Thank you for saying what I was already feeling trying to study for the 601. I think I am just going to focus on the 701. The 601 in my opinion was all over the place and I did not understand why so many job roles were being covered for an "entry" certification.

When the text book be available?
I have your 601 course on your website, will i have to purchase the 701 completely separate? Also as someone who wants to roll over into GRC/Risk Management which one would be better to spend my time on?
We recommend the 701 course since it is newer and will provide you with the latest and greatest information. About 25% of the content was changed/updated from 601 to 701.

This depends - If you are over halfway through the 601 study material then it makes sense to stick with 601. However, if you are less than 50% through the 601 material it will make more sense to study the 701 material since this is the most up to date industry standards for Security+

I passed 601, imho 701 looks a lot easier, they removed some really useful info on linux, cmd line utilities and practical security techniques. No idea why
Interesting, I came here after watching Technical Institute of America's video saying the same thing. I've already started learning linux and familiarizing myself with basic functions like cd, .. , ls, mkdir, etc. I now understanding that the command line is just a more intuitive way to interact with the computer rather than just going to Finder on Mac and selecting some folders in downloads for instance... kinda like some drivers obsession with stick shift over automatic lol. Anyway, would you recommend simply studying for the 701 since its easier and learning the linux techniques covered in the 601 after? Looking to buy the CompTIA Security+ Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-701 Study Guide by the way.
I would focus on 701 objectives exclusively, paying extra attention to learning the acronym list, extra knowledge on the basics (linux cmds, port numbers, secure protocols, OSI layers) isn't too important but will help, then do as many practice tests as possible while timing yourself, check out the professor Messer video course if you get stuck. I was studying for Jason Dion's CompTIA SY0-601 on Udemy, and enjoying every bit of it because of the Instructor. Then it suddenly disappeared and i was directed to CompTIA SY0-601 on Udemy taught by Jason Dion and two other Instructors. I did not enjoy the teaching of other two instructors as their instructions were not engaging and tiresome. I wish Jason Dion Courses are taught by him and not shared with any other instructor.
