  • HOW TO: USE UNDERBUTTOCK DRAPE
I gotta be honest, draping was one of the hardest to memorize. I made a mistake of memorizing the names of the drapes vs actually knowing how to use them by order.
    ◽️
My preceptor was calling them other names. It's essentially the same but in lamen terms I should say. So for example, the drape is called SPLIT U DRAPE but she called it PAPER U DRAPE. So the word split and paper threw me off. The doctors also called them by lamen terms so I was just not understanding.
    ◽️
I rearranged my notes and order the drapes by use during the case. I studied how and why they're used like that. So my take is, don't memorize the drape. Understand HOW and WHEN they're used.
    For example:
TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY (varies by doctor)
    3/4 drape top/bottom
towel to hold the leg (temporarily)
    stockinette
    ioban
    coban
    plastic U drape bottom
    paper U drape top/bottom
    lower extremity fenestrated drape
I would order these from bottom to top (extremity drape being on bottom) so that they're ready.
    ◽️
This takes awhile to get used to so don't feel pressured to have this all understood. YOU HAVE TO DO THE CASE to understand it. Follow the markers on the drape. I hope it helps!
    GOODLUCK FUTURE ST!

The sticky is used for hystoscope, it's taped to the gown so no fluid is lost( i usually just use a clamp cause the sticky isn't that sticky lol) the deficit of saline or glycein is very important to calculate. You should cut the nipple and put the suction on before you drape so the nurse dosnt have to do extra work. Makes it easier for everyone.

If you can get your hands on one, you should do a video on how to pass/reload a linear cutter stapler :)

Yes, it is. It's very important .A surgical tech is in surgery and needs to know what is going on.
