5:31 that clip is of a pitcher who is imitating his teammates batting stances. He's and American League pitcher and American League pitchers generally don't get a chance to hit because they have the DH who will hit in the pitcher's spot in the batting lineup.
Basically he's making fun of his teammates' weird batting stances.
Also Different stances don't change or help you hit a certain way, it's really a personal preference and comfortability type of thing. Everyone's stance is generally pretty unique

The stance and just the whole up to bat routine in general is just a comfort thing and for some people, superstition

Howdy Bruv! Baseball games take anywhere from 3 hours and close to 5 hours sometimes to play! When you go to a live game at a stadium, you do many things as a fan. Especially eat awesome, really bad for you, food and many drink beer and booze. It's a chilled out party with your friends and new game time friends that you meet and party with. It is a purposely slow game that you can fill an entire day with entertainment! If you ever get a chance to go see a game live, I would suggest Fenway #1 "Boston Red Sox" and then Yankees Stadium #2 and many others tied for 3rd place including Cardinals, Mets, Dodgers, etc. Cheers!!

6:50 - most players have just one stance. What makes the moment funnier is that the batter was the opposing pitcher, and pitchers are notorious for being completely unable to hit - especially American League pitchers because most of their games use the designated hitter (American League pitchers only bat in interleague / World Series games when played in a National League stadium, so AL starting pitchers probably get fewer than 20 at-bats in an entire 162-game season).

The reason is was so funny that David Ortiz tried to bunt is because he's big, slow and powerful. Players that regularly bunt are small and quick. It was definitely unexpected and the guys on the other team were making fun of him. Power hitters don't usually bunt because they're likely to hit the ball a long way if they get a good pitch to swing at. A lot of players are from the Dominican Republic, so they share that in common, which creates great comradere. You'll notice Adrian Beltre involved in a lot of the joking around. He's played for almost every team in baseball, and has really good relationships with lots of players. He's known as a jokster. At 13:30, the reason you recognize the batter is because he was the pitcher who had his shirt pulled, when the batter ran past him, earlier in this same video. He's been in the league FOREVER, played for many different teams, and is old and slow lol. Pitchers aren't known for being good hitters. In major league baseball, there are two leagues, the American League and the National League. Pitchers who play in the American League don't have to hit. Instead, the team his a designated hitter, who only hits, and doesn't play any position in the field. Only pitchers on National League teams have to also hit.

  • @MST3Killa

Compared to most other major sports, baseball is very chill. There's no time limit to the games and there's 162 of them. So, yeah, plenty of time to have a bit of fun with stuff like this. Besides, when your team is batting and you're in the dugout, there's not a whole lot to do. In other sports, teams will use that kind of time to strategize and such, but in baseball, it's very much a reactionary sport. Most of the 'strategy' involves the pitcher, catcher, and manager, the other players on the field are there to react to hits for the most part...so... not much in the way of strategy involves them except for very specific scenarios, which usually just involves telling them to do X or Y. (Shift right for this batter, move in closer for that batter, watch out for this runner to steal bases, etc.)

Players have only one stance and might make minor tweaks, but they only use one stance at a time. The batter switched up his stance because he was an American League pitcher, where pitchers don’t hit, but he was in a National League park, where pitchers do hit. So because he knew he was probably going to get out anyways, he just decided to have fun.

The guy with the different batting stances: he was an American League pitcher getting a very rare opportunity to bat, because in the AL, there is a designated hitter who basically bats for the pitcher. In the NL, pitchers always bat for themselves. When AL and NL teams meet, they use the rules of whichever park they are in. So since Pittsburgh is an NL park, that meant that the pitcher was going to bat for himself. That guy was being a little goofy, because he’s so inexperienced at hitting he wasn’t really going to try that hard. He was imitating other well known batting stances of his friends. Typically, each batter only uses one batting stance. So Bauer was really just goofing around with that display.

To respond to your talk around the 6:55 area. Essentially your batting "stance" is just a comfort thing to the play. Almost a rhythm you can create to help time a pitch coming in. Essentially the guy was just mimicing batting stances from other players just for the fun/hell of it

  • @mikelewis495
    @mikelewis495 Před 4 lety

7:09 The mannerisms of the batter's stance usually make no difference at all up until they reach the ready position. Once the pitcher starts his delivery, they'll pretty much all come to a very similar stance with their elbows up, the bat behind their head, and their weight back on their back foot. Sometimes they'll hold the bat slightly differently. You've obviously seen the bunt, but even if they're swinging away, they'll sometimes "choke up" which is where they grip the bat a few inches away from the end of it to give themselves a little more control over their swing to make it easier to make contact at the cost of losing a little bit of power. Usually, batters will do this when they're down in the count. But that's not what's going on here. Every player has their own unique style for how they swing the bat around and what they do with their arms and such before they come to the ready position, and they usually do the exact same thing every time. It's just a part of how they get their mind ready for the next pitch. It's a part of what makes baseball unique. So what was happening there was that batter was mimicking other players' stances just to have a little bit of fun with them. What I find interesting was that he was able to do this without being too distracted to be able to make good decisions on whether to swing or not. He took a couple there that looked difficult to lay off of.

Answer your question in the beginning of the video. The team people hate right now would be the Houston Astros because they were caught cheating... But, before they were caught, I would say it would be the New York Yankees. They have the best record in the league and have won the most championships. Every batter has their own stance. It's pretty much just about what makes you comfortable, it doesn't really have anything to do with strategy. Some guys prefer to have their feet wider apart, or hold the batter higher or lower, or sometimes move the bat around. It's all just about what you're comfortable with. Sometimes if i guy has been having trouble hitting the past few games he might tweak his batting stance a little to see if it helps but there's not really anything about a stance that gives you an advantage or anything like that.

*Answers to questions, and general trivia*
    * Most hated team: I'm a baseball fan. It was the Yankees up until about 3 months ago. Now it's the Houston Astros. They cheated their way to a World Series title. You should react to Foolish Baseball's video on the trashcan scandal. (You need over-ear headphones to hear the low tone trashcan bangs, otherwise you will think it's fake).
    * With Yankees, I like the team, but the fans are all terrible people.
    * If a batter runs out of the baseline to avoid a tag, he is out. So you don't have to chase a baserunner into the outfield. What is the baseline, you ask? Nobody knows. It's like the offsides rule in soccer.
    * Even baseball players find baseball boring. So they get a lot of practice gumming cups to other players' heads.
    * Watching baseball can be interesting if you pretend the animals on the fields are chimps. And you try to figure out why these chimps would ever end up building a stadium and playing this ridiculous game. And look at how the chimps interact with each other.
    * Rain things are called ponchos
    * The changing stances guy is Trevor Bauer, at the time an American League pitcher. So he never bats. He's playing in an NL ballpark, so he's getting the extremely rare chance to bat. (Pitchers bat in the NL but not in the AL). He doesn't have his own stance, so he's just imitating his teammates.
    * Trevor Bauer is hilarious. Also look up "Trevor Bauer tantrum" on CZcams if you want a lol
    * They said the standoff was in minute 12, at the beginning
    * "Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire" used to be the outro to every MLB channel video. So it has become a meme. He's a really bad umpire. He was the home plate umpire for Randy Johnson's perfect game, and he admittedly did an excellent job in that game.
    * Colon is a pitcher. He sucks at hitting and running. He carries the bat with him because he never gets a hit, so he doesn't need to drop it. The home run you saw in a previous video was his first career home run. At age 43. Making him the oldest player to hit his first career home run.
    * Players and coaches are mic'd up occasionally. They say some crazy things. Look up "Jomboy savages in the box" on CZcams to see the most famous example.
    * Use Brave browser for adblocking and tracking protection. You don't have to set it up, it just works.
