    Start learning Cybersecurity today! ➡️ www.cybertrainingpro.com/
    One thing that is consistent in Cybersecurity is change. Specifically, certifications in the career field tend to refresh approximately every three years to make sure that exam objectives are still relevant for cybersecurity professionals. Sometimes the exam version refreshes are drastic and sometimes they are merely cosmetic in appearance.
    Join me in this video as we talk about the recent announcement for the Security+ from CompTIA and compare the SY0-601 versus the SY0-701 exam versions. We are going to compare the exam domains and I will discuss which exam version you should take.

      Good luck on your Network+! Just out of curiosity, why are you going to wait? You have a ton of time to knock out the current version before it's retired. The timeline for new materials can vary so I wouldn't really use that as a deciding factor. I found one book that comes out on October 31, 2023 ( amzn.to/409O5mN ) so if you're really set on the new version, that might be a good option to use.

    DoD 8570 was alot clearer about IAT levels and certification requirements for DoD personnel. DoD 8140 is a bit more ambiguous and wordy leaving it to interpretation regarding requirements. Some organizations try to leverage that to their advantage.

    • @JonGoodCyber
      @JonGoodCyber  Před 8 měsíci +2

      The idea behind the DoD 8140 is to align better with job requirements and the actual jobs. From an employee standpoint, it's not really all that different but certainly it can get confusing if you start diving too deep into the materials for it.
      "All of the 8570 certifications did carry over to the 8140 Workforce Qualification and Management Program, and they were aligned to the appropriate DCWF Work Role."
      public.cyber.mil/wid/cwmp/cwmp-faqs/#toggle-id-2

    • @cmatz175
      @cmatz175 Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@JonGoodCyber Thanks for the reply. It used to be easier because the 8570 would clearly say that in order to be IATII compliant one would need a qualifying IATII certificate (Sec+) to be compliant. Now it is more convoluted with the DCWF work roles and a lack of clearcut 'baseline' certifications.

    • @JonGoodCyber
      @JonGoodCyber  Před 8 měsíci +3

      Here is basically a guide for you that still applies if you want to reference the 8570...all jobs essentially require IAT II or higher (IAT I was rarely ever used)...IAM I or higher for lead and manager jobs (IAM II or higher if you oversee people)...and then the specialty areas of the 8570 apply based on the relevant role.

      @JonGoodCyber  Před 8 měsíci +5

      It sounds like you passed though so that's great! For future reference, whenever there's a new exam version to be released, certification vendors will specifically say if it's a clean cutover to the new version of if there's a time period where you can still take the previous version once the new version is officially launched.
      Vendors like CompTIA and Cisco, which label their exams specific versions, really stick to this process and the window is around 6 months. Other vendors like (ISC)2 will instead give a cutover date and don't offer the previous version after that point. The vendors using a cutover date typically give a decent amount of time prior (i.e., 4 to 6 months) so that if you're starting to study the day of the announcement, you'll have enough time.

Certainly there is some overlap as they both are trying to target similar audiences (new to Cybersecurity) but honestly, I have some very strong criticisms of the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. The reason why I'm asking is because you don't want to just sit around studying and not getting experience. I highly encourage you to try and get an internship or entry level job in either IT or Cybersecurity as soon as possible. Learning new material and skills is great, but the quicker you can start to get any direct or related experience, the better.

      @JonGoodCyber  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The requirements for internships are significantly lower than full time and some part time employment. The challenge with internships is going to be than the majority of them typically require you to be a student pursuing a degree, but there are some that do not have that requirement. Apprenticeships are similar to internships and might also be worth looking into, although they are less common in the United States (not sure where you live).

      @JonGoodCyber  Před 8 měsíci +7

      Why are they still using 501 objectives? That's really strange as the exam changed almost 3 years ago but those objectives were released nearly 6 years ago! Anyways, the SY0-701 doesn't even launch until November 2023 but every exam has differences from the previous version. Make sure that you look at the exam objectives for whichever version you are going to attempt to make sure you have covered everything that you need. Personally, I always use the current materials for whichever exam version that I'm going to take as there is too much risk if you don't...but I really don't recommend using two exam versions prior to take the SY0-701 as you are asking for issues.

    • @JonGoodCyber
      @JonGoodCyber  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Although practical exams provide benefits such as performing specific tasks, they cannot determine all indicators of somebody being able to perform a job in technology, IT or Cyber Security. Multiple choice questions aren't a perfect science, but when done correctly, they can expose a candidates inability to use deductive reasoning and analytical thinking to answer questions (not perform a task). Many times this is done with limited information, and is a very real world situation. The career field isn't just about answering questions or performing certain tasks...it requires the ability to do both.
