 lety

      Are you talking about in the controller? I don't know why that would be... the FPV screen does take a lot of battery power, but mine certainly lasts more than 5 minutes with standard AA batteries, from like Energizer or Duracell.

      I figured you had a technical background. Back in the late seventies to middle eighties, I worked for Control Data. Hardware and software quality assurance. My testing station was at the end of a line of disk drive inspectors. I did final mechanical and electronic random sample testing. I gave final approval of or hold for entire lots before they could be shipped.

    • @RuudyL

      It has 2 speeds, Ryan is rushing his reviews lately, and when you switch off the GPS it flys quiet fast.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  Před 7 lety

      That is not necessarily correct Ruudy. And, I did talk about that during the flight... with GPS hold on, it doesn't move as fast, but that is not the same thing as having multiple rates, like most quads have. I am not rushing my reviews. Sure, I did not actually check the MicroSD card recording via the transmitter, but that is the only piece of info I got wrong, and that was just because I assumed it still worked, like in previous models. That hardly has anything to do with me "rushing".

    • @ziggyzbeak
      @ziggyzbeak Před 7 lety +1

      National Triplet Connection gps stands for"Global Positioning System".It is a satellite based navigation system developed by,and operated by the US military.I has replaced tcelestial navigationi in the military.Sadly,the Navy no longer even teaches celestial navigation.Gps is more accurate,but only works if you have power.As someone who navigated at sea with a sextant,and Sightnreduction tables,I really appreciate the convenience ofGPS
