    You've sold me on this one! Possibly my favourite pasta is cannelloni!
    Easter seems weird because it's a conglomerate of Christianity and the holiday's Pagan origins. The Celts called it Ostara and it was a festival to celebrate the return of the green to their European homelands. Winter recedes and Spring takes over. A rebirth of the growing season as well as a time for animals to create new life. One animal most known for reproduction is the rabbit and Ostara became partly represented by the rabbit and another symbol of new life, the egg. When the Christians subjugated the Celtic people, they did so partly by replacing the Pagan celebrations with their own. They had no idea when Jesus was 'reincarnated' (they honestly don't even know for sure when he was born), but a festival of rebirth was the perfect spot. Rabbits and eggs were never removed as symbols, for some reason, which is why they still remain to this day.
    Both Christmas and Hallowe'en are also Pagan celebrations also replaced by the Christians as they, also, have many of the original rituals still remaining in them.

    • @FatherJoel
      @FatherJoel Před 2 lety +1

      It's linked first and foremost to the Jewish Passover. That the Celts had their own celebrations of new life and rebirth at the same time is a nice coincidence. You'd think God had planned it or something.

    • @Sp33gan
      @Sp33gan Před 2 lety +1

      @@FatherJoel It's older than that and has nothing to do with a Judeo-Christian deity. Consider that the celebration is linked to the phases of the moon, which is why it never occurs on the same day each year. Many ancient cultures held similar beliefs as both planting and harvest time were critical to their survival, but the Celts were most definitely prior to the appearance of Judaism. Regardless, the confusion of the holiday is due to the absorption of the Pagan peoples into the Christian faith of the invaders and many remnants of the original festival still remaining. The same can be said of trees, lights/candles, gifts and even Santa for Christmas.

    • @FatherJoel
      @FatherJoel Před 2 lety

      @@Sp33gan Yes, that's right. Passover is based on the moon phases, and Easter is the establishment of the new covenant not in the blood of a lamb, but the blood of Christ, the Lamb of God. The two are inextricably linked, hence the same dates. Many pagan practices and terms were taken up by the early apostles and missionaries and Christianized. Speaks of the teaching of the Catholic faith that grace BUILDS on nature and doesn't destroy it. Many of these cultures had good things going that didn't need discarding, only adaptation. Peace

    • @Sp33gan
      @Sp33gan Před 2 lety +1

      @@FatherJoel Peace, most definitely. Where you're making a mistake, based on your faith, is assuming that the festival is still based upon the followers of Judaism. it is not. In truth, Paganism existed long before the Jewish faith, from which Christianity arose. The Pagans were practicing these celebrations long before they were subjugated by the advancement of the Christian beliefs, pushed into the Celtic lands by the newly converted Romans. But, that said, the Romans had already moved into these areas before being indoctrinated into Christianity. In short, Easter/Ostara had nothing to do with Jesus until the people practicing their original polytheistic religion were forced to adapt to the new one, based upon the belief that only one deity existed. In order to make it easier to subjugate the Pagan culture, the Christians invented their own holidays to place at the same times as the existing holidays. What we now know as Christmas is the same. The character now seen as Santa Claus was originally the king of the Norse gods, Odin. Christmas itself, Yule, was a celebration of mid-Winter, when the days gradually began to grow longer and the knowledge that Spring and the rebirth of the Green was on its way. Multiple cultures across Europe, far earlier than the creation of Judaism, were already celebrating these festivals. Passover is yet another of the Hebrew/Christian holidays placed over top of the existing Pagan rites in order to help put the populace under Christian control. Hence, the timing of the moon cycles which, itself, was almost always portrayed by its own goddess.
      What you believe is right for you and I will never say your beliefs are wrong, but history is something that has been proven time and time again, and Judaism/Christianity came millennia after the other cultures and faiths.
