Some skins do have effects for the character model themselves and some change the characters abilities a little such as Sculptor's statues change with her A/S tier skins, Disciple's cat changes, etc. But yeah, you are generally right.
Heyo Applause_YT820! As a Christian myself, I don't think there are any reasons why Christians shouldn't play it. The community is very accepting and although the theme of the game is horror and there are some Un-Christian themes in the game, there are so many opportunities you can/will have to talk to others about your faith. As long as you listen to God's word in your life and he guides you, then you should be fine playing this game. Through my time playing this game God has managed to do amazing things through me, multiple charity events, helping people through difficult times and giving me a platform to talk about my faith (such as right now!). Listen to God and you will know the answer. I hope that helps you.
